This...sounds like a recipe for disaster. Particularly with an unprotected PCB. Messy eaters beware!

Looks very good!

Thank you guys for the input!  :)

I will upload some clips of how the keyboard would sound like when I get the custom PCB and get everything together.

I have also decided not to add any bottom piece or else it might defeat the purpose of the board.  ^-^
And I'm still trying to figure out a solution to protect the PCB.

Go with your original design. Not really sure how the pcb will get damaged in real world use unless youre constantly transporting it. Of course any exposed electronics will be at risk but if the guy wants to make a bottomless board then he should....

Thanks man! That's the way I will be doing the board  :thumb:

I appreciate the kind words man!  :D
I wanted to take difference approach on the design and yet still trying to keep it simple for the look.
I don't know how the sound of the hollow might actually turn out but I will have update on that soon!

How heavy is the unbuilt proto right now?

Any considerations for a full brass one? I like a heavy board.

I will weigh the board soon as I don't have scale with me.

And yes, I was planning to make couple of full brass board if anyone would be interested when the group buy starts but the cost is going to be much higher than the regular aluminum boards though.

Any estimated price after this prototype?

Also, will ISO be supported?

Thanks!

Will it be WKL only?

also, PLEASE get rid of the north facing LEDs.

I will have the estimated price soon. I need just some more time to get all the packaging and PCB prices altogether.

Unfortunately, ISO will not be supported. Sorry :(

Yes, it will be WKL only.

What do you mean by the north facing LEDs? I didn't really get that part.

On the renders, the switches are facing with the LEDs up, not down. This can cause interference with cherry profile caps. If you're not including a PCB you can disregard all of this.

Also, as long as the PCB is completely standard, it might be better to not include a PCB and suggest people buy the h87a instead, as it's part of a larger GB and will be cheaper.

Oh I will definitely keep that in mind. Thanks!

I understand where you are coming from but it is just more convenient to include the PCB in the kit so people don't have to go through troubles buying the PCBs.

I have thought about that but I need that additional weight that brass plate provides. ;D

I see, me personally doesnt really drawn in by brass. But a thicker brass would be nice too!
Also I like the HOLO logo, but the spacing could be a little more between the logo and the edge of the backside.

Yup, it will be a thick brass plate that's for sure! Thanks! :thumb:

The design is pretty much finalized though. :-X

Ah well, its a minor thing tho, don't mind it. But still would be nice if the logo is just slightly smaller so it doesnt sit so much on the edge.

Are there any estimated price? and have you decided the exact thickness for the plate?

I will have the estimated price when I get the next prototype.  :)

Plate thickness is 1.5mm.

Just got the custom carrying case sample for the HOLO keyboard, the case still needs some tweaks though.
The case will come with the HOLO keyboards when the groupbuy starts.

for pcb protection, just add an acrylic to the bottom of the pcb like all the bent steel case. Look up bent steel case if you want to see an example.

Basically use the same mounting holes for the plate and just add spacers in between.

Unfortunately, it only comes with the WKL version, I'm sorry. :(

Have you considered having no logo on the back and moving it to a polycarb/acrylic plate underneath the PCB? The HOLO logo seems a bit showey for my liking... Maybe if it was just smaller, like half the size it is now, I dunno.

The large logo on the back was one of the initial ideas in making the HOLO so I will not be changing it most likely. Sorry about that.

I have got the final CNC sample in dark grey earlier today and every little thing has been fixed up. :)

The final color options are: Dark Grey, Light Grey and Blue Grey. I will have the estimated price for the board soon.

Here is a photo comparison between dark grey and light grey:

Here is a short clip of how it might sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpwqXRa15sM

Quick Setup:
- 2010 Vintage Cherry Blue Switch
- OG Cherry Dyesub PBT
- Brass Plate

But of course it might sound different depending on the type of surface the board is sitting on or using a different type of switch.

I have added the price for the keyboard kit.
Special treatment is applied to each brass plate so it will not turn black or oxidize after being touched by hands.

Price:
  • Keyboard, brass plate, PCB, case - $360
  • Extra PCB - $28
  • Extra brass plate - $55
  • Shipping & PayPal fees are additional
