"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I failed at maintaining and ended up with a headache and wanting to throw up. It just seemed like no matter how much I drank it wasn't helping. Tons of water and some Gatorades.

Hopefully do better tomorrow.

I like the "feels like 110" like I would read that and be like, "oh! It's really not that bad."

I went paintballing a couple times recently, and now I want to spend all my money on that hobby instead of keyboards, but I know there are keyboard things that I should still get because I won't get another chance to buy them even though I'm not as excited about them as I was a week or two ago. I tried to get back into paintball last year too after 10 or 11 years of not playing, but my interest died pretty quickly. I think the same thing might happen this year, so I just have to resist any purchases for a while to see if I really want anything.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

Friends of mine who have tried my PC...remark at the graphics and frame rate etc....yet everytime I offer to help them build one I get the same response...

It's too difficult

It's too expensive...as they pay $60 a year to play online..lol...$150 for "elite controllers" and so forth...and $60 per new game

Meanwhile I show them budget builds and even offer to help them start-end...

It's maddening the amount of misinformation people buy into.

yeah, that truly is frustrating... I've given up on those who are too stubborn to realise... I got one or two converted over to PC and they love it. They also tried to argument with the others but they're just so resilient. I don't care anymore, I've got more pressing matters on hand than that bs

Trying to price out rental cars for an upcoming vacation...... :o

I'm torn between forgoing damage waivers and incidental insurance vs paying for it anyway.....I mean....in the event something did happen my deductible is going to be more than what they charge but then in the event nothing happens I've wasted a few hundred bucks.... ???

And the car rental costs almost as much as the plane tickets....of course...maybe I just got cheap tickets.  8)

Several Credit cards offer to cover your deductible for free in the case of an accident if you put the full rental on the card.  Check with your CC company for coverage.

I rented a few cars and one extended cargo van before and after my move to sfl some years ago. Paid for the insurance. I miss that cargo van tbh. Zero windows and zero seats. Perfect vehicle to haul a motorcycle and listen to murdery metal music.

edit - my hands are sweaty. That's what's bothering me at the moment :(

An acquaintance with many years' experience strongly recommends getting the rental insurance. It costs, but if there is any snafu you just hand them back the keys and say "buh-bye"

Otherwise, long-distance interstate insurance claims are a nightmare and your state's insurance might not match the procedures and requirements in other states. Plus a claim will go onto your current policy.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Yeah my car insurance nearly doubled after an accident last year.

Now the decision becomes which company to rent from.

Guess I'm going to go with alamo.

I killed a few curbs but never backed into any shoppers or anything crazy. Only a four-hour drive one way but often times I drove at night and for that, I paid for full coverage. Doesn't matter who is at fault with a rental iirc

I killed a few curbs but never backed into any shoppers or anything crazy. Only a four-hour drive one way but often times I drove at night and for that, I paid for full coverage. Doesn't matter who is at fault with a rental iirc

Hrrrm..  it would seem csmertx is a seasoned killer

a 4 hour run @ 60mph would mean we'd have a 240mile search radius..

Which covers either all of the y travel or x travel of florida state..

This guy knows what he's doing stashing bodies..

Don't forget the everglades. You'll need access to the z axis in addition to the x and y axes. Thats a lot of area to cover to find some axes.

Don't be discouraged dante,

It is a rather large change to make. A Thin - lifestyle is much more complex than any one good advice..

It can be done though..

It's important that you want to live, and have an appetite and imagination for what is possible.

Now, the psychological barrier here is that ,  as you delve into the --Satiating-- foods.. They de-stress and often thoroughly remove your mental drive..

--for example, you eat a whole cheese pizza by yourself..

This is where the cycle merely repeats, as you go from Motivated, Too-Motivated, Stressed,  Satiating foods,  Momentary relief, Despair.

There are the necessary actions,  but also behind that is the decision to thoroughly remove yourself from old lifestyle habits.

After having caught up on the keyboard section after my recent absences, I've still got media and new members to go.

Still not enough time.

After two years of giving up drinking I got drunk three weekends in a row. That's bothering me.

Also just dunked a ginger nut in my coffee and it broke off.

It's really annoying how empty /r/mechmarket is for europeans. You americans get all the good stuff.
I would really like some artisans for my first mech but here in germany it's even more expensive and inconvenient..
Paying premium and handling customs isn't great.. especially as student with lower income.
Or maybe i just have to wait forever until a good EU offer appears there .. but the prices from EU sellers are usually higher, because they had to pay import taxes in the past as well. It sucks.

And it bothers me that i'm looking for that kind of stuff instead of learning for the university, as i should  :))

You shouldn't waste time on keyboards period..

Do it after you leave university..

You will never be around so many females willing to talk to and engage with you at Little to NO COST..

Once you leave University,  85% of the good looking females are snatched up..  and the rest are no longer in close proximity.

Then , you enter a bunch of tech job, with all 0x females..  and remember only ~15% of the good looking ones are left..

So if this tech com has 10% females,  that's only 1 to 2 good looking ones..   and you have to fight off EVERYONE else who's better looking than you are..

Tp4's recommendation is waste no time on keyboards during your college years...   Get female xperience..

It's ur only chance..

You both have very valid points :)

I don't plan on "wasting" (doing things you enjoy is never really a waste of time) too much time on keyboards tough.
I can't justify buying keyboards as a collectible of some sort for me, especially as student, so i will always just buy one if i need it for something. That limits the whole thing greatly, because there is rarely a need to really have many keyboards.
I also can't justify for me to spend 200 dollars on a set of keycaps. My 48 Dollar Tai-Hao Doubleshot PBT set feels and looks great to me, i can't imagine that something like a GMK set could be soo much better to be worth the quadruple price. Never tested it, so what do i know.. maybe it's for the best, because if it's with these ones like it is with mechs in general and you can't really go back after you tried it ... i don't want to get sucked in that money pit too

I think the moment you tried a mechanical keyboard it's to late to abort. It's just too superior to rubber domes. And me having a very precise mental image of how my room should look and feel like in order to maximize the good&productive feeling while staying in it it was immediately clear that i will customize that one as good as i can ^^ . The better the setup gets the more i get annoyed by the little things that are not to my liking.

However there really isn't much left to do apart from building a custom cable for it and looking into mechmarket once a day in order to find some "cheap" artisans, possibly in a lilac or slate/onyx-ish colorway to match my normal keys.

So there is plenty of time to enjoy life as a student ;)

From observing nature,   we see birds and other (Nesting) animals collect things like certain leaves and pebbles to (Decorate) their domicile before they are able to use it to attract a mate.

So what you're feeling about having your room a certain way is EXACTLY the same extension. The difference is, It's less useful these days vs in the wild when you had all them perfectly round rocks on the floor and that animal skin carpet, where you hunted and killed the animal..

What's the point then, if you're still driven by a very basic urge to (decorate rooms),  while such act is decoupled from its original purpose..

Either way.. as an older guy, I can tell you everything I've ever collected has been a major waste of time..

Keycaps are stupid..

Keyboards are mostly useless..

Get out of your room,  work out,  buy a mens style magazine,   get better looking,   stop wasting time on the internet reading about keyboards..

well, unless you work in IT or with a computer, then a keyboard is the opposite of useless  :p

In fact i'm studying something called "Communications and Computer Engineering" which is basically a hybrid of computer science and electrical engineering, but EE not so deep into the physics aspects.
My focus is generally more on the CS part with the plan to later focus on computer vision and neural networks during my master (and maybe during a phd..we will see)
Aside from my studies i'm currently working at an institute at my university as a student assistant since may, helping out with everything related to our digital map which we later use in our autonomous test cars (programming and sometimes manual data processing) for a start, in the future something related to object detection/recognition/tracking, as soon as i aquire the necessary theoretical knowledge.

So yeah .. work, university, interests, everything involves using a computer and a keyboard all day long.. so not that useless.

But i get what you're trying to communicate tp4. You seem like a wise/experienced man
