holy **** your back, I have been waiting for this kit for what seems like forever. Super glad you haven't actually given up on it, and really looking forward to what you have planned.

Love the theme and the colors, so I'll be most likely in.

But I think you should add a resistor novelty key.

Can you add power distribution symbols too please? I'm an electrician and it would be cool to have keycaps with symbols that are on the plans

Well, it's been almost 2 years since I last worked on the set... I feel really bad about my inactivity, and now that I'm graduating college (finally) I want to get back into designing key caps.

I'm going to start with finishing up GMK Electric and getting it to production, as I feel this set deserves to be made.

I'm currently looking into what people have been doing for the past couple of years so I can modify my child deals to fit with what is most popular. It seems where I left off back in February of 2018 was pretty solid, and I imagine only a few modifications will need to be made to get to a final design.

Assuming designs are finalized over the next couple months, I imagine the set will enter production late this year. And the plan is still to go with Drop, with perhaps some other distributors as well for those outside the US.

Please, if you have suggestions for the kit, any key cap you want to see included, please let me know in this thread! (and please include your reasoning  :D)

Can you please modify the Colevrak kit to align with the newer Colevrak+ offering? I believe that the kit from the GMK WoB IC is considered best practice.

On the latest update, the base kit has an R3 `~ key (between the horizontal Enter and the barred F) that looks completely out of place. I guess it's meant to be an R3 \| key instead?

Oh my! I'm an electrical engineering major and this is incredible. I love the symbols. My inner EE is hoping for stuff like an Op Amp or maybe some sort of BJT or MOS.  :p

Edit: I noticed you also asked for reasons, Op Amps and transistors are integral parts of analog electronics and power electronics as well. I also think it would be really cool if letters such as V, I, R and others that have a large meaning in electrical applications where highlighted. Maybe make the lettering blue in that case, or something along those lines.

The Nordic Kit is missing the Z for R2. The Y for R4 is included for some reason. That would make the Nordic Kit also fully compatible to ISO-DE, the standard german QWERTZ-Layout.

"Cherry sculpted profile (1-2-3-4-4)" is the "normal" one found on the G80-3000 i guess?
Did you decide on the material yet? ABS? PBT? Something else?

If you add the Z i might be in for Base Kit+Nordic. :)
(Oh and a EU distributor would be great.. having to pay high shipping plus +19% tax ain't no joke..)

Of course, the thing is that (at least in Germany) you pay the "Mehrwertsteuer" of 19% on products. But when you import something it's suddenly called "Einfuhrumsatzsteuer" and the sum of everything in that order gets taxed, including the shipping costs.
(And what's even more annoying, it's very likely you'll have to pick up the package from the customs office.. which in my case means a 1h drive and having to wait in line for ages, followed by explaining what the hell i ordered to a 60 year old bureaucrat that could easily be replaced by a chimp.) :)

I think if you add the UN6037 colored standard spacebars to the base kit (like you did for esc and arrows) for consistency, it would be perfect!

I second D3LTA's suggestion.  Please add the group of keycaps on the right to make a full Colevrak+ kit.

Maybe Alt Gr in the Nordekit?

Is it just me or is Alt Gr becoming more and more neglected? Really happy about it right now actually considering my economics, meaning very few kits are even interesting for me. But worried about the trend in general.

I tested this out, and personally I think the dark gray is necessary to balance out the look of the set. With all blue modifiers it looks too light overall.

Hey, could you add R3 PgUp, R4 PgDn for 65%/75% users and change the R4 \| ISO key to <> so that there isn't a duplicate legend (ISO people really seem to dislike this)?

I also think you should change the Scroll Lock legend to Scroll, Num Lock legend to Num, and stepped Caps Lock legend to Caps, for consistency.

For the colors of the set being not so loud, I think the deskmat could be a lot more subtle, and I find it way too busy (even as an EE).

As the kit stands now, it has both R3 \| and R4 \| (this is called "PC style"). Konstantin is suggesting that you use R3 \| and R4 <>. Either option is fine, but the latter is preferred because it avoids having a "duplicated key" in the keyboard.

See http://www.farah.cl/Keyboardery/Why-Do-Keycap-Sets-have-so-many-Copies-of-the-Backslash-Pipe-Key/#row4yes for more information on this.

Sweet, glad to hear that.

As for the ISO keys, people have been complaining about the duplicate legends in those sets. It's better not to do it that way. Most sets actually use R3 #~, R4 \|, which is a bit better since there's no duplication, but it's still not great since it's an incomplete set of keys pulled out of ISO-UK (not that there's anything wrong with ISO-UK, it's just not a consistent way of going about things).

R3 \|, R4 <> is the best solution for basic ISO support because it:
  • avoids duplicate legends;
  • is a complete set, in the sense that it covers at least one layout fully;
  • covers many layouts partially (more than 13, whereas R3 #~, R4 \| covers around 3);
  • allows for the best partial coverage achievable with just 4 keys, in terms of approximate number of ISO users: 49% for R3 \|, R4 <>, vs 34% for R3 #~, R4 \|;
  • is more “neutral”, since \| stays next to the Enter key, just switches rows from R2 to R3 due to the different shape of the Enter key.

R3 \|, R4 <> covers US ISO fully (4 keys), and the following layouts partially (3 keys): DE, DK, IS, FO, NO, SE/FI, EE, FR, BE, IT, PT, ES, AR/BO/CL/CO/EC/PY/PE/UY/VE. This accounts for 244 out of 503 votes from ISO-using countries (not counting US ISO), or 49%, but likely more since some of the layouts in this list fell under the Other category in the survey.
R3 #~, R4 \| covers the following layouts partially (3 keys): UK/IE, BR, MT. This accounts for 173 out of 503 votes from ISO-using countries, or 34%.

I can't believe somebody made a set with 1.5u shift! Awesome!
And a really pretty one, too.

May I ask why you have 2 1.5u and 2 1.25u alt-gr each? Haven't seen more than one per keeb so far.

New update in OP! Let me know what you think of the desk mat design :)

My electrical engineering bits are tingling.  :p

I'm glad  :p

Design is hot!

Thank you!

For the colors of the set being not so loud, I think the deskmat could be a lot more subtle, and I find it way too busy (even as an EE).

That is totally understandable, as I was designing it I was going back and forth to whether I should leave empty space or fill the entire mat. Would you (and anybody else reading this) be interested in a "toned-down" version of the desk-mat? If so I could probably throw that together.

Thanks for pointing that out, it is fixed now. Also, may I ask what you use the 1.5u shift for?

Also, thank you @konstantin and @depletedvespene for the explanation behind the duplicate key, I replaced it with the > < key as you guys requested!

And finally, I created two ISO enter novelties, and am curious what people think.

(oh yeah, I also removed the duplicate Alt Gr keys from Norde)

Good use of space on the ISO keys.
Dumb question. GMK Ursa had an ISO kit that...handily made MOQ 100! on the back of Paddington on the ISO enter, as Paddington was both unique to that child kit and also was a good icon for the ISO enter crowd. Is there any electrical symbol/theme that’s limited to or more prevalent in the EU?

Good point, if somebody has some idea that would make it more unique to Europe in some way that would be great!

As you may be aware, there are some differences between the North American (NEMA) and European (IEC) symbol conventions for passive components.

However, in practice the difference isn't that great, the two conventions are often mixed in schematics (especially for resistors), and many European engineers prefer to use the NA symbols (and vice-versa in some cases). A more detailed comparison chart is available here.

However, I don't think any of these symbols are as cool as Ursa's Paddington Bear novelty, so how about using a more memorable symbol, like, say, a three-phase transformer? As a Nikola Tesla fan, this would be very cool to see.

Or how about a full bridge rectifier? I'm sure there are some ElectroBOOM fans out here.

Another personal favorite of mine is the Wheatstone bridge.

Konstantin that’s amazing

I bought the Is0 1 key board for ISO keycaps to use my Rolling Bones Iso enter, but the full bridge rectifier or another space filling design might take precedence.

Euro folks should pick tho.
