Title: Margo's Mods
Post by: margo baggins on Wed, 23 October 2013, 13:57:54
(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/Margosmods_zps2acbf5ca.png)

Imgur - http://margobaggins.imgur.com

A few points about me and my service: I don't play with your boards, I plug them in, I test key registers and I test over the board with a multimeter.

Tell me what you want, we will work out a price - once you have posted me the board send me the money plus however much it cost you to post and I will post it back by exactly the same method and it should then cost the same and thus you would of already covered your return postage.

Why should you choose me to sort your board?:

 - I am cheaper than most paid services
 - I have decent equipment
 - I have extensive experience
 - I am good at communicating and honest
 - I try to turn boards around within 7 days, I've not kept any paid work for longer than 2 weeks, so 2 weeks is kind of worst case scenario
 - 100% transparency, I can provide you with my full details etc. and below at the bottom of this post is where I am currently at with everything and expected dates for postage etc.

HOWEVER!

I am a real person, I work in IT so my workload is subject to change sometimes at the drop of a hat, but, I always keep anybody who's property I have informed, normally before I actually get busy, with a realistic time span for when their board will be done and posted back.

PLEASE BARE IN MIND: My work is not ROHS, I use LEAD SOLDER (60/40)- so please don't lick your boards :) If you want ROHS compliant electronics I can do this - but this is at request and not my standard practice and carries a $5 premium.

Thanks,
Margo & [CTRL]ALT

Are there any previous mods you've worked on that you can show us? Or maybe some previous customers that could chime in? Not that I doubt your abilities, it would just be nice to see your handiwork.

Solder joints? I have a dox here I have just built, I will unpackage it and take some pictures as I don't think I have actually ever taken any pictures of that.

Do you have any experience assemblying A87 PCB's? (by OTD)

I have the bare pcb and the normal assorted stuff that needs to be soldered on, but I am not sure if resistors or anything else is included. Do you have switches and LED's on hand? I am curious as to how much they would be in addition as shipping would be cheaper (I believe) >.<

Kind of don't want to ruin my pcb  with my noobiness.

In other words, how much would it be to assemble a pcb with all soldering needed in addittion to switches and LED's

Hello I haven't built one of those before but I can't imagine it being a problem. I keep some LEDs in stock, normally just things I have left over, I prefer to buy in LEDs for each project, but at the moment I have red/white/blue/pink. I don't have any switches OR stabs on hand (at the moment).

If the switches are new and there is no dis assembly of a donor board - and you want full LED, then just $25 and shipping (and the cost of anything I need to buy, ie. LEDs or smd resistors etc. - this would all be discussed prior to me purchasing anything so it's entirely transparent.)

Depends how quickly you want the switches etc as to how much they can cost. Price of LEDs is not much, most expensive colour is pink and they are £19 for 100 (I don't know what that is in $ off the top of my head), but other colours are cheaper.

Would it be possible for you to mod a 104 key US layout keyboard into a 105 key ISO UK layout?

I am looking into getting a keyboard with clears and wasd only sell 87 or 104 key ISO layouts with clears, and the price of buying 105 clear switches and completely changing a 105 key board is daunting.

Edit: After contacting WASD, they aren't getting any more CODE keyboards in stock until August 2014. :'(

Hello,

I reckon I could do it, though I have never done it - if you did want this I would buy keyboard first and make sure it's possible, so if you do want it let me know so I can sort out ordering myself a keyboard!

After more consideration, would it be better to order a 105 key board and then buy 110 clear switches from http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=597 and send them straight to you so you could do a straight swap?

Awesome! I am thinking a wasd V2 with reds, because that's all they have in stock, but are there any boards you would recommend? Or any that would make your job easier? Because I don't want to choose a board that is going to be a pain for you to work with.

They're all much of a muchness really, none any harder than the other :)  You choose whichever board you like that most.

That is seriously tiny!

Also, I would just like to say thanks to Margo. He has put up with a lot of **** from me in the last couple of months, to-ing and fro-ing with boards and switches and me changing my mind. He is quick to respond, a really nice guy and his work is top notch. Hopefully if shipping allows I can get my board done by the end of February :D

Today I fixed someones broken numpad,

Those pads in the top right are broken, so I made this with the connector:

Prices slightly revised and updated - have invested a fair amount in my equipment over the last month so is just due to that really. I still think they are very fair.

Fair?

If I lived in the UK, it would be so fair, I would be sending you a new keyboard every week to mod!!!!

(Luckily, I do not live in the UK, and since shipping to and fro would cost me at least a hundred per keyboard, I am not going to go down that slippery path. Whew!)

Poor bunny. I imagine he's bought way more keyboards than he should thanks to your very affordable services.

i would like to take a moment to point out that margo is in fact my worker monkey, and as such he gets no payment from me, not even the peanuts he charges

what i can say is i do give him a steady stream of work which he completes for me free of charge, and every time it is completed efficiently, and to the highest standards

margo truly loves his craft, and im sure would gladly do all the work for free, the charge is really just there as a barrier to entry so he doesnt get swamped with so much work he cant keep up

the man is a problem solver and im yet to be able to throw a keyboard or task at him that he hasnt been able to solve

It doth appear to me that he's an Energizer Hobbit or Gremlin slave of some sort.

(Cue Oliver Twist and some ****ensian factory environment, complete with a rabbit-toothed ***in supervising)

That said, does he repair keyboards too? Just asking; my brain is cooking up something but my inspiration is still a hodgepodge of potential mods at this point. After all, shipping won't be cheap for me so I gotta think whether a project is worth it.

you mean the numpad thing with the black-and-white cable thingy?

it looked a lot like a squid. Not being technically trained I didn't understand the photo at all. The problem I have looks quite different, including what seems to be a destroyed solder pad.

I just used wires in place of pads and traces - which pad do you have that is broken? Can you post a picture?

Normally with broken pads it's possible to just run a wire in place, but let me see a picture and I will let you know :)

Going on a road trip now with my girlfriend but will be back tomorrow after lunch.

I have attached to this post the gh60.xml and the layout I used for this board. I used revb_0.2 firmware. I can't seem to get the top right key, the split backspace, to map correctly, don't know if this is due to the firmware or not so if anyone knows any better let me know :)

Just got my WASD through today after four months of waiting (nothing to do with Margo!) and it is amazing. The clears feel incredible, it looks amazing, and there is nothing to show it's been changed at all!

I want to say that Margo is a really friendly guy, with quick responses and was able to change everything I wanted at a moments notice.

Would be my first point of call for any mods/build ever. 11/10.

Am amazed, Margo! I would have thought pcbs were your daily bread and lube your daily butter...

Btw after we talked, I wanted to send you my stuff for modding, but I delayed because I was trying to make my own jailhouse blues. And didn't succeed.

I'm still figuring out what I really want to do with my stuff. You know, whether to do ergo clears, ghetto greens, or something.

But I promise you, I'll send you once I figure things out! And you'll get that Tg3 to play with and the WYSE keycaps and all that! i really do want my stuff to get modded by your expert hands; better than things fall apart in my less-than-expert hands...

Soldered up my A.87 - this time without breaking the Atmega32 :D

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/IMG_2711_zps4c72e9c8.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/IMG_2711_zps4c72e9c8.jpg.html)

Except that brought it's own problems - in that the spare Atmega's I have have zero firmware on them, and the one I broke, was preflashed.

because i'm a nerd I have an arduido, prototyping wire and sil sockets laying about

Soldered sil sockets to ISP2

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/IMG_2712_zpsdb271b6b.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/IMG_2712_zpsdb271b6b.jpg.html)

Arduido time! While the arduino does ship with a sketch for ISP, it took me AGES to work out some of the variables for my uno

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/IMG_2713_zps53ac3dec.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/IMG_2713_zps53ac3dec.jpg.html)

Arduino getting it's flash on, it's handy having the TX RX LEDs on the board

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/IMG_2714_zpse7a01a48.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/IMG_2714_zpse7a01a48.jpg.html)

these are the commands I used:

wake it up:

avrdude -c avrisp -P com3 -p atmega32 -U hfuse:w:0xD0:m -U lfuse:w:0x0F:m -b 19200

Backup hex from atmega32:

avrdude -p atmega32 -P com3 -c avrisp -b 19200 -U flash:r:backup.hex:i

Flash hex:

avrdude -p atmega32 -P com3 -c avrisp -b 19200 -U flash:w:backup.hex:i

Those commands might be a bit different for you depending on your set up and what you are using as an isp - took me ages to get a value for -b that worked.

I have finally done it :D latest firmware, on my A.87 pcb with my own custom keymap. Pretty chuffed as I have been trying to get this working for about the last 6 days in the evenings after work.

So, I gave up trying to make sense of all the websites and translations about using bootloaders and holding down Q when you plug it in etc. etc. etc. as it was doing my head in that it wasn't working.

So - I went here and downloaded the latest firmware (I have spent a long time in and about this site the last week) http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwinkeyless.kr%2Fentry%2Fps2avrU-firmware-%25EB%25B0%258F-utility

That downloads a bunch of files - Keymain_NKRO.hex is the firmware, keymap_part(a87_V03)(a87U)(mxminiU)(a87UEX).hex is the keymap part - I then loaded the keymap part into this: http://boot.winkeyless.kr/bootMapper/ (thanks pasph :) lifesaver!) - I messed about with the layout and came up with a quick keymap (it's worth noting on that link, the "apps" key is "fn" (i think)) and then downloaded a new keymap.hex file.

I then opened up the keymain_NKRO.hex in notepad++ as it displays the hex information - here is where the magic happens..

Open your new keymap.hex in notepad++ also, and copy it all

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/keymap_zpsfe6ec9f9.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/keymap_zpsfe6ec9f9.jpg.html)

And then go back to your keymain_NKRO.hex

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/firmware_zps48232c3f.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/firmware_zps48232c3f.jpg.html)

Paste your keymap hex data where indicated in the above picture - then save this file as a new hex file.

Then flash it to your keyboard:

avrdude -c avrisp -P com3 -p atmega32 -U hfuse:w:0xD0:m -U lfuse:w:0x0F:m -b 19200

avrdude -c avrisp -P com3 -p atmega32 -U flash:w:margo.hex:i -b 19200

then excited go short all the switch sites with tweezers and test key input in aquakeytest :)

I really enjoy following this thread and seeing your work Margo -- which is really nice BTW.  :thumb:

Somehow I never saw these posts until today :)

Beserkfan thanks hehe, but your stuff is now in the post to me  :thumb:

Thanks for your nice words mashby :)

Ordered Purple case for my A.87 - can't wait !

GK's A87 is done :)

And cleaned:

Need to flash new firmware, but first need to refine keymap a little bit, then need to do another couple of electrical tests. I've continuity tested the controller already, need to just check over the diodes and the resistors. Look fine though.

My pcb has only the controller and associated hardware soldered, need to do the diodes and  the resistors. Fun fun!

Ah alright. Do you think 99% isopropyl alcohol will cut it ?
or it's a bad idea. Cause I'll doing some soldering on my own and my pcb is white.  ;)

IPA doesn't do much against the flux in the solder that I'm sending you.

Yeah I never had much luck with IPA. In the above picture, the bright spark stuff is rubbish, that doesn't really clean flux residue, the stuff on the right in the green and white can is really good and was only about £7 I think. I have barely used any of the can and I've cleaned loads of boards with it.

Looks like that product is limited to the UK, but I'm curious how you use it. How is it applied and removed?

It is apparently (though, not strictly true) "residue-less" - but, I have found that it definitely does leave a residue. Pressing the top releases some of the (pretty potent) solvents out through the brush, and I then just scrub it with the little brush, that does detach. It makes that horrible yellow flux residue vanish pretty quickly, I then scrub over the board with the little brush while still applying the solvent to keep the PCB "wet" - I only let it dry out once it's cleaned (at least, as clean as I can get it) - the solvent evaporates pretty quickly. Then I give it a good wash down with a kim wipe and some plain old water. I do need some better brushes though for cleaning PCBs, the one that comes on that solvent has very large bristles and isn't very good at cleaning right down the edge of 0805 size components and is much worse on smaller compoents (0603 etc) - I have seen some fibre glass bristle brushes that I think I am going to pick up soon.

I have found if I am useing no-clean tack flux, that doesn't really leave a residue after soldering, that it tends to break this down but spread the sticky residue over the board a little bit, this is then cleaned entirely by the water + kim wipe as the no-clean flux is water soluble.

The directions on the can are just to spray, scrub, forget - but I no likey the residue that they claim doesn't happen :D

Filled my own solder paste syringe today as I've found a supplier for paste in larger quantities, the top syringe is what I have been using, the bottom one is the one I filled this evening, and has cost me just over a quarter the price of the top one, and it's quite a lot bigger. I can just about do this cheaply enough to sell prefilled syringes but I don't know if there is demand for it as I don't know how many people are soldering SMD on air! I'm happy I've found a much cheaper source, is 63/37 blend, real joy to use as well.

Hi margo.

I'd like that you modded my CM QuickFire Tk Stealth, installing full led: can we talk about it? Maybe by PM?

In case, did you ever do such a mod on a Stealth/Ninja/any-kb-with-blank-caps?
I'm asking you so, as I'm looking for pics to evaluate the final result with not so backlit friendly keycaps, as the Stealth ones are (or I expect they are).

Thanks in advance and best regards!

Hello

The TK Stealth - while it does have the holes for LEDs on the pcb, it doesn't have any hardware on the pcb to support LEDs. I have a TK stealth, so I would need to test if just soldering in a resistor and an LED will make it work. I think it might not, but it's worth a try. I won't have any time to do this until the weekend though I don't think, as I have a couple of projects to get finished and posted and a busy week at work! But I will get it done at teh weekend and let you know :) I did have the pcb out of this board once before to look at this very proposal, but I can't remember what I decided so will have to give it another look.

I prefer solid caps over a backlight, give a sort of under glow that I think is nice.

Dear margo, first of all thanks for your kind answer: I appreciate so much your willingness.

Whether your tries won't be satisfactory, which could the alternatives be? My Tk has the IT layout, and I'm unable to source any compact brown/crystal/green-switch equipped kb with IT layout.

At any rate, my primary concern is to somehow improve the keyboard readability at night, as that's mainly what currently I don't like of this keyboard. So, if glowing in the dark will suffice, then I'd be happy with it.

Isnt that layout just standard ISO with different legends on the caps? The easiest thing to do would be to buy a backlit TK from anywhere in europe where they sell ISO layout - and then use your IT stealth caps on it, and sell the other board. But the backlight wouldn't make the caps easier to see in the dark really due to the where the legends are and the fact no light will get through the caps.

quest for silence, let me suggest this source so kindly recommended by sonic revolution and Ivan Ivanovich: xkeys

Price isn't great but it's not too exorbitant either, at $5 per 10 keys.

You can make your own legends and stick them under the relegendable cover.

Whoops. You're in the UK.

Xkeys is a US company. Having talked to them before, they only use FedEx for foreign buyers. That's freaking expensive. You have to get a US friend to proxy. My normal proxy is unavailable now, or I would ask him since I also want to buy some xkeys for myself.

I just cut through the traces where indicated above in the orange circles, I then did wire's where I wanted the signal to go

I slipped when I did the first one, top left :P is why my cut is so long, I did that one first though as there was the most amount of space around it for potential slips, that did happen :D
Ah that makes so much more sense now ahah :D

Nice job i really can't wait to see some more of your work ^^

Alright there Margo, wondering if you would be able to mod me a stepped caps lock to a center stemmed caps lock?

Cheers!

Important notice - I am not going to be taking any work on for a few months now - I will get finished what I have and get that sent back to people ASAP - with the exception of beserkerfans stuff that hasn't yet arrived from the otherside of the globe, but I've PM'd him. I've had a rather stressful week which has now culminated in me and my housemates being evicted from our house, due to no fault of our own but the landlady wants her house back to renovate and let out to a family. I have to move out/find a new place and be moved by the end of June, so I imagine the next 8 - 10 weeks are going to be rather stressful and annoying - once I have got a new roof over my head I will open my doors again.

ShreikBob - I will get your dox to you ASAP, I haven't been able to do the work I've wanted to do on yet this week due to being at the agency/working late - I will get it to you probably after the weekend, sorry I've had it 2 weeks now but this is really unfortunate timing, When it's in the post I will let you know but it won't be much longer, all I can do is apologise that I've had it now 2 weeks, but I think you'll get it back before it's been 3 weeks :)

sorry guys - I might have to sell all my wares to raise some money but hopefully it won't come to that.

Can she do that? Just evict you on such short notice?

Good luck Margon, I hope you and your roommate manage to find a place again soon. :)

Oh I forgot about you! Do you know how long your Orion is going to be? If you get it to me before I move I can still sort that for you prior to moving house.

Hey Margo,

Its no worries, it's done when its done.

I'm sorry to hear about the housing situation.  That's really sucky.  Its happened to me too, and sadly yes, your landlord can just say "oh you've been here ten years and your entire life and livelihood are hear...that's nice...heres your thirty days...get out".

Welcome to housing in the twenty first century, where anyone under 35 without rich parents is F'ed.

Even if you can't accept any mod near in future, I'd like to ask you whether you did that try with your TK stealth or not in the last two weeks, and in case whether it was succesful or not.

If it was doable, I can just wait, as time is not that important for my mod, but otherwise I have to look at elsewhere, if that led mod cannot be done on the stealth.

Thanks for your patience, and best regards!

Hello - I haven't been able to have a look yet :( My TK is my work keyboard so it's often just in my office - andI have zero free time at the moment as I am packing all my stuff up and I have a few things on with work at the moment. I will try bring my TK back from my office some time this week.

Love the work you do, I am sure if I bugger up the stuff I am planning on doing when my Poker II arrives this week I can bring it to you when you are sorted. I am just down the road from Brighton!

Anyway I look forward to more updates in this thread of your work  :thumb:

Hello Everyone!

Just a little update - I have sorted my own flat out, I am getting keys next weekend (well, I have keys, but I have had to give them to the people who are laying the carpets) - I have carpets going down all through the flat on wednesday and thursday this week, I have got a fridge, freezer, hob and oven being installed on friday, and I have the internet and TV going in in 2 weeks! So now all I have to do is slowly move all my stuff over :D

I have still been doing some work - I am rebuilding Shreikbob'x ergo dox this week - I broke it, he's being really nice about it, but I fully broke his pcb's due to being an idiot, so I've been waiting for his replacements to arrive from the states, which are currently with our customs I just need to go and pay import duties and pick them up - he won't accept a refund even though I have had his kit I think about 1.5 months, so he's a nice man - I feel bad about it as I've not ever broken anyones anything, but I am sorting it out for him, he just has to be patient :) (which he has been, massively massively patient).

I sorted my bro JaccoW's keycool last week, swapped the plate to a better plate that accepts standard space bar spacings and switch swapping, SIP modded the led switches so the LED switches can still be swapped without any soldering - that is going to be shipped back this week, his Orion is also going to arrive with me this week for buildering.

So I still doing things :) Just haven't had the chance to get any pictures up. I've also been really ill the last two weeks, that's another story, been signed off work - life been dealing me a bit of a crappy hand of late, but, things have been really looking up this week so hopefully that's my bad luck gone now for a while!

Bazerkerfan I will send you my new address for if you want any ebays etc. as I have access to the flat already. i was thinking about you this morning as your box hasn't arrived still - maybe it will in the next week or two, must of been 2 months by now. I haven't read my pm's properly, I will get through them, barely been online so I haven't meant to miss any if I have :)

tl;dr - things are significantly better - just have to physically move all my stuff now :)

Good to hear Margo :)

I was wondering if you were still alive as you haven't  been very active on BT either.
Like I told you there, take your time, I know what a pain moving places can be. I've moved 9 times in my life so far and I haven't even reached 30 yet. :P

I am really looking forward to see what you have done so far and I will be in touch for the final details regarding the Orion. You should have all the parts needed. :)

Hasn't arrived yet! Was a public holiday yesterday here in the UK - so will likely turn up today.

I have been very ill last couple of weeks, had to go to the hospital and everything! Though, today I am back at work etc. and no longer dieing :)

I can beat that! This is the 11th time I have moved house - and I am 28 in July! Though, I can't see myself moving from this place for a long time, it's owned by my family, and I've invested a huge amount of time and money over the last few weeks getting it nice and ready. Just physically need to put my stuff into boxes and move it.

Dude,

You are cool.  Don't worry about me, just make sure everything is in check with yourself.  A keyboard might be mans second best friend, but it pales in comparison compared to health and hearth.

Make all the things transparent :D

Yesterday I modded some windows:

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/IMG_2913_zps5d68ea33.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/IMG_2913_zps5d68ea33.jpg.html)

I put up this curtain pole and these curtains, infront of which is going to go my electronics desk :D It's west facing, so gets all the light in the evenings, which is when I do most of my keyboard work.

(http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/lymph/IMG_2914_zps1d169ba8.jpg) (http://s13.photobucket.com/user/lymph/media/IMG_2914_zps1d169ba8.jpg.html)

This window is in my bathroom, it's the least important of all the blinds I need to hang so I did it first to make sure I can do them and make them look nice. The blind is 100% level, the ceiling is not perpendicular to the window sides, which is why the gap above the blind is not an even rectangle!

I also layed a bunch of vinyl flooring that I didn't take a picture of. Now,  I need to put up 3 more blinds, get my new bed delivered, and my new sofa's delivered and finally then I can move all my stuff! 2 weeks today I will be waking up there :D

Ignore that the garden looks a bit disordered, that's how it was left when I got the place, and I haven't time to sort it before I move in!

Thanks for the nice pictures JaccoW! One day I will learn to use the semi decent camera I have and stop taking pictures on my iphone (maybe, doubtful hehe)

Awweeesome.  Can't wait to get a Margo-built board.  :thumb:  I have questions but I guess I'll wait until the kits are actually for sale.

It's really all about the lighting. I just bought two of these studio lights (http://www.ebay.com/itm/190834339138?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT), mini tripods (http://www.ebay.com/itm/350488482805?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT), batteries (http://www.ebay.com/itm/181150698068?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) and a charger (http://www.ebay.com/itm/371008913548?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT). And simply shot away. With simply good light you can make really good pictures, even with a cellphone.

sure is! much prefer it to aqua-  has different layouts, and is better for finding chatter box switches as it tells you press duration etc

So if the switch has chatter, what would that readout look like? I've been using AquaKeyTest and it's been helpful but more information is always a good thing :).

So you press the switch one time and release it one time, you get a duration of about 149ms-ish or w/e - if the switch has chatter you would get multiple presses and releases. Some chattery switches I press 5 times, readout is 10+ presses and releases. i haven't ever taken a screen grab of a chattery one - I will next time I see one .

Not much - I'll do it for you for a tenner + postage if it's literally just putting switches in the board.

That sir is 60/40 solder paste, so it's a paste made of I guess powered, really fine powdered solder suspended in rosin flux, it's what I use for doing SMD soldering, just stick it on all the pads, it's tacky enough to hold the little smd guy (sometimes it's not for bigger IC's then I use tack flux as well) then I use hot air to melt it all - it's nice as can melt it with hot air @ about 260 - 270 ish, so not really hot enough to melt plastic with short exposure.

I am just waiting for some bits and pieces to  arrive and we will be selling the solderpaste in the [CTRL]ALT store, for cheaper than you can find it anywhere else, and for double the quantity :D though - don't really know if there is much demand so only going to syringe up a couple to see if they sell.

So i got my first board with clears yesterday!

I wouldn't be posting in this thread if it wasn't Margo's job, so that's the reasoning behind it.

The board itself is a stock FILCO, I asked Margo to do a switch swap since he was very well known for really doing his job good.
The board itself feels really good - maybe i expected too much from clears, but they're very fine the way they are. There are absolutely no scratches and the board doesn't show that it has been pulled apart by any means. The protection sticker for the main screw of the board has been penetrated, but that doesn't really count  :p
Every button of course registers.

Although a switch swap wasn't really a challenge for a man of Margo's caliber, he still did a splendid job with it!
To top everything off, the attitude of this guy is just phenomenal. I haven't been on this forum for long, yet everyone I met was extremely friendly and helpful. But Margo is just something special. He really did EVERYTHING to do this experience as enjoyable for me as possible! To top everything off, I even got an easter egg which I didn't expect! An orange button that says "Margo's"
10/10, Thanks Margo!
To anyone reading this, whatever work needs to be done with your keyboard, ask Margo.

You will definitely not regret it!

Hello Mr Margo just wondering if I would be able to get a price on a few things doing if that possible, the list is as follows:

Poker II Switch swap to MX Blacks (I will be able to provide the springs and Black stem)

Clear switch tops installing (Would I order these and send them with the package or would you order them?)

finally White LED's installing in this with if possible SIP sockets to change them.

If you could let me know that would be super, also sent you a PM a week or so ago but I don't think you saw it just ignore the first one I sent it by mistake as I was typing :x

Hi!
I am highly interested in ordering custom mechanical keyboard. I'd like to have a TKL or, if won't be able to afford TKL, even smaller keyboard. I want the least expensive option (I don't mind if it is GH60, phantom or a keyboard with replaced switches). I am from Poland, so let me know if there are any problems with shipping. I've made project of keyboard where colour of switch describes type of Cherry MX switch (pinkish stands for MX Clear, grey for MX Tacticle Grey). Tell me about pricing and costs.
Looking forward to your reply  :)

Hello bro - I don't really provide the parts - people send me kits I just build them. I can do whatever switches you want - but once again, people normally send me these.

If you want something fast your best bet would be to get some bits from GON - his stuff is some of the best about, really nice to work with and very high quality. http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com

I can build anything you want though once you have the parts!

Ergodox diodes may be thru-hole or surface mount (SMD). Lots of people like SMD because it's cleaner.

All questions look as though they have been answered :D

there can be issues using a massdrop case with hole through diodes unless you trim the legs real short - otherwise they foul the case .

I like SMD as it means I get to use my hot air station :D

I would build your Dox Tyver, but, over all I think I want to stop building doxes, I hate them. I don't enjoy building them one bit! I don't know why that is.

I think these are potentially the best switches I've modded/lubed, I'm not saying any I've done in the past are bad, but these just seem sublime, though I've not capped the board as it's not mine, and I've already re-wrapped it in soft stuff, so you'll have to ask b7ad in a little while :)

Yea that's fine. If you're still in Brighton I may be able to get a friend to drop it off if that's ok. I need lube, white switch LEDs, switch stickers (don't mind colour) and clear switch tops, do you have any of those on hand?

these were for one of my boards, but I had a problem with the stickers brad sent, which were admittedly better - so I offered him these instead as I'm never going to get round to stickering a board for myself :D I'm not sure where these came from, well I got them from bunny, but this was last year some time, maybe even longer ago.

I just grabbed a few tracks from the playlist I was listening to when I made them! that's about 4.5 hours reduced to 10 minutes. I had already soldered all the diodes, so it starts with me clipping those - and I ended it before I put them all together, as I had to sand all the cases and then I couldn't be bothered to film more :)
