Title: [Question]SMD Leds
Post by: Rapsky on Tue, 25 July 2017, 07:20:30
So I am currently trying to solder SMD Leds on my RS78 and ZZ96 my question is what kind of SMD Leds should I buy? and do those boards support SMD leds?

I searched Aliexpress and Amazon but there are like number of stuff on the side of the SMD leds and makes my head hurt.

Can anyone help me :)

No idea about the RS78 but the ZZ96 definetely supports both in-switch LEDs and underglow ones. In-switch LEDs are through hole while underglow ones look sk6812 to me but seek further confirmation.

There are a couple types of SMD leds, RGB ones (that are presinstalled in both the PCB's that you mentioned) and there are single color "1210" LED's (like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/100PCS-1210-3528-Purple-UV-Light-PLCC-2-SMD-SMT-LED-Diodes-Ultra-violet-USA-/121733488676). THe PCB's you mentioned technically dont support 1210 LED's..... BUT...... you can use the 1210 LEDS on the in switch LED holes, because the 1210 led is just wide enough to bridge the gap.

in this pic you can see where i have 1210 LEDS installed on the pads that were provided by the PCB but you can see directly below the LEDS is the in switch led holes that are the same distance... you basically just solder the 1210's to the thru holes

I see a lot of 3528 and 5050 SMD Purples and such are they all ok to use or do i need a specific ones so it would light up properly? I want to give them a top glow also but not sure which one i should get since there are a bunch of numbered **** SMD LEDs
