Title: [IC] CU-Europe || UPDATE #15 - PRICE UPDATED (02/11/2017)
Post by: CAPS UNLOCKED on Sun, 02 July 2017, 09:19:57
Hi,

Since launching this group buy (http://caps-unlocked.com/group-buy-enjoypbt-pbt-dye-sub-iso-keycap-set/ (http://caps-unlocked.com/group-buy-enjoypbt-pbt-dye-sub-iso-keycap-set/)) on the capsunlocked store, I have received multiple requests from community memebers to create an ISO keycap set with more compatibility and better colours.

This is an interest check for an enjoyPBT keycap set that supports a variety of ISO layouts.

This is the current base kit:

[attachimg=15]
The keycaps in black will not be produced with this set.

I have currently only included the ISO-UK keys, however I am am asking the community which other ISO layouts they would like to see included.

Colours also need to be discussed, and if you have any suggestions or preferences, please leave a comment below. The legends will be black unless there is wide support for another colour.

This is an instabuy for me  :)

A 1u bottom row "Code" would be awesome but otherwise looks good as is for my needs.

Colours I vote for a mixture of white, beige & grey. Either White or Beige Alphas and Beige or Grey Mods.

Thanks for running this buy  :thumb:

just a thought since this a ISO kit, ISO should be first shown not ANSI  :P

ISO-CH would be an instant buy for me, at least 1, most likely 2. This would be a good Christmas present I guess.

I've never seen an ISO-CH out there :(

What's the profile for these keys? Tentatively interested if Cherry, not really interested if OEM.

The legends will be black unless there is wide support for another colour.

Pink alphas, cyan modifiers, I just don't think there are enough keysets with that combination  :p

Serious answer: black on white is kind of boring, but at my first thought was: "well at least it's not another beige and/or gray colorway."

NorDe (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=85609.0).

Comparing the Nautilus Norde success vs the Yuri is going to be quite informative, but I assume this enjoyPBT is dyesub, so it's easier to create language kits?

Are French, Italian Spanish and Portuguese usually left out when the double shot sets run?

Any desire for some non Latin legends to use instead of blanks? Cyrillic and Hiragana are seemingly always popular, and the XDA Milestone had some interesting choices. Maybe this could have an original alternative?

Icon modifiers?

As far as secondary legends go, I think US-International sublegends is one of the most practical looking. Very pretty too!

Cherry profile with Cherry legends.

enjoyPBT is dyesub, so it's easier to create language kits?
Definitely.

Are French, Italian Spanish and Portuguese usually left out when the double shot sets run?
French is left out entirely because it has too many unique keys, the others are partially supported. Dyesubbing could cover more languages, but the price would still increase nonetheless.

Any desire for some non Latin legends to use instead of blanks?
EnjoyPBT supports non latin legends already.

There's a growing interest for text-only modifiers, they look cleaner and nicer (in my opinion).

Dolch is not gonna happen, you can't dyesub lighter legends onto dark base PBT, unless you use inverse dyesubs, but then the legends will come out all fuzzy and horrible

Anything with light alphas and coloured modifiers (subtle, not too constrasty) in ISO-NorDe layout would be great. Is the group buy removed from your site? Could only find the mondrian one (very cool, btw).

Thank you for the feedback!

I removed the previous enjoyPBT group buy as there was not much interest in it, and I didn't want to have too many group buys active at the same time.

I am glad that you like GMK Mondrian. :)

It is a tough question. what is the color pallet from enjoyPBT? But preferable, Dark grey tones with black legends. or WOB. MOQ have to be meet though :) If its clean and you add the Nordekit, i will take 2 sets :)) i would also like to see colors, but hope its not to hard to meet MOQ if things go bananas

I don't believe WoB is possible with EPBT

I've seen it done, they dye the rest of the cap and leave the legend, but yeah, you generally have to go dark legends on light base.

You know I am definitely in for a set too.  Any thoughts on my suggestion about an EngjoyPBT HADapter/internation kit for existing sets?

EnjoyPBT has also done infill legends in the past. Anyway, while any of the two procedures is too complicated/expensive for a full set of keycaps, it would be nice to have a couple of special keys in each set (Esc, Enter) made this way.

Title: Re: [IC] enjoyPBT ISO Keycap Set
Post by: spookydoge on Mon, 07 August 2017, 14:15:55
I'm definitely for the classic beige + grey colors

The important things for me are:

1. OS-neutral "windows" key

2. Proper keycaps for 105 key US layout, as done in GMK Triumph Adler. This includes a backslash/pipe key for the home row (which goes next to the ISO enter) and a blank key to go next to the small ISO shift.

3. A context menu key. From the mockup, it looks like it's replaced by an FN key, but I would definitely still want a context key.

If this is still going, I would suggest using icon mods as IMO they look cleaner and are less prone to looking odd on smaller keys (looking at you short left shift).

Sorry for the lack of communication regarding this set.

I had planned for this group buy to run later in the year, possibly early next year, however I can confirm that it will start as soon as all of the base kit has been confirmed.

I will be posting the base kit over the next few days, and then the colour scheme needs to be decided.

Thank you for all of the support for this set, I really appreciate it. :)

The profile will be 1-1-2-3-4, as I believe this is the most standard configuration.

I will look into adding a stepped R3 Control.

The "Mµ" key? I didn't include it because I wasn't sure if it was necessary. If others want it as well, I can definitely add it.

What does everyone think?

Are there any other keys that should be added?
Would you be so kind to add the rest of the keys for a proper SWE/FI layout? In the 9009 international kit IC the consensus was that almost 80% of people prefer to pay a little more to get full coverage. If you do plan on not adding those, please at least be evenhanded in removing 30% of UK specific and ANSI specific keys as well.

ps. I don't really get it why you keep the ansi keys in this at all. You can already buy ansi sets by ePBT in multiple colourways.

I'm not even interested in the UK/ISO aspect, I'm in this simply because it includes R3 Control, 1.75u shift, R2 backspace, 75% & 1800 layout keys. If ANSI keys were removed, I'd have to buy this AND the normal ANSI sets, which I'm not going to do

I'm sure there are others in the same boat who want the extra layout options for their ANSI or modified ANSI boards

I will gladly add the rest of the SWE/FI layout! Which additional keys are required?

The ANSI Keys will remain as it means ISO users have the option of ANSI keys for future keyboards. There may also be ANSI users, who might want to use ISO in the future.

Let me know which additional keys are required, and I will add them. :)

The kit in T0mb3ry's eclipse seems to contain what is needed for good support of at least SWE/FI/DE/NO.

A complete support for the 2008 FI keyboard layout would look like this:
(I have not seen anyone print this on any keyboard yet, and while a nice curiosity I would not push for anyone to add this to any GB)

If you change the name people will be pouring in here to complain about the number of international keys  :))
"such expensive" "very many keys" "why not separate kit", while this _is_ the separate kit.

I thought I had removed those in the latest update, thank you for reminding me. I thought they were necessary for a particular layout, but I think I was wrong.

I think that this will be the final base kit, I don't think there are any more ISO keys to add.

That, and R3 Stepped Control are the last keys I think I will add.

The only thing to change with this set is to add icons to the modifiers.

The legend colour will be black.

I have checked UK, DE, FI/SE, DK, NO and FR.

UK - OK

DE - Missing the [attachimg=1] key. Also the alignment of the AltGr legends are wrong on [attachimg=2] and [attachimg=3].

FI/SE - OK

DK - Double check the alignment on the [attachimg=4] key. It's hard to see if its correct.

NO - Same as above for the [attachimg=5] key

FR - The [attachimg=6] key looks like it has quotes instead of umlaut. The [attachimg=7] key is redundant, as it is included for NO. What is the [attachimg=8] key for?

How much interest has there been for FR? It's 25 keys after all.

I guess you would have to see the price, before you can decide whether the set is too expensive for you. There are many cheap ePBT sets out there and considering that ISO support was the whole point of this GB, as stated in the OP, I find it a little annoying that people are starting to demand stripping this down to a yet another #MAGA set of which there is an abundance already.

Maybe a separate IC with different priorities should be started, focusing on the needs of generic ansi users. Originative's modern beige and Shadovved's ePBT GBs have been great successes, and following in their footsteps it should be trivial to set up something for the ansi community, without the need to water down this one.  You could even have the distributor in the US of A and save in shipping costs, which are bound to be the next thing US based ansi users are going to complain about. (see the eclipse GB and people complaining about an European distributor is "not fulfilling" the needs of Americans)

My sincere hope is that this GB will continue to focus on the markets that are not yet covered by ePBT (or any cherry profile dyesub) sets.

DK - Double check the alignment on the (Attachment Link) key. It's hard to see if its correct.

NO - Same as above for the (Attachment Link) key

FR - The (Attachment Link) key looks like it has quotes instead of umlaut. The (Attachment Link) key is redundant, as it is included for NO. What is the (Attachment Link) key for?

How much interest has there been for FR? It's 25 keys after all.

Thank you for looking over the entire set! I will correct an issues / add any missing keys immediately! :)

If the price of this kit is too expensive, I will consider removing the ISO-FR Keys. Ideally I would like to keep them, however I can understand that people don't want to pay a large amount for this set, especially when they will only use a few keys.

I think this will be the final base kit.
I can try and double check the included keys, if you want. What compatibility are you aiming for? Like everything, including ES/IT/PT/FR? Or just Ansi+NorDeUK?

I have uploaded a new base kit. Please check the new base kit.

I am mainly aiming for ANSI+ NorDeUK support.

How much are those european keys adding to the final cost? Seems to be growing quickly, might be worth selling as a separate kit
I think that splitting the set is going to make it even more expensive. There are ansi only ePBT sets out there already.

There won't be any separate kits.

You mean you're not willing to pay $200 for some extra keys you won't use? Nonsense.

I wouldn't mind a smaller amount and paying a little more to help out the European communities that usually get shafted by lack of availability, but there's just so many now...

My sincere hope is that this GB will continue to focus on the markets that are not yet covered by ePBT (or any cherry profile dyesub) sets.

Just buy something like this already:
https://kbdfans.myshopify.com/collections/keycaps/products/pre-order-enjoypbt-arabic-duy-sub-keycaps

Comes with everything you just listed and more.

If it were Jp instead of Arabic, I would  ;D
Your ideal set has already been made (surprise! ansi power!): https://originative.co/products/modern-beige?variant=18906335301

If the set is too expensive, I will consider removing the ISO-FR keys as there does not seem to be much interest in these.

Nope, originative ****ed that up. For example, there's an R3 + for 1800 support, but no R2 -. I could list everything else wrong with the set, but there's just too much missing for $99 + shipping.

The windowed lock keys are nice however, and I'd really like to see that done with this set...

It's looks like it marginally supports compact 1800 where all you need is the 1u 0 key, a R3 + and 1.75 right shift.

I don't have any strong opinions about icons, but shouldn't we have an AltGr key, now that we have been so meticulous about the AltGr legends?

The price for this keycap set will be around 100GBP. The MOQ is believed to be 70 units. I am in the process of confirming a few details, but once everything has been confirmed I will provide an exact price and MOQ. The rough price provided is to give everyone an indication of how much this set will likely cost.

Hi Everyone,

I believe that I have mentioned this before elsewhere, however I will write it here on GeekHack.

I (capsunlocked) have not had any direct contact with ePBT regarding this set and despite me sending a message to them, I have not heard anything back. I am getting this keycap set produced by ePBT, via KBDFans. KBDFans have provided me with all of the details from ePBT about this set, and I am working with them to make this set possible. Although I am working with KBDFans to get this produced, this will be a capsunlocked product.

I am writing this here, as I believe that you should all be aware of this. If anyone has any further questions, please feel free to ask. :)

Sorry if this has been mentioned previously but is there any chance you would be able to give the option of purchasing just the 4 or so keys necessary to convert an existing Epbt kit to iso? For example I have an Epbt blue cyrillic set from an old GB and a red japanese set from Oco and it would be nice to have the option to use them on my iso boards as well as my ansi ones? I believe kbd fans have the set of 4 iso keys in multiple colours on their site however they don't have legends? No worries if not

I've been quiet until now because there a just a few italian users around here and no one bothered to ask but, out of sheer curiosity, how much would supporting the ISO-IT cost? It would need seven more keycaps, leaving out the fact that it doesn't have tertiary legends on the number row.

I know I've mentioned it before, but if you add even more language-specific keys I really think you're going to need to split the kit into 2. I can't speak for everyone, but paying GMK set prices for dye sub chinese PBT just to get keys the vast majority of people who would otherwise be interested in the set is just too much

I understand your concerns with the size and price of the kit, and I appreciate the feedback.

I fully realise that there would be benefits to splitting the kits, and I have often thought about doing so. After much consideration, I will not be splitting the kits at this time. I understand that this means that many users will be paying for keys they will probably never use, however this is the only chance Europeans may get for full compatibility. It is rare for an EnjoyPBT (I don't belive they have ever offered this level of compatibility) or GMK keycap set to offer such compatibility at such a reasonable price. I am fully aware that this is more expensive than a standard EnjoyPBT set, however I want this keycap set to be as accommodating and available to Europeans as possible. There are many ANSI EnjoyPBT keycap sets currently available, and I don't want this to become another "ANSI Set + Several ISO Keys", the aim is, and always has been, to make this set for Europeans whom currently have limited options when it comes to keycap sets.

Old school Windows + Windows 10 Logos are my favorite. Maybe Linux/OS one’s added too?

The biggest advantage of dye sub PBT is value for money. I can get a GMK set for this price, and this won't be giving me any additional keys that I'd use. I understand you wanted to include European languages, but in doing so you have made this set exclusive to those people now because no one like myself or non-EU guys are gong to be interested at that price.

The price of the kit will be 115GBP.
So cheap! That’s like 50% of the price of gmk sets with similar coverage, and in a superior material! Will buy a couple  :thumb:

It's about €30 cheaper than a GMK set with a euro kit, not quite 50% but I guess most euro kits aren't quite that extensive

Remember to add VAT. My plum set was 246,76 USD in total. That is about 190 GBP. (that means that this is just 40% cheaper and not 50, my bad)

A little unfair to compare something you import yourself vs proxied goods - would be more comparable to a GMK set shipped directly from Europe, but I can't think of any recent GBs that had an EU proxy and an euro kit.

Either way, for someone like me who has no use for half of the set, it's too much money.

There's a good number of people who prefer dyesub PBT over doubleshot ABS. I believe they would find this price fair and interesting.

If someone is not interested in the Euro half, they are essentially paying £60 for the following keys

I wish you guys luck on meeting the MOQ as I know even when there are Euro kits, stuff is usually missed. Hopefully you can get this extensive set.

From the GMK DOOM thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=88254.0).
I am not sure when the group buy for this keycap set will start, however it will most likely be in December. I think the group buy for EnjoyPBT Europe will be organised before this.
I believe we can expect this to happen in a couple of weeks.

I believe quality speaks and I would be happy to send you samples to compare.

Looking forward to this set!

The colour hasn’t been 100% confirmed.

Any colour is available.
Meaning light legends on dark keys with inverted dye sub is possible?

In that case, I would suggest a replica of the Yamaha CX5M.

Or even the CX5M-II which has cyan legends on mods.

Also a Classic Beige with full iso support might be sell well.

You might want to put it up to a vote.

Can't believe I've missed this for so long! I have a couple of blank enjoypbt keysets, never went with the gorgeous dyesubs because there was no HHKB layout support... which this brings, LIKE! :thumb:

Personally, I would love to have the classic beige enjoypbt already had, with red or purple legends (or even blue). Will it be possible to have different sets with different legend colours, or will there be only one colour scheme?

How do you feel about offering international kits that go with all the other keysets epbt already sells?

I really don't want to buy another keyset when I already have 2 from epbt.

Recently I have been considering splitting the sets into two:

- ANSI with Compatibility Keys
- ISO Pack with all ISO Keys

however I am concerned that the ISO pack may not reach a separate MOQ of 70-100 units.

Thank you for the support. The keycaps will have the classic beige and grey colour scheme with black legends.

Any update for us? GMK Legends sound perfect.

The GMK legends will only be used if I decide to go with another manufacturer. Currently this set is most likely going to be produced by EnjoyPBT.

One more question: is there a chance to have dished home keys without bars?

Unfortunately I will not be adding any more keys to this kit. Sorry!

Please do. Completely disinterested otherwise.

Do you believe people who would want to pay for all those extra keys they aren't going to use outweigh the number of people who would buy the ISO pack? If the ISO pack doesn't hit MOQ, I don't think the entire thing as one set would hit MOQ in the first place. I doubt there is anyone who would pay all that extra money for ISO/EU keys they wouldn't use when they can just buy the 145 key enjoypbt set from kbdfans for $105 shipped

How would this affect the pricing for the ISO people? If splitting ends up costing more (like more than 5$), then I suggest to sell it together in order to more easily make the MOQ.

You could also sell the same set without the ISO keys, in addition to the combined kit, in order to cater to Petch et al, who for some reason have not already bought their sets form kbdfans.

I thought the key idea behind this project was to bring a keyset on the market that's specifically made for EU users.
It would be a shame if an EU-ISO-Kit doesn't hit MOQ, but a widely available ANSI-Kit does.

Why do you think them being 2 sets would mean it might not hit MOQ, whilst being 1 single set would?

For that to happen there would have to be people interested in buying the full single set that are not wanting any of the EU/ISO keys. And you said it yourself, those sort of kits are widely available. If people who are doing this come forward I'll shut up about it, but I can't see any scenario where someone wanting ANSI only would buy a full ISO/EU kit with all the extra cost that adds.

If anything, splitting the set will make hitting MOQ *more* likely (if it's the same colour as existing sets) as there are already a lot of enjoypbt sets floating about people might want to buy an EU/ISO kit for. There's clearly a market for that since KBDfans are already selling a (very small) enjoypbt ISO kit.

Unless the MOQ will for some reason be higher for each individual set if it's split?

If it is not, we should split to three kits while we are at it. ANSI specific keys in their own kit, away from polluting us Europeans. ;)

You might not mind, but the price step will but off enough people for it to not make MOQ.

Even on massdrop GMK sets where over a thousand base kits are sold, the amount of international kits sold usually sits around 50 - which is below GMK's MOQ (they still get produced, but only because of massdrop)

GMK is only ABS.. I'm not going to overspend on plastic that wont even outlive my underwear.

The point with this set was high quality PBT and support for various layouts that's always left out. There's tons of GMK-sets out there that supports various layouts if anyone feel like they have to much money. :)

jep i know the story :( but i think MD is OK with that bc they gain more then they loose. ( lets not go down the argument road ) :P  the estimated price for this set was still up there towards GMK prices if i remember correctly  ( havnt checked OP ).

If i am correct, the reason for putting this set out was to have ALL ( almost ) EU countries covered. Would we not be able to try and see if we could hit MOQ for GMK? as long as the set still have the same colors as op ( or the ones that can match with stock GMK colors and then try it out? but off-course no PBT  arrgh i hope we can find a salution for the manufacturer "hickup"

I received news this morning that ePBT no longer wish to produce this set.

I am considering all other profiles for this keycap set.

Did they give any information as to why they no longer wish to produce the set?

Still 100% here aswell. Can we not just go towards GMK? or will people have a issue with the "heavy" prices. I personally do not mind!

GMK is only ABS.. I'm not going to overspend on plastic that wont even outlive my underwear.

The point with this set was high quality PBT and support for various layouts that's always left out. There's tons of GMK-sets out there that supports various layouts if anyone feel like they have to much money. :)

I second this. While this may not be the case for all, the idea for me was to get high quality, thick PBT keycaps with a wide variety of layout support so I did not have to use blanks. Both NPKC and Tai-Hao sets I've seen seem inferior to the ePBT set I have. However, I do not own any sets of either, so my comparison is based on photos online, which hardly seems fair. Anyone who can weigh in on how other manufacturers compare to ePBT?

Wasn't there a guy here and on reddit presenting his business on pbt dye subbing entire sets of white &/or light colored keycaps in any color / motif / design you could think of by sending him a picture?

This could be used to create all the keys with all the specialized caps we want with the best quality blanks available and I'm certain that he'd go down with the price ( I believe it was around $100 per set) or add more keys for the same price if
we would organize a GB.

Just an idea that shot through my mind before going to sleep yesterday

The colours are still to be decided, but I have a quote from GMK. I am asking multiple manufacturers, and GMK have sent me their quote.

At 150 sets, the cost will be between 175-180GBP but that includes PayPal and shipping fees.

Does anything like this in all white on black exist? I'd like to get that in NorDe and can't find it, wider NorDe conversation here https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=97874 . +1 for NorDe and +1 for blank Windows key.
