Most people use the forum standard, which has a dark grey background. It's best not to use black lettering. ;)

It would be great to get links to the layouts through "keyboard layout editor"

the picture lacks the screw holes, do they have holes for all 6 60% case screws?

Yes, it does have screw holes for the standard 60% case.

Pardon my ignorance, but what stabilizers are supported? Plate? PCB? or Plate/PCB?
Title: Re: [GB] ISO & ANSI 60% mountplates

Everything that is officially supported by the SwillKB's tool.
Everything should be supported, but at least plate Cherry and plate Costar. I test when i get the samples.

:)

Those holes will support Costar, plate mount Cherry, and PCB mount Cherry.

What are the economics behind this gb? From what I see is these are exactly the same prices can be obtained for example on lasermaster.co.uk...

Plus, sorry again... but you are trying to sell an untested object?????

Okay. First of, this GB might not be economically suitable for everyone, but for the majority. If you can get it cheaper another place, do it! Also, the prices may be lower than they are currently, i just don't want to set them to low before we start.

I AM NOT selling a untested product, and i would never do it, therefore, i have ordered samples so i can test everything before selling.

My product is tested and has gone through surface treatment to make it reliable and good looking.

Something arduino ish that lets me run colemak and spacefn.   I  was hoping the poker 3 was going to be fully programmable but no such luck.

I know there are some Chinese gh60 early revision pcb's floating around but I'm not sure what the quality is like.   I may end up hand wiring if nothing shows up.

Sounds cool! I personally still use hand wiring because there are almost no reasonable priced, easy to get PCBs for me.

I bought a GH60 Satan edition from taobao, and while I haven't built it up yet, it seems pretty good. Some people were complaining that they can't get it programmed correctly, though.

The naming of that plate is a little ehh... controversial...

I saw it to. Do you think the programming is easy to use, or more complicated?

Pok3r should have Colemak via DIP switches.

I can recommend the AMJ60 Pro (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=42204599599) which adds some features: resettable fuse for over-current protection, pins for a bluetooth module (UART), mount for SMT LEDs on the back (with resitors presoldered) and small improvements with the PCB itself.

It runs fine with TMK. The only drawback is basically non-existent documentation, even in Chinese I could only find one howto.

There's also the Satan PCB.

Yes, I asked in that thread "I just ordered one from taobao seller loveq. Maybe someone could get in contact with him? He sells Gaterons, GH60 Satan, and stabilizers through taobao, but I'd rather deal with him directly without a taobao agent, if at all possible."

If someone could do a mini GB from him for PCBs, switches, stabilizers...I think it would be pretty popular.

That sounds like a lot of work, but in the theory, it should work. I am not sure myself though.

If you are feeling overly motivated a 40% plate would be pretty interesting.

There seems to be a shortage of 40% case shells but a jd40 type layout frame that matched screw holes with the planck case might be a winner.

I've been waiting for another shot at the jd40 for a while but it hasn't been available for a while.
I'm pretty sure a jd40 layout with spacefn could replace my poker as my keyboard for my bag back and forth from work.

I keep hoping to see the textblade come out as a success but the delays in getting to production and the associated delays in software development seem to leave them a long way from delivering the board with usable pc/linux layouts.

40% keyboards are quite interesting, yes. If I run a new GB I might add some options and do a MOQ.

It isn't started yet. I may get the plates next week, validate a few days an then open orders if everything is okay. I will have orders open as long as I am getting a significant amount of orders.

I wish you good luck and I hope that you will be able to buy :)

Also planning to add some kind of lucky "1 random of the 10 first plates will recieve it with premounted Gateron blacks" or something. What do you think of that?

Just a little note: It looks like there's a little bug with the combined stab cutout in swill's tool:

You probably have to update the plate files.

Which ever coating make it easier to powder coat the plate im for that. Also will the corners be rounded? would be nice to have a flush fit on a pok3r case.

I will see how it fits in the Pok3r case and decide if I want to round the corners.

I think sandblasted is the easiest to powder coat.

Still validating, the plate may actually be compatible with Alps(not Alps stabs). Continuing my testing, I will update you.

Sandblasted is the most popular opinion right now :)

I am soon finished testing. Something i didn't think about is that you pretty much need a PCB to mount it into a case if i am not mistaken. Anyways, there are many options, and that is what i am aiming for with these plates. I really want to open the orders now, but i want to be 100% sure before i start. Waiting for the Cherry stabs that should arrive next week, then i will open orders.

The first 50 plates purchased will have a chance to win a set of Gateron Blacks included :)

Fit [ ✔ by me, Cherry switches are a little lose, you may want to glue. Kailh and Gaterons fits perfectly. Combatible with ALPS(not Alps stabs)]

Do the cherry switches pop out of the plate when you pull a keycap?

In most cases, yes :-/

There are some exceptions. They will only pull out of the plate if you really force it on a really short period of time. Gaterons and Kailhs are stuck in the plate.

Yeah. May need to glue for the Gaterons aswell. I have some really thight keycaps though. There is no big deal in terms of what could go wrong during tthe testing, and not something i am particularly concerned about.

EDIT: The fit is something you sacrifice if you want "notches". Description of the mount hole from Deskthority  (http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/how-to-design-a-plate-mount-for-cherry-mx-t7992.html) "Allows the switch to be opened without desoldering/removing from the plate. The switch's LED slot must be facing up or down."

It is not "that" lose. With most keycaps, it won't even get out of the plate, but with some, it will. I am not an expert on gluing switches, but probably hot glue as you can remove it later.

Going to hopefully remember to order an ANSI plate once I get home, unfortunately I'm unable to access google docs at work.  :'(

You can order by PMing me :)

Just ordered mine.  :)

Is it possible to fix this problem by modifying the size? Did you measure the holes?

Fit [ ✔ by me, Cherry and Gaterons switches are a little lose, you may want to glue if you have thight keycaps and you want to remove them often. Kailh fits thightly. ALPS switches fits, but not thightly. MORE]

Unfortunately, if i try to fix this now, i will eventually end up making one of the switches not fit. Sorry about that, but there is really little we can do. It is one of the drawbacks if you want switch top removal, Alps combability and fit for Gateron, Cherry and Kailhs at the same time.

For those who are ordering both? Is there a specific reason?
I'm getting both because I own keycaps for both layouts and I'm eager to try the ANSI as I've only used ISO (IT) so far.
I could say, it's for sake of testing.

Great point, but as of this point, I cannot do such a major change to the design, but I will bring it with me for further reference.

Ordered 2 plates. One ANSI, one ISO.

Awesome GB.  :D

Yeah I usually use UK ISO but I want to get a bit more into ANSI, though they moderately cheap so why not both?  :thumb:

Updated the OP to make it clearer.
Today i have filled out custom forms so everything should be ready when the plates arrive. I have also all the packing material ready. This is to minimize the time for you.

Now, what i want you to do, is to tell your friends to place their order so we can tip that 50 mark! Only 10 plates more.

So Gaterons fit tightly? I'm hesitant to put in an order, I don't want to have to glue them or anything...

As you see under "features" they are kind of lose. They won't come of by themselves, but if you drag of a keycap, they may come of.

So I guess I missed this. These allow for spring and stem swaps without desoldering right? They will work with plate mount switches, a la Poker II. If so Im interested if there are any left.

That is the plan, and from my testing, it is possible yes.

The form didn't let me proceed until I specified "0" as the number of ANSI plates, probably that's what happened to loki993.

I have never tried that PCB, but i don't see any reason for it to not work if the PCB has standard mounting holes. I am not 100% sure though.

That was the last plate available. If you really want one, i will sell some leftovers for a higher price later, so don't lose your hope entirely.

As i mentioned in my last update, the supplier tells me that the manufacturing is soon ready. They will send over some pictures that i can show you. I asked them to take an extra quality control for you. The sandblasting looks sick.

I hope to get them sent to me next week and that they might arrive the week after that. I am trying my absolutely best to get it quick to you.

For the shipments: Everything will be send with A-priority mail as letters. Tracking may not be available(pretty rare to have tracking for shipments international in Norway)

Here is estimated shipping time(from my experience):
Sweden, Finland: 2 days
Norway: 1 day
EU: 4 days
UK: 3-4 days
USA: 1 week, maybe more
Other countries: around 2 weeks
These shipping times aren't accurate.

These will be marked at 9$ value each. "Steel plate" will be the description. Weight, around 100 gram. If this will become a problem for you, please PM me immediately. They will be packed in bubble wrap and a folded C4 letter. Higher quantities will have a plastic post bag around instead of a letter for more reliability because of the added weight.

Almost everyone has payed their invoice. If there still are some people that hasn't paid, please pay ASAP or send me a message, or i will give your place to someone else.

As you may see, i am aiming for an effective group buy and i am working hard on getting everything to work out. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks to everyone who has paid and helped the group buy out :)

- LeandreN  :D

Yes, it will take some time, but i ship with A- priority shipment and i posted some rough estimates in my update over. It should arrive worlwide within 2 weeks, but countries like Australia and New Zealand may be longer. I will update when i know more.

Yeah the edit.. I'm pretty sure he was referring to the order of shipments with regards to the list of people who had bought the plates. Seeing the gr8 samples he wants it first, real bad.

Edit: I'm not much around here and his post count seems like mine.. Newbies, so at least I don't even know you were doing sth with SPRiT (though I've seen his thread/boards).

I was going to ask the same thing but now I have a better question - WHY? :))  That layout looks crazy, but I guess you have a plan...

Plates are looking good, I'll almost certainly be in on a later run when they support a non standard layout :)

Now I regret not having joined in the first place.
I'd be happy about a plate, if there are people who changed their mind or don't pay.
Earlier requesters come first, of course.

Also anything new about PCB printing? You planning on starting GB for plates combined with PCBs?

Unforunately there doesn't seem to be any places left. I might sell some later though, if i have some to spare.

Now I regret not having joined in the first place.
I'd be happy about a plate
I bought two ANSI and I can give one if LeandreN is ok with that (meaning refund me and sell it to you).

Would be really cool! But I could wait for the next drop too!
I've got several other projects running, that could use my time...
Either way I'll wait till tomorrow to fill out the order form, just in case you change your mind. (If that's not too late.)

How about a 60% design with additional place for switches, that would allow the replacement of a fullsize space with a smaller one? That would be something new. (well, more or less)
So people would have more options on how to use the plate. Same with a design that allows ISO and ANSI in one plate. (Ducky got plates like that for example)
More
Left - cut outs in the plate; Right - mounted switches + caps

Needs more stabs for the short spacebar but not a bad idea :)  Can you buy 4u(?) spacebars to fit it though?

If you could discuss this in my IC for the second run, it would be nice.
Want to keep this thread nice and clean :)

EDIT: i mean, keep the suggestions for round 2 in my IC thread until round 2 is started. Plates arrival can be posted here :)

Hope it wasn't to badly bent. Shouldn't harm it in any way by bending it back :) I suggest running it 10 seconds in cold water and drying with a towel! It will look awesome afterwards. Any way, good luck with your build. Let me know how it goes!

On the topic of PCB, is there any "Ready to Built" PCB available that works with this plate? I want to handwire one plate but would like a pcb for the other one (just to try different things).

I don't know, but it should work with any 60% PCB from SPRiT or Winkeyless :)

I've also received the plate (probably last saturday, but it was delivered at the office).

Protip: try to keep tape off the plate, it took a lot of scrubbing and isopropyl to get it right (because it stains like hell upon drying, had to clean it like 5/6 times before it was almost even):

(http://i.imgur.com/KyCbEJkl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/KyCbEJk)

And the backside, which I haven't scrubbed as thoroughly as the front:

Aside from the tape on the plate (logistical issue, **** happens), it seems like a good plate. Its not bent either, which I feared a bit. Overall, I would buy one again/recommend you if you would start another GB.

Received my two ISO plates a few days ago.

Both plates look good, a minor bend but there was no problem bending it back.
Only thing i'm wondering about is why did you decide to tape both plates together? For one the tape is awful to get off and then all of the glue is left on the plate itself.
You can see on the image how the tape is on the plate, plus the glue left on the left side of the plate after i removed some of it.

Other than that, both plates look good and the switches fit well, but I'm not looking forward to cleaning the glue residue off the plates....

I will send you one ISO as compensation. (The last ones I have). I knew something had to go wrong.

The reason I taped them together was that I didn't want them to scratch with the other plate.

Would really appreciate it, means I don't need to rush with cleaning and can spend my time getting every nook and cranny making sure it's properly done :).

The thought behind it is good and I understand the reasoning, but next time get some better quality tape that can be removed more easily.
Electrical or painters tape would probably be good bets, putting some cardboard between the plates would alleviate the issue as well.

Guess you already have my info, or do you want me to message you?

Cherrys should fit. I have the exact plate and I am writing this on a Cherry stab keyboard.

How do they not fit? They fit tight, but you should be able to press them in by hand...

Let me know how it goes. You can try laying something really heavy on it, and have it there over the night. Sorry about issues like this, the only thing I could do, is to invest money in packaging material, which I may end up doing for my next GB.

What alloy were these again? I wonder if they could be heat treated to make them less prone to bending.

Probably not worth the cost, though.

Don't worry about it, I have a feeling it was my numpty delivery man squeezing it into out postbox. Mine will be powder coated at a later date so any tape issues or slight bending can be sorted by me.

Got mine, slight vertical bend (no problem) but the horizontal one is a *****, hopefully when screwed down it'll fit ok
Let me know how it goes. You can try laying something really heavy on it, and have it there over the night. Sorry about issues like this, the only thing I could do, is to invest money in packaging material, which I may end up doing for my next GB.

:)

Don't worry about it, I have a feeling it was my numpty delivery man squeezing it into out postbox. Mine will be powder coated at a later date so any tape issues or slight bending can be sorted by me.
Great :)
Also, you did only buy one plate, did it have any tape issues?

Only on the very end, a little bit again its no problem for me as its getting painted. :)

I can send you an extra ISO if you want. Sorry for the residue that was entirely my fault.

The Cherry stabs fit somewhat tightly for me, but if they're loose, I would suggest gluing them in. If you think there could be improvements, contact SwillKB. He is the man behind the design tool used for this plates.

I will probably glue my own, as I will never remove them. If you use a heat glue, you can remove it later if needed.

NO! Do not send me a new plate. Its only glue, it comes off. Actually, i dont think you should offer people replacements since they are not broken. No one expects that of you. Just keep on with the awesomely smooth gb :)

Are you thinking Phantom/Teensy or just a replacement plate so you have notches on QFR/Filco? I'm in the same boat myself. Been thinking of putting Phantom in my QFR-I, off-center caps lock and split right shift (if possible).

Here's some info from another thread:
I had to cut a mini usb cable and solder the ends to the QFR USB board. So the mini usb cable connects to the teensy and the exposed wires are just soldered onto the QFR board. Wasn't too hard to do really and there's plenty of room in the case for everything.

I did notice one small problem with using a Phantom in a QFR case after after about 2 weeks of use. The plate and PCB do move slightly in the case if you travel with the keyboard or hit it hard on your desk. It's a pretty stiff move so it doesn't really bother me too much. I haven't found a good way to screw it to the case in a way where it won't do that. I think the problem is due to the fact that my stainless steel mounting plate is flat and the QFR requires curved edges. If you had the right plate or managed to find a way to use the QFR stock plate you probably wouldn't have a problem. Again, not really an issue that I care about... but it might bug some.

The dark spots are from where I used the scruffy pad of the sponge.  You could probably avoid the same results if you just use the soft side.  It doesn't really matter for me though, I'll be painting my plate as well.

I do have some issues with my cherry stabilizers not sittning thightly. I can easily dislodge them. Anyone else?

These are plate mounted stabilizers you are using, correct? Do they dislodge from the "top" part of the stabilizer hole? If so, that has to do with the design of the hole. That notch on the hole is for Costar stabilizer compatibility, but it's not present in the Cherry-only stabilizer hole design. It prevents the Cherry plate mount stabilizers from clipping onto the plate as they should, and therefore the stabilizers come out easily. It's a design compromise, for inclusion of Costar compatibility.

Looks like its more bent than "a little uneven" I am sure you can get it 85% flat with your hands and just lay it under a heavy book or something over the night to get it straight. Sorry about the issue.

Works well, it comes with a basic firmware already so it's ready to go. The only thing I've noticed is that the Cherry spacebar stabilizer gets easily stuck between PCB and place, I'm taking it out and getting a Costar stab for that. The 2u Cherry stabilizers work flawlessly.

Yes, that's the place. I got the older model with only the controller parts pre-soldered. They are on sale, since they came out with a new version with more RGB LED's on the bottom of the board.

Shipping is high though.

Sprit may also still have some of his PCB's available. They are very similar to the B.face. No RGB LED's, but all the diodes and resistors are pre-soldered.

I got too excited and didn't take any pictures before fitting everything together, but I'll post pictures of the one in progress when I get home! It took a tiny bit of fiddling to get them on around the stabilizers, but that was the only thing I noticed, other than that these are absolutely beautiful (and heavy). Thanks so much LeandreN!

The trick to unbending Metal is to take the time to understand how it is bent and then apply a balanced opposite force.

If you bend it randomly it gets worse

Bend it back little by little. Lay it on a table or a flooring tile between attempts to check how it goes.

The tape residue should go away with warm water + soap + a good rub with a toothbrush.

I only can fix around 90%, can't fix it perfect. But I think it can work well.

Wow, great job on that!

I just populated mine with vintage MX clears. Potato shot attached.
[attach=1]
The spacebar slot was cut by hand because I want to split the 6.25 spacebar into 5 stab-less keys (Space, Fn and TrackPoint buttons).

Switch fit in the rest of the plate is secure, but feels a bit wobbly. The only switch that doesn't wobble at all is one who had a 2-pin LED header fitted inside so it's a bit thicker.

I'd try a 0.1mm thicker plate next time if possible.

That's unfortunate, I have definetily shipped it.

I am afraid I can't do anything about the "lost in shipping" part, but I can maybe give you a compensation. I have no extra plates. If you don't want an ISO.

Please tell me, did you plan on handwriting or PCB. I have a PCB plate coming(could work with hand wiring with glue). A couple of weeks.

Unfortunately no, was needing an ANSI plate. I checked with the post office again and no luck. Didn't really have any plans for the plate yet (just gathering parts) so at the time there was no preference for PCB or handwired plate.

If you pay the shipping, I can send you one of the new anodized ones. It's a PCB plate. Sorry, but that package is probably lost.

That would be amazing, I know it's no fault of yours and more than likely an issue with the postal system here. I know you're going to be polling for colors but I'd love to see a purple one!
