Hmm...my computer was a bit reluctant to take part in a porn shoot starring itself, but it happened anyways.

Another of my toys....
This is an 8in cube, same size as the Mac G4 Cube it was modeled on (it was cheaper than buying a nice G4 Cube and gutting it).

The case is hand made from Oak, aluminum, and Lexan. The lights go from off to bright by dials in back. Under typical load it runs using only 16-25 watts of power and you have to put your ear to case in order to hear it. Many wireless N routers today use as much power.

Everything inside was cherry picked to create an ultra low power file server but still be capable of transferring at over 110MB over gigabit, double the rate most sub $500 NAS boxes can do. Inside is a single core AMD Sempron, Zotac ITX board, 2gb ram, low power 2TB drive, a single 140mm fan, micro power supply, and a laptop power brick. While it's a pretty tight fit (the power brick actually straddles the heat pipes of the cpu heatsink), no external power brick is used, it's totally self contained (unlike most boxes like it).

That thing is a beast and a back breaker(!), any idea on what it weighs?

My last big watercooled cube was 120 pounds wet (thankfully it had wheels and someone I could bribe to help move it). Biog systems look great, but I much prefer my little ITX and MATX boxes when it comes time to move them.

i meant to weigh it when it was final and i never did, my guess is over 60lbs, im using an ghetto ikea table to display it/work on it and the table is actually bowing/curviing slightly from the weight. Im going to try to find a nice shorter/smaller table to put it on now that i am done with it, hopefully i can find a way to transport it from one table to another

i mean its nice playing bf3 all settings up on 60fps :) in fact any game i own gets at least 60fps (or locked at 60fps) but right now there is nothing i do right now that needs this much power, i may do some video editing some day but gaming really only thing.

The thing is though that i built this to last, about 5 years ago i built a system with a Q6600, raid 0 array, and cards in crossfire and such, it was expensive then but that system lasted me 5 years (i did upgrade graphics cards though), and if i really needed it to it could have lasted another few months though games had to be on low to medium sometimes. I'm hoping this system will for the most part last me years; i can see myself getting new graphics cards in 1.5-2 years but overall i'm crossing my fingers for over 3 years this will last. we shall see...

also i did it out of just really wanting to build it, i saved up most of the money for it, i feel i am happier now that its built.

Honestly you could play BF3 on max settings at a third of that power. Unless you are doing some serious multiple 3D renderings it's just a magnificent strap-on techno-c*$k. It should last you at least 3 years though. And yes, it's very nice.

Glod, that rig definitely deserves some bragging rights.

But why do you need that array if it's just for gaming? Quadfire for gaming is just hilarious. It's really just for benching, or if you use them as independent GPU's for distrubuted computing projects or hardware accelerated stuff.

I would have huge issues using your rig on a daily basis. I have no idea how expensive energy is in usa but we pay 0,25 euros per kw.

yes, three 1920x1080 monitors in eyefinity, probably should have mentioned that! sorry, it does consume extra computing power

basically what happened is i had 2 6950s from my q6600 system that i had for a little over a year. they had heatkiller waterblocks that you couldnt buy anymore as of this month. I was scanning ebay and found 2 of the same cards with the same heatkiller waterblocks for a decent price so i was like f-it ill do 4 way crossfire. I wouldnt suggest anyone do 4 way crossfire from scratch, its silly.

meep

actually it doesn't max out the power all the time, only when im using the full power of it, non-graphics card activities like browsing web it consumes about 275 watts according to my "Kill a watt" meter i have on it. thats not too bad for its size and when im just playing normal games i didn't see it go over 700watts

Thanks man. I'm really fond of the 800D. Its cable management is perfect, it looks great, and it actually does a great job of air cooling despite what a lot of people say.

Your rig is an absolute beast. If you looked up extreme in the dictionary there'd probably be a picture of your rig right next to it. I'm considering a custom WC loop myself, but I'm not sure I can justify the costs. It's something I'd really like to try.

Intel processors and Radeon GPU's are more efficient than the alternatives and as mentioned, they power down when not in use (another place Intel really shines).

Companies tell you a max rating because they have to, but unless you are using something specifically designed to stress it, odds are you will never use more than even 80%. Under normal use, it's far, far less.

My tower alone should be capable of using nearly 500 watts, however, I have never seen the entire system break 370, even when using a benchmark tool. That's because even a benchmark doesn't cause everything installed to go to peak performance all at once. Most of the time, my entire system runs on less than 160 watts, even while gaming I only use somewhere around 230 watts.

And that ^ is a super clean Corsair.

Yeah, but is that with speakers and monitor or just the tower?

My two monitors use 40 watts alone, plus I have 5.1 surround, and 2 usb hubs connected.
My tower by itself is closer to 70 when just browsing.

On the other hand, I also don't have a TV, game system, or stereo running or even paid for, nor do I pay for cable tv.
You have to take everything into consideration.

Even then, how much cheaper is it really?  Rough cost estimate (works for most in the US)...
100 watts running 24/7/365, is about $100 a year. Considering computers don't run 24/7 (sleep mode is far far less) and then broken down into monthly bills, I figure it costs me about $5 a month in electricity, maybe a little more.  If I want to cut that in half, I can, but what would it cost me, and how long would it take to recoup my costs to do it? Spending $100 just to save a dollar per month isn't a wise investment.

Fairly certain Crysis 1 at max settings will require more power than Crysis 3. If going by the series is any indication; the first one was more of a tech-demo/simulator and the second was more of a game. I think they will continue that formula with the third one as well, no matter how much toad tessellation they can fit in there.

It's less than 50 W in idle with LCDs turned off, but PC+LCDs+router are still under 100 W.

It's less than 50 W in idle with LCDs turned off, but PC+LCDs+router are still under 100 W.
I would be interesting in seeing what your system has in it if it's only using 50 watts at idle, supports dual monitors and is capable of serious gaming.

My system is actually quite efficient for a gaming system as there is only so much you can do on a high power gaming system to save power.

It is not too bad, I only use it for BF3, and luckily I am not the raging type ;D

It is an IKEA cabinet, not actually designed to the be wall mounted (it has feet), but it is still floating after 2 years.

I use it purely as a gaming station. And that PC acts as a HTPC too

New machine for a new job (paid for by company). This one's another Corsair poster child:

Memory:

Testing the build. As awesome as the cable management for the 600T is, mine's nowhere near as clean as Photekq's:

Installing Windows 8:

2 out of 3 U3011's set up (3 won't fit on my desk, need to pick up a pair of Ergotron MXs):

(Yes, I know my desk is filthy).

Specs:
Corsair 600T White Edition Case
ASRock x79 Extreme 6 Motherboard
Core i7 3970x Extreme Edition (running stock, it's a work machine)
64 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
Zalman 9900 Max CPU cooler
Corsair Neutron 240gb SSD
Corsair HX850 PSU
EVGA GTX 660ti and GTX 560ti video cards (the 560 is mine, not going to be gaming on this thing).

I'll try to get a decent shot of the internals here in a bit.

PS: The name of my new employer is in one of those pics.

Very nice build, I have a very similar setup which I'll post pics of after I'm done sleeving. My only issue with that case is when the computer produces some heat, the case will start to creak randomly I can only assume its from the plastic expanding.

Haha no sorry. I had access to the school studio so I decided to shoot it there. However it could be achieved with a ghetto lighting set-up.
