Inb4 replica.

Theres kmac mini replicas in China bts
They would have different pcb than the real thing I imagine, so if that happens I'd just dispute with ebay/paypal and get my money back.

People bidding $600 on a kustom on eBay without seeing any of the internals. Have fun. Soldering could be a nightmare (it has Blues ffs, doesn't instill confidence) or just plain fake.

people betting on a board with blues... scums of the earth! I might as well jam knives in my ears. It's the same pain I receive from listening to blues.

I know you can switch the switches but god I hate blues.

Just so everyone knows...this is an auction by TheFlyingRaccoon.  This is MY KMAC Mini that I sent him on the promise that he would pay me for it when he had the money. Then he tried to sell it, and said he would send it back to me. Obviously to this day, I haven't received either the KMAC back, or any money for it. :(

I would guess that the price of this board is 650, but prices for this **** vary in the hundreds so I could be off.
Still, this will go way past whatever the price should be.
Maybe I should auction off my rare **** under a different user name on eBay. I'd be rich as ****!

sorry to hear about what's happening... but why in the name of the keyboard overlord would you spend any money at all in advance and send this expensive keyboard to someone from the internet all based on an e-promise? i'm a trusting person and i'm very nice to my friends but when it comes to borrowing money or buy/sell stuffs i don't play around b/c one should not mix business with pleasure and money is business, especially in your case a huge amount. so let the guy from ant simulator game (where his 2 friends of over 10 years drained his kickstarter funds on literally hookers and blow) be a solid indicator that ppl are bastards. golden rule of thumb for selling things - no money no goods. just don't ever make exceptions to this rule. good luck and let's hope there's some karma justice.

It was probably because JD never believed that raccoon would ever do such a thing like running off with someone's valuable keyboard.
For instance, would you ever doubt the cuddly bear that is HoffmanMyster to run off with a clack if I let him borrow one? No, bears don't have any use for key caps, duh.
Because of this trust we place in others expecting not to act egregiously we give them these sorts of privileges that we would not normally give.
Another instance would be the unspoken quid pro quo between friends. If a friend buys lunch for me it is a given that I will return the favour the next time we have lunch. It's like the obligation to help a friend move because you know that one day you'll need their help to move.
The assumption is that if we do something nice for someone, we expect them to honour that privilege and not abuse it.

Okay, so I'll give you all the complete story.

In 2013, TheFlyingRaccoon and I were friends here at GH. We talked often, and he even sent me a sympathy card when SmallFry passed away, since he knew I took that really hard. We were chatting on Skype one day, and he mentioned that he would do anything to get a KMAC Mini, but they weren't really any for sale at the time, and anyway he was a poor high school student, and didn't have the money for one. I told him that I had a kit still unassembled, and that I would be willing to send it to him, with the promise that he would eventually pay me for it, when he could generate the funds. I sent it to him, and he assembled it and used it. Time went by, and I didn't bother him about the money, since he was working with [CTRL]ALT, and I figured he would get the money in time and pay me for it.

Last year, he advertised it for sale. I called him out for it then, and he promised to send it back to me. It was always once thing or another, and he never did sent it. He even offered to send me a free keycap set, which I told him thank you but I didn't need it. Messages were sent back and forth for months, and he kept promising to send it, but never did.

Now he lists it for sale again, this time on eBay. I just this morning sent him an email requesting that he remove the listing and return the keyboard to me. I will update here if he responds.

Then he tried to sell it, and said he would send it back to me. Obviously to this day, I haven't received either the KMAC back, or any money for it. :(

sorry to hear about what's happening... but why in the name of the keyboard overlord would you spend any money at all in advance and send this expensive keyboard to someone from the internet all based on an e-promise? i'm a trusting person and i'm very nice to my friends but when it comes to borrowing money or buy/sell stuffs i don't play around b/c one should not mix business with pleasure and money is business, especially in your case a huge amount. so let the guy from ant simulator game (where his 2 friends of over 10 years drained his kickstarter funds on literally hookers and blow) be a solid indicator that ppl are bastards. golden rule of thumb for selling things - no money no goods. just don't ever make exceptions to this rule. good luck and let's hope there's some karma justice.

Ouch. That stinks.

Even if he can't pay for it, the least he could do is send it back assembled. Dunno why he has to go and sell something he never paid for.

Very few of the proposed "solutions" in this thread are reasonable. The only reasonable thing is what JD has already done: contact Racoon and request that he remove the listing and return the keyboard. This isn't a case of theft, it's a case of someone being an *******.

Also, regardless of this situation, the lesson to be learned isn't "don't ever trust anyone on the Internet," and I'm sure this wasn't the last time, nor will it be the last time, JD goes out on a limb for someone.

Anyone wondering why JD would send a board before receiving payment doesn't know JD, geekhack, or both. He is known to do these sorts of things, since he cares more about the community here than a few hundred bucks (my words, not his). Yeah, there's a chance of getting burned, but there's also a (much higher, IMO) chance of doing a huge favor for someone and helping to build this community into the trusting and friendly community that I perceive it to be.

I was honestly thinking about that when I saw that it would be shipped from Texas. I remember you telling me about the situation. Sorry to hear it. :'(

Wow.

Was TFR aware that it was given with the assumption he'd pay later?

According to JD, yes. Ask JD for more details though.

PM exchange with TheFlyingRaccoon (01 May 2015): "Hey JD! Really sorry about that, I would be happy to send it back to you if necessary. From what I remember, Bunny gave it to me in a trade. I honestly did not realize it was yours or I owed someone for it. I don't have money to pay for it, in fact I really don't have any extra money right now and I was trying to sell it to buy a phone since my old one is dead. Anyways, let me know what you would like me to do, really sorry about that."

Me: "Yeah, man, I would love to have it back, actually. If you want to desolder the switches, since I sent it to you as a bare kit, that is fine, or I can send you replacement switches, or alternatively some cash for them and your assembly. Sorry to hear about your phone. I understand what it's like to be broke with little income.

If you need my address:

[REDACTED]

Thanks for the quick reply!"

TFR: "Do you want me to include a keyset with it? As a thank you gift. I have a few different sets that work with the layout."

Me: "Nah, bro, you don't have to do that. I have plenty of keycaps, and maybe you can sell the extras you have if you need cash. Thank you for the offer, though. I appreciate that."

PM from me (15 May 2015): "Hey man, I was just wondering if you ever had a chance to ship the KMAC Mini, and if so, do you have a tracking number?"

TFR: "Not yet, I need to get a box that will fit and packing materials. Want to be sure it arrives okay!"

Me: "No problem, thanks for the update. :)"

TFR: "Hey sorry for the delay, I'll try to get out the KMAC this weekend."
