I'm making a silkscreen printed poster, it looks like this (http://imgur.com/1psWT4o). You can buy this at $36.92 per copy. It's hand printed by me, colour by colour. Please read this post in its entirety before you buy, as there are no refunds/returns.

- ☞ The wonky stem (http://i.imgur.com/mG8kpG5.png) has been fixed following feedback from the Interest Check thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71971.msg1766079#msg1766079)
- ☞ If you are checking the interest check thread (check check check!), ignore the colours in the digital mock ups. The colour of the print you get will vary slightly but will be closest to the test print. The reason being the colours are mixed manually when I print, to achieve that transparent overprinting effect.
- ☞ The colours won't be 100% accurate (hand-mixed paint), the artwork will have slight misregistration (compare prints in this image (http://i.imgur.com/d0DecaI.jpg)) as each colour is printed individually in my bedroom. I am not a professional printer.

Specs!
- ☞ The print will be 28cm wide x 32cm tall
- ☞ Printed on 300gsm textured paper called Aquarell DA CA (rightmost in image) (http://i.imgur.com/d0DecaI.jpg), found in a small Singapore paper shop (http://www.fancypapers.com/)
- ☞ Limited edition of 50, signed and numbered by artist (i.e. me)
Money and shipping matters!
- ☞ $36.92 per print including worldwide shipping via normal airmail. $1.92 out of the $36.92 is to cover Paypal fees.
- ☞ This is how long roughly delivery will take (http://www.singpost.com/send-documentparcel/transit-time.html), from the time I send it. For example US/Canada will take 8-10 working days.
- ☞ Order in 2 steps.

- ☞ How did you arrive at $35 per piece? What's the cost associated with making this happen?
Going to keep this super transparent, here's the math:
My upfront fixed cost will be test print (I'll first make 4 small screens to try and print with, to see if the overprinting effect works and to get the colours right). Second fixed cost is the actual set of 4 screens and ink/paper costs. This works out to be around $376 (500SGD).
With each piece selling at $35, I will have to sell 16 pieces before I break even.
At 50 pieces I will make $697 profit, but I consider this labour cost really, and this is assuming best outcome of 50 pcs all sold out.
So I'd hedge a bit and say 20 pcs is my break even point. - ☞ How long will this take from ordering to receiving print?
- 2 weeks to meet MOQ
- 3 weeks for production
- 1-2 weeks for shipping
If this goes through, please expect your print in 7 weeks from now. Earlier if MOQ is hit in less than 2 weeks of course.

I prefer to show the print with somewhat accurate colours than showing them the corrected drawing but with digital colours which will be totally off from the actual printed colours when they receive the artwork, as that undoubtedly will lead to people being unsatisfied with their purchase :)

We're currently at 15 (one person requested later payment but to place order) orders out of 20 and I was looking through the accounting for this GB, I think we're at the point where I won't be losing much money (16 was my calculated break even). So I think I'm just going to proceed with finalising the artwork, ordering the screens and printing in the coming weeks. Hopefully as I post work in progress pics, more people will be attracted to buy :thumb:
This might be too early to say, but things I learned include 1) having a print that has less colours to reduce production cost thus having lower break even numbers and 2) group buys are hard!
Thanks for everyone's support thus far including Halv's undying optimism :) By the way shoutout goes to him (him?) for offering to buy enough pieces so we reach MOQ. This community is nuts!

My phrasing derped. Those were meant to be two different suggestions...
1) With a mat, so you get a better visual margin.
2) An example of an IKEA frame that would work for the print alone is (link).

Payment - yes, I meant to have you guys send me money if you'd like to place an order and I'll confirm here that I receive payments and addresses. The original idea was so that I have money to go ahead and make the production run screens and to buy the paper/ink as well. However a couple of people have PMed me and posted here that they would like to buy at a later date. Since I've confirmed that I'll go ahead and produce these, it's not as urgent for you to send payment -- i.e. if you're more comfortable paying when you see photos of these in production, etc.
Shipping - yes, I will be shipping these in a poster tube.
MOQ - I think I'm about OK in terms of cash upfront to order the production stuff. Am currently cleaning up the Illustrator artwork before placing order for the screens as each screen is about $60 or so. (there are four colours = four screens to make).
Of course, the more buyers the better, otherwise I'll be stuck with 30+ A3-sized posters :D

I also had to get the Speedball acrylic extender base to mix down the colours so they are semi transparent
So when you print a colour on top of another colour they have that "acetate/transparency" effect (i.e. when you print red on blue, the overlapping area looks purple)

By the way, an update on shipping. I have packed the first batch of these prints to be shipped out and just went to a post office near my house. They do not sell mailing tubes :( So I'll have to wait till Saturday to visit a bigger post office branch in town where they do sell mailing tubes. I expect to pack the rest of the orders and ship all orders by Saturday 15 August.

You might find it a bit hard to pick the print out of the shipping tube as the art is printed on really heavy stock (330gsm). The best way to get your print out without damaging it is to take a ruler and poke it out from the side. Both caps on the shipping tube can be removed, so just do that and push the art out gently with a ruler. If anything arrives damaged and such, please get in touch via PM or email too.

Frame shops are always very expensive compared to buying a stock frame from IKEA or a similar store, so be prepared for that if you decide to look into it. I've only had one other item framed, and I'm kind of reserving it for the more special prints I have.
But I'd definitely recommend at least stopping by a frame shop! In my experience they are super helpful and will work with you to design something that looks good. I haven't quite developed the best eye for this stuff yet, so matching colors and frames is rather daunting. :P
Of course, all that said, a stock frame is still great! In the end you may not feel that the added cost of a custom frame is worth it.
Oh and there will definitely be pictures! ;D

That works too (IKEA) as long as the frame is bigger than the print! I think you can get the frame mat made to size so it holds the artwork in your frame nicely.

I don't have good pictures of the print yet so hoping someone who receive theirs can take a nice picture. I have shipped a copy to a photographer friend but they'll take time to capture a proper photo as they're doing me a favour with it.

I just wouldn't go with any clashing or distracting colors. Purple works with all the print colors just fine. That blue is okay, too. I would NOT do red as that would distract from the piece.

I'd say grey or black or white if you want to just 'frame' this a little visually, as the colours on this print are a bit all over the place as it is. Maybe a wooden/natural colour would work too? Like greyish brown. The reason is Red, Green, Brown are all brown (red + green = brown) component colours, and the blue isn't the type that will clash with brown?
I guess I can let the cat out the bag now. I got a special gift for Des from hydro a while ago and he snuck a damn test print in there. It has been on my wall temporarily until I find a frame using the "no-hole-tack" method (as pictured... learned this in printmaking class to display your stuff even when still a bit damp and so you don't ruin the art putting holes in it).
I love it over my monitor. But my HHKB wants to fight it.

Same as you. I let it sit rolled outside tube for a day to relax fibers. Then I put paperweights on corners.

If you're in the mood for some fast casual korean food try out Bibibop. There are a few locations, the closest one for you is probably going to be on West Henderson.
If you want to try a lot of different types of food you should checkout North Market downtown near the Arena District. People absolutely LOVE Hot Chicken Takeover-- it usually sells out at around 3 PM each day. Be warned though, "hot" is pretty hot and "holy" is so hot that I never wanted to try that again. Be sure to check out Taste of Belgium down there too! Great Belgian waffles!
Finally, El Arepazo is pretty great too. Great latin food, great atmosphere. Let me know if you need anything else!

I would consider doing more prints but unlike these ones which are silk screened (in 4 colours no less), I would choose something much easier on myself like professional giclee printing or even 1 colour silkscreen...
I would definitely buy a single color print! :thumb:
Or a series of single color prints in cyan, magenta, yellow, black would be even better. :-*
