Thick bezels, hefty blocks, oversized - this is the ALF X3. The blocky design is reminiscent of the classy and sexy look of the old keyboards from the past.

While I agree the top is slightly too oversized, I also think the render made by KaosJ features a top bezel that is too small. How about a compromise? Something in between the OP renders and KaosJ render for the top bezel?Wow...

I like it! Count me in, but PLEASE tell ALF to not put a RENOVA logo on the board. I like the simple little led circles, it makes it look classy. And someone else said RENOVA is a toilet paper brand!
Completely my opinion of course.

I like this board, including the large bezels. As others mentioned, I’d keep the indicator LEDs as in the renders and skip the logo that’s supposed to replace them. The indicators are part of the charm—there’s already another logo on the left.

when i saw 'retro' inspired.. and saw indicator lights i thought 'yep! perfect!' ------then scroll down and see theyre going to be removed and replaced with a logo.... and thought that it would lose the thing that I thought captured the 'retro' feel most at first glance.
logos *were* a big thing in the old boards.. but so were big banks of indicator lights.

Well thanks. I doubt that would ever happen since they have the sample already which means the design will most likely not change.
I would kinda like even something in the middle between my edit and their prototype, i just feel the current one is a bit too large.
Also agree with some other people who said indicators should stay and not be replaced by the engrave, the indicators on their sample looks good.

3. Will anything else be required separately to make it fully functional? Such as stabilizers?
4. I know the keyboard has bluetooth, but does it also have a USB port? And if so, which type of USB?

1. Correct.
2. Soldered switches.
3. Stabs, switches and keycaps, possibly leds for the indicator top.
4. Yes, unknown port, probably mini usb.
5. 80 yes if they sell out, unknown future buys.

I've been monitoring this thread for awhile, and never actually felt the need to create a account here and participate. That is, until now... because I have a couple things I just wanted to verify before taking a stab at the group buy tomorrow night.
1. Am I correct in assuming that this is still a "kit keyboard," in that no switches or keycaps come with it?
2. If so, does. the PCB have hot swap sockets or will the buyer need to solder their switches?
3. Will anything else be required separately to make it fully functional? Such as stabilizers?
4. I know the keyboard has bluetooth, but does it also have a USB port? And if so, which type of USB?
And finally,
5. With only 40 offered in the Asian market and 40 offered in the western market, are we just looking at a total of 80 boards in existence for the X3 Renova? Is this a one time run or might it be offered again in the future?
From what we know:
1. Correct.
2. Soldered switches.
3. Stabs, switches and keycaps, possibly leds for the indicator top.
4. Yes, unknown port, probably mini usb.
5. 80 yes if they sell out, unknown future buys.

One follow up question..... (and forgive me if this is a newbie-ish question) Would this board require the plate mount style of stabilizer, opposed to the pcb screw in style?

zFrontier shows its old group buy webpages even after group buys have closed. It's likely not a placeholder, and X3 will have its own page.

Yep! Zeal stabs are expensive though.
