YES PLEASEE ever since GMK SNES has died there's been a hole in my heart for a set like this. A few things thooo~
A optional mod colored F-Row would be pleasing. ;D
Also, would you consider having a separate kit to get these colored "WASZ" and "[;'/" keys? Either in the SNES colors or the Super Famicon, or maybe even booooth?Show Image(https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/gmk-snes-keycap-set/MD-13741_20151217190218_06cda3fca108628d.jpg?auto=format&fm=jpg&fit=crop&w=1080&bg=f0f0f0&dpr=1)
Can SP do legends in the upper left like this for similar cost? Normally they’re centered.
Also, I’m a big fan of r3 profile because it supports various ortho/ergo layouts. But if you decide not to offer those sculpted is probably preferred.

Yes, the Filco caps pictured are actually made by SP. Those are stock legends with no extra cost (confirmed with SP).

The Famicon colours are probably not gonna make it... because they would have to be custom colours. Extra things like this are the reason why GMK SNES was so expensive and never hit MOQ.
I personally prefer WASD over WASZ, but I'm not closed on any idea.
Awesome, I'm looking forward to them! :thumb:+1 to R3

A barrage of renders is coming...
Love the idea, but I would have preferred to see a revival of GMK SNES (with extra add-on famicom color mods as Kokaloo mentioned) as opposed to SA SNES, as it would make a nice companion set to GMK DMG. I suspect the growth of the community would make it more viable this time around.
+1 Fully sculpted SA. No more GMK. Too much GMK. I love GMK, but at this point, I'm getting sick of seeing GMK.

EDIT: Meant SNES
Why did GMK SNES die, though? Looks to me that lots of people are into the colorway.Minimum order quantity for custom colors was much higher back when this ran and it ran at a bad time during other popular group buys/the holidays.

It's probably a little too fiddly to work, but a novelty with a simplified single-color version of the controller illustration from the Super Famicom box could be neat:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/nAy5IOG.png)

Let's stop messing around, poll:
Which SA profile do you prefer?

Looks like sculpted is in the lead.
Let's keep it going, make sure you have your say!
+1 Fully sculpted SA. No more GMK. Too much GMK. I love GMK, but at this point, I'm getting sick of seeing GMK.
Second. GMK is nice, quality stuff, but there are lots of profiles we need more of, MT3, SA, DSA and XDA stuff.

How do we make the SNES idea relevant again? (r.i.p. intelli78's GMK SNES (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=74182.0))
Considering the recent GMK DMG (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=98153.0) group buy, the SP SA profile seems like an obvious choice for a high quality set:
- Doubleshot ABS
- THICC caps
- SP's Pantone colour matching is on point
- Super wide selection of stock greys
- Profile choice: 112343 (sculpted) or 223333 (mostly flat)
- The (seldom used) Helvetica legends have that retro-modern aesthetic

Various considerations:
- A poll can help decide on the profile
- Kits are based on feedback, alphas + modifiers very likely
- Symbols like Win and Menu are not definitive, text options available
- SP now makes convex keys (1.25u and 3u at least), so a proper Minila kit is in order!
Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/cfVtfRW.jpg)
Also, let's keep this set as affordable as possible (SA is already a premium keycap):
- No Japanese characters
- No extra colours (ie. red, yellow, green, blue)
- CBC novelties (Cool But Concise)
- Helvetica legends do not induce extra cost; it's SP's default typeface

Also, any chance of a 7671 C/7672 C accents option for the spacebar and Enter keys?
One other suggestion would be to consider using GSZ for the legends on the alphas and GSL for the modifier/accent legends, so you keep gray with gray and purple with lavender. That would be closer to the color scheme on the actual SNES buttons. (I think the power and reset buttons were technically white text on purple, but I like the way the current color scheme looks on the F-keys a lot, and that avoids adding another color to the set.)
Any chance of using just the original SA fonts? I'm not sure if I'm a fan of these fonts. Big fan of the good old centered legends.

If this goes well would you consider doing one for SA NES?

MT3 or MDA SNES would be among my dream keysets. I'm down for SA though as a more realistic option. (It is a shame that MDA is only on like two sets ever - it's a very pleasing profile to type on.)

This is one of SP's default fonts.
The centered font is nice, but it doesn't fit the theme as well as the Filco/Helvetica font. Too vintage, imo.
If I get too many complaints, then I will launch another poll. (Even though I strongly feel like the Helvetica font is better for this set...)

I actually like the font, but think centred labels just look better, especially on spherical caps like SA. It's not a dealbreaker, but I think a centred Helvetica might look nicer.
Yes. The Filco SA caps are made by signature plastics. I have a set and they look great!
My initial idea was grey on grey alphas, like the original. But after trying out different combinations, I feel like purple on grey alphas looks better by making the set (subtly) more colourful. Again, I think that's important for boards without an F-row.

I think that would require new molds. So it would either be Helvetica, as shown, or the traditional centered Gorton Modified font.
Would you consider the “F1” colorway ( light purple legends on dark purple key) enter and esc keys in the base kit or as a separate kit ? This would make the set look really nice on layouts without the F row
Looking at something like this for Minila...Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/WSW6jcK.jpg)
Waiting for Filco's response about the 1.25u convex keys.
Worst case scenario, it'll be a 3u convex spacebar with regular Fn keys.
If we're adding WASD might as well do HJKL for the non-gaming 60%ers among us

Pretty sure that would step onto some copyright boundary. @iaman's controller logo suggestion is already pushing it.
Edit: In fact, I don't think either will be possible.
I'm open to artists proposing their own "retro gaming" designs and logos, provided they are original.

You're probably right... could maybe settle for using the Agency FB font for the legends or is that also risky?

As far as providing our designs, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot over the long weekend coming up. What's the standard format you guys work on for this type of design?

I'd love sculpted but a Colemak (and Colemak Mod DH) support is more important to me. So I vote either uniform R3 or sculpted with ColemakDH compatibility kit.

I honestly believe that some if not most who object the Helvetica font, upon seeing a set would immediately change their minds.
Similarly, I prefer the 223333 profile, because it provides a simple solution for Colemak layouts with no aesthetic difference and a typing feel that you will get used to. Although, once the poll is launched, there's no turning back... There is no weighed answer in the poll. I know that some who voted 223333 feel really strongly about it, while others have a slight preference and could live with both.
Whereas with the font, it's purely aesthetic and, like colour, is more subject to the designer's vision and visceral reaction upon seeing the samples, colour guides and so on.
TL;DR: If you feel strongly about the font, then please comment. Thanks!

The R2 "K" and the R4 "P" are for Norman.
If you add an R2 "M" and an R3 homing "A" to the MT3 Godspeed kit, it will also cover the Carpalx QGMLWY layout. The upcoming MT3 Serika's Typist kit is a good example. I'm kinda surprised but I actually like the use of the Filco font. Feels much more Nintendo-esque than the standard centered Gorton Modified. I'm kinda over SA as a profile but I'll probably be torn once this goes live since I was interested in GMK SNES.
As far as kits go, I'd like to see a purple number row kit for the 60% boards. Not sure if light or dark purple would look better (or maybe alternating a la the F row?).
PS. I'm thinking of renaming this set to "Super SA". What do you think?

MoreIt was brought to my attention that Mito is making some Cherry-style legends for SA Laser/Cyberdeck (https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/drop-mito-sa-laser-custom-keycap-set/FP/HxIq3XGGRpKeHjYTF9t6_Cyberdeck.jpg). That could also be a possibility, however I suspect (given that we have permission to use them) it would be much more expensive. There are no samples as we speak.I'd love SA SNES but I'd love to have the centered font text like other SA kits unless there's more updated renders.
There's actual photos (https://i.imgur.com/RkF1TCy.jpg) of the keycaps, so there can't be anything more updated than that... ;)
I know we're all used to the centered SA legends, but trust me, this style is much more Nintendo-like. It also makes the set stand out versus other SA sets.
Obviously, it's a matter of taste (see sculpted vs unsculpted). That being said, the Filco font is at the center of this design and I genuinely believe it's more fitting.
The process used in making the rendered legends is nearly 100% accurate. I could've easily used an approximation but went this way so that people know exactly what they're getting.
I don’t think the gaijin alpha style fits well with the Nintendo theme though they are Japanese.. the gaijin alphas are very busy , works very well for Laser, but for a Nintendo theme, the minimalism is a better route, IMHO. The Filco legends fit nicely. Would be even better if they were italicized, but oh well...

I think it's for Qwpr (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#/media/File:Screenshot_2014-09-05_14.46.43.png)?
The R2 "K" and the R4 "P" are for Norman.
If you add an R2 "M" and an R3 homing "A" to the MT3 Godspeed kit, it will also cover the Carpalx QGMLWY layout. The upcoming MT3 Serika's Typist kit is a good example. Zambumon lists the covered layouts here - https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=100489.msg2757949#msg2757949Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/PMpfDXH.png)

Let me know what you think. :thumb:Literally, the only thing I'd consider changing (and I think someone already suggested it) was to change the font to the more Mac-like font used in some other keycaps. That seems more SNES-y. But even as-is, this set is just great.
Basically, SP only makes two fonts: the usual centered one you see on most sets, and this Filco font.
Anything else will cost an astronomical amount and is out of the question.
This is fantastic.
Any chance to add to the power pack:
R1 1u reset for split backspace
R2 1.5 reset for HHKB
or whichever is more popular
So the YXBA kit got me thinking - If I wanted to replicate the controller's look, having the light and deep purple for Y, X, B, and A will look odd because of where those keys are relative to each other in just about any layout.
Solution: why not make the YXBA set blanks instead? On a QWERTY layout, having H and I be light purple would make sense and M and L would be dark purple. But if I have an alternate layout (I do, ColemakDH for LIFE) the replaced keys would be K and U and H and I, respectively. If they are blanks, then it won't matter what letters I replace them with.
The YXBA keys were meant more for the 65% right column, or filling the top and bottom rows in general. I will make that clearer in a future render. The extra R4 B is for the controller pattern {;[/'} (see OG Gamer pack). Lastly, of course one may use them as actual alpha keys for a more chaotic look... :))
Three key suggestions/requests:
- OG Gamer Pack: Add a dark X key to allow for a left-tilted D-pad cross
- POWER Pack: 2.75U R4 SELECT key in case you want to use them in place of both Shift keys
- POWER Pack: 1.75U R3 TURBO key for Caps Lock (because what is Caps Lock except TURBO for letters?)
This set continues to look amazing, and I can't wait for the GB.
EDIT: Maybe also a mod-grey option for the POWER pack keys as well? The darker gray matches the actual controller buttons better, but if you are using a combination of standard mods and POWER keys, the contrast between the grays may look odd. This is especially true if you end up using any of them for left-side mods alongside the OG Gamer Pack WASD cluster, which is currently the same dark gray.
Wait so if I wanted to fit a WKL TKL, I would have to get 3 kits just to do so? Any chance the tkl kit can be combined with the specialty kit?
Here are some kit proposals. These are 100% not final and will change; either combined, morphed, re-combined, deleted, and so on...
Let me know what you think. :thumb:

I really like these! I love that the TLK includes Function, Meta, 1.75 Control, 1.75 Shift, etc. Very nice touches. Would it be possible to include a 1.25 "Command" key for Mac users (akin to the Windows icon key)?
I love the Power Pack and the Super Pack. I need both. :)
One potential kit idea to consider is a "controller kit". I'm thinking some R2/R3/R4 blanks to allow the alphas to convey an SNES controller aesthetic. For example, some dark gray blanks (one R2 and three R3) so WASD could be swapped out to look like a D-pad, and some light purple blanks (one R2 one R3), and dark purple blanks (one R3 one R4) so that H, I, M, L could be swapped out to look like YXBA). Just something to consider. :)
Looking forward to joining the group buy later this year!
It feels a bit cheap offering blanks, even though they are more versatile.
It feels a bit cheap offering blanks, even though they are more versatile.
Could these blanks be included in the OG Gamer Pack, perhaps?
More likely in the minibars kit, with the other blanks.
I am taking note of a possible need for more 1u blanks.
Quick question:
Does anyone not use homing keys on SA profile... ?
Any chance of using just the original SA fonts? I'm not sure if I'm a fan of these fonts. Big fan of the good old centered legends.
Love this one!
I'd love sculpted but a Colemak (and Colemak Mod DH) support is more important to me. So I vote either uniform R3 or sculpted with ColemakDH compatibility kit.
Exactly this. Would prefer R3, but give me a ColemakDH option and you can shut up and take my money.
i will absolutely join if there's a sculpted colevrak kit
Same here... gimme dat Mod DH and I'm in for the sculpted SA.

Any requests for keyboards on which to render SA SNES?
I got a few in mind, but suggestions would be great. ;D
Would love to see a 65% board that included the YXBA down the right column, and making use of the Start/Select/Super keys along the bottom row... :)

Got a link to the Alpha?
Nm! Got it
Anyone know what case in the first render that is?
Nm! Got it
I'm considering doing a minivan board with this set, if you're still looking for render requests. :)
Also, one minor nit on the POWER PACK kit: on the SNES system, the "Eject" button was the middle gray color (SP ABS GG), not the dark gray. Would love to see the color fixed to be the correct middle-gray (SP ABS GG) for the Eject key (1u, R2 and R3) in the Power Pack. Additionally, it might be nice for that kit to also include a purple 1u R2 "Reset" key that folks could use as an Escape key. :)
Also, I’m a big fan of r3 profile because it supports various ortho/ergo layouts. But if you decide not to offer those sculpted is probably preferred.

Could we extend the "OG Gamer Pack" to include light purple H and I keys, and dark purple M and J keys, to truly accent the alphas for the classic "controller look"?
You mean H I / M L ?

Not decided on which purple to choose...
The SP chips are still in the mail (along with DSA Scientific).
After some thought, I would like to include a purple/lavender number row. Either in a 60% extension kit (including the Minila keys) or with the function row keys in a separate kit from TKL.

I like this idea. Also - I cant believe I didn’t notice this before - can we please include an R2 1.5u backspace key for those of us who do split backspace (HHKB style)?

99% half sculpt (223333) at this point.
Pricing and looks isn't doing it, for sculpted. We stay true to the Filco caps.

Since the profile is decided, maybe update the OP?
We need a "show your support" banner for this. BTW, people are asking for a re-run of GMK-SNES over on drop as recently as July. Not sure what their policy is on linking to GH, but you may want to direct them this way.
In any case, Drop owns geekhack... :)) I'm not closed on the idea of Massdrop picking this up. I did not know this. Well ok then.
The GMK set doesn't worry me. GMK DMG just ran and barely made it. GMK makes it difficult to do child kits, which are necessary here.

I didn't mean this set has competition, I meant that people not-on-geekhack may be interested in this set since they've been asking Drop for a similar one that Drop hasn't/won't re-run.
Ez pass now that sculpted is out of the question. I wanted sculpted so bad.
Can you throw in 2 1.5u R2 keys to cover Ergos and boardwalk?
Can you throw in 2 1.5u R2 keys to cover Ergos and boardwalk?
That's a tough one. If we were to look into an Ergo kit, what is the consensus on blanks versus legends?
Definitely interested in this. I'd like to see a function row available in the light/dark gray color scheme like the alphas and modifiers. That way we have a little more control with how we want to accent the boards this set is applied to. Other than that I love it.
is there renders for the gamer pack? I feel like the bright colors will stand out too much. but I really want that gamer pack just for the darker alphas
Also will there be canadian vender? I see you are from Canada??? Let me not pay import tax this time plz :)
Any chance of seeing an ergodox kit for this set?

Has anyone suggested matching the font of all legends to that of the Power pack?
Icon mods and I'll give my Kidney and then some.

I'm pretty sure SP doesn't do icon mods. At least not for ABS.
Not sure if this was mentioned, but I feel like this would look hella nice on aRAMAWilba Thermal.

SA abyss had custom icon mods. Not aware of any standard symbols in ABS besides those though.
MT3 doesn't bother me. Just hope we can get a Colevrak+ kit now that it's not a uniform profile.
i like mt3 too, not reason to pay extra for sa since both needs learning curve. just hope that there will be changes in the purple rows. I hope purple will be just an accent in esc or enter..

It's been a while... sorry about that!
There are major changes coming to this set. I made the decision to switch profile from SA to MT3 (with the preliminary approval of Drop).
MT3 is a keycap profile created by Matt3o (https://matt3o.com/) for Drop. Why the change?
- Delivery of Susuwatari (https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-matt3o-mt3-susuwatari-custom-keycap-set?mode=guest_open) is imminent, and Drop is now able to produce MT3 doubleshot ABS keycaps.
- SA/MT3 SNES requires doubleshot legends, due to its light-on-dark colour combinations.
- Customizability plays a big part. Offering many child kits will be easier on a platform like Drop, which reaches a wider audience.
- SA is a premium profile, indeed. With SP we were looking at very high MOQs. MT3 will be less expensive.
- Mixed feedback about the Filco font. MT3 has centered legends and strikes the right balance of retro and modern.
- Poll showed a preference for a sculpted profile.
- Access to samples!
Genesis: I try to listen to everyone's opinions and suggestions. Feedback revolved around the legends and profile. MT3 was suggested by a few people on reddit and Drop. The idea grew on me once I realized that it solved of these issues. I played around with 3D models; the colours, shapes and font work really well together.
More (kits and renders) to come! What do you think?
rip sa i'm out

So... ergo/ boardwalk support? I'm totally in for that. Also, would this GB be happening on Drop?

Going for a blank Ergo kit (like Susuwatari). Would happen on Drop, since they own MT3.

Sweet. FYI, since you're so graciously aiming to support Colevrak, can you make sure it's Colevrak+, which supports a lot of Colemak variants, Workman, etc? I ask because Drop sometimes only supports vanilla Colemak and Dvorak in their colevrak kits. An example of vanilla colevrak is their Domikey Crisis Colevrak kit (https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/domikey-abs-doubleshot-sa-crisis-keycap-set/FP/Z58o2wNtSSih7T3WSuEG_SA%20CRISIS%20COLEVRAK(1).jpg). And example of the extended Colevrak kit would be in their GMK Pulse (https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/drop-mito-gmk-pulse-custom-keycap-set/FP/yzwuPEIrQnGs9WALzN3V_5%20-%20colevrak.png) run. In other words, Crisis only supports the white keys in Dvorcol's pic below, whereas ideal support (and what they did for GMK Pulse, absent a homing A) would include all the keys in the pic below.
You're a good egg, Voodoo. Again, just brought it up since Drop specifically is hit or miss on this. Appreciate it!
The switch to MT3 is intresting - not a profile I know much about, but looking it up it seems similar enough to SA - can't find a decent side on comparison of the profile for each row anywhere, but I'm still interested :)
I prefer the centered text too, so that's a nice change (I'd like to see a number row with just centered numbers - no symbols, but aware we probably don't want _too_ many variations!)
Base kit + Ergo/dactyl blanks kit and I'm happy :)

If we're missing a few keys, I don't think it will be a problem adding them.
Switch to MT3 is nice- I personally mostly like it over SA at this point, except for the texture, where I prefer a smoother SA type texture.
Seems like you are targeting this for double shot abs MT3, and not dyesub PBT. The only thing I’d call out is that the mt3 susuwatari is the first and only set using double shot tooling , and it hasn’t come out yet.
Maybe massage the timelines so that people have a fair understanding what that’s gonna look/feel like before going all in ?
I think massdrop said they will be shipping those out in the next couple of months...

Unofficial estimated group buy date is Q2 2020.
This not being the first MT3 doubleshot set makes it much less of a gamble. The kinks will be worked out by then.
The final texture is still uncertain, but there are photos of samples on matt3o's blog (https://matt3o.com/prototypes-at-last/) and Drop's Susuwatari discussion (https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-matt3o-mt3-susuwatari-custom-keycap-set/talk/2509510) page. ABS will smooth out over time, undoubtedly.
Photekq also helped in the making of the keyset
So, let this be clear: MT3 is NOT a Signature Plastic SA clone! It has been designed from scratch, we created the 3D models by hand piece by piece, we did not 3D scan an existing set. Our CAD expert, Tom “photekq” Radley, is not only incredibly talented with Solidworks but he is also a member of community. His understanding and love for mechanical keyboards were crucial in designing this set and I’m grateful he accepted to be part of this project.https://matt3o.com/about-mt3-profile-and-devtty-set/

I will post a comparison showing each row.
OTTOMH, the angles are:
- R0: 13 deg
- R1: 7.5 deg
- R2: 5.5 deg
- R3: -5.5 deg
- R4: -13 deg
- R5: 0 deg
Anyone know what MT3 double-shot convex sizes are available? And what R5 sizes?
The option for an R5 bottom row for the kits would be nice.
To clarify, bottom row will be R5.
Anyone know what MT3 double-shot convex sizes are available? And what R5 sizes?
I asked those exact same questions to Elbert at Drop:
- They are technically able to do R5 keys, but since there are none in Susuwatari, no tooling was created for it.
- Possible convex sizes are:
Show Image(https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/massdrop-x-matt3o-mt3-susuwatari-custom-keycap-set/FP/L5SDtQK6TrCK6mTmENVs_susuwatari%20spacebars-01.jpg)

Thanks for the info!
- Susuwatari's Ergodox kit below contains some R5: 1U, 1.5U, and maybe 2U.
- If convex keycaps were always marked "UC" there'd be no ambiguity. There have been "Spacebar" kits in some other GBs containing a few non-convex keycaps. Others have called these kits "Spacebars & -keys."
This is perfect for MT3. And I love MT3. But I hate drop. Won’t support them and sadly matt3o thought it was a good idea to give them the ownership of the profile. Drop nazis
Hey all, just curious if this is still in development. I would definitely get down on this set but it doesn't look like there's been much activity for the last month or so.

MT3 Doubleshot production is delayed even more due to coronavirus, so this in turn will be delayed. https://matt3o.com Matt3o occasionally posts updates about how it's going.
I want it!
I am a bit confused though: Will it be in SA or MT3?
I want it in SA but if that's not an option, I may settle for MT3.
Definitely getting it at some point if in SA though.

To my knowledge the set was originally going to be in a half-sculpted SA, but was switched to MT3. I don't think there are any plans for a SA SNES at the time. (I'm not OP, just sharing my understanding of the situation.)
Edit: Oh @J3ff_Leopard beat me to the answer
It was originally planned to be in SA but has pivoted to MT3 Doubleshot. Currently waiting for Susuwatari to finish.

I think end should be fine in specialty. Having r2/r3 pgup/pgdn in the tkl kit would add compatibility for the most popular 65% and 75% layouts with fn next to shift. It would also need a r1 Del. Maybe move that over from Specialty?
The nav keys are giving me a headache, so I might move most of them to the TKL kit... including R0/R1 Del. While leaving only the big and odd keys for Specialty.

Heck, that works too. Just make it a mod kit then? My only other problem is that I want like every single accent kit.
Could we get a couple (at least 2) 1u R3 novelties somewhere, like in the Power Pack kits? I'm an ortho user and don't use escape or tab in R3 on the left side or ' or enter on the right.
Two 1u R3 novelties would be more flexible for people, e.g., some people use R3 for control, caps lock, FN, etc.

I like the idea of moving the R1 Del, R2 PgUp, R3 PgDn to the TKL kit as a 65% user myself. At the very least I'd want them in the Specialty Kit because otherwise I'd have to buy Ortho/40s which would be more expensive for only a couple keys. And I like that the Accent kit has both the F row and numrow. Gamer kit is solid too.

Would love to see some more 1u R3 novelties as well.
Also if possible a 1u R3 Ctrl key in the ortho kit :)
Totally didn't even think/realize about the reversible R2/R3, but text would be upside down if it wasn't an icon/blank.
Noted. Will add R3 keys for ortho. @psxndc, what keys are you using on R3, if you don't mind me asking?
One thing I want to take advantage of is the reversible R2/R3 profile. Still thinking about a solution.
Also, I suppose blanks are okay but generic legends or novelties are preferred? That being said, Ergodox mod kit would be blank.
Great kitting choices! It looks like you considered pretty much every cool, obscure layout out there.
I would keep all of the red outlined keys as is :)
Thank you. They will probably be moved and not removed. ;)
I just noticed that R1 Esc is missing from TKL... full sculpt is hard.

Keeping them where they are would be preferential even to moving them, imo. I think the current setup strikes a great balance between versatility, layout coverage and kit size. :)
Speaking of the TKL mods, have you considered dropping or moving Menu (esp. the 1u)? Seems just a tad redundant, since Fn usually covers for that key quite well.
Certainly works for me. And to be fair, the buttons on the SNES controller aren't themselves labeled like the PS and Xbox controller buttons are.
Thanks for adding the Power Pack kit specifically for 40's/ortho.
One thing I'd like to know from others is if they prefer start and select on the same row. That way it can match the SNES controller. Also, if not start and select on r5, I'd like to see some novelty text on r5, esp. for ortho considering it has at least 10, 1u r5 mods. Staggered 40's does not have as many r5 mods, but it'd be nice to put some novelty text caps there as well.
I love this, but I just checked, I want 7(!) of the kits, this would be hella expensive... still, I might join this, maybe with less decoration. I'd like to get the 4 coloured arrow keys like in the new banner render but the OG gamer kit is otherwise useless and looks like it's going to be super expensive... Anyway this is my second most favourite set in IC rn, looking forward to the ABS MT3 reviews. (If it turns out something with ABS MT3 is really wrong, would you consider switching to KAT?)
Love the Ortho/40% and the Power Pack changes.
Are the alphas white or a light grey?

I agree. Start/Select were originally on the bottom row. I removed them because the kits were getting too large. Some kits may slim down or get split up. Don't worry, it will all fall into place once I get more feedback.Love the Ortho/40% and the Power Pack changes.

The colour I am using for the alphas is currently: https://www.pantone.com/color-finder/PQ-14-4103TCX
For which you can get a plastic chip. I only have chips for the purple colours at this moment (they are expensive).
It's similar to SP's GTL but a tad lighter (like GSL): https://pimpmykeyboard.com/template/images/absgray.jpg (I have samples for both)
TL;DR: Not as dark as the PAL version nor as purple-grey as the NA version, but it provides good contrast with the dark purple legends without being too white.

Very VERY excited for this. Looks great in a spherical profile. Keep up the great work. I could have missed it, but have you released any potential vendors?
It was brought up by @cijanzen on keebtalk that the alphas may look monochrome on certain devices, in the renders.Would appreciate if accent kit was moved to alphas and the the current number and F row moved to monochrome alphas.
To be clear, the alphas legends are dark purple. Was anyone expecting grey on grey alphas? Otherwise, a monochrome options could be nice.
This sounds like it comes from a 60s user, having both rows purple would look awful. But for the F-keys, I agree those could be in base, I'd guess the majority of people using this set with F keys would want these accents as they're pretty central to the theme. I don't think the same is true for the majority of users with a number row, thoughIt was brought up by @cijanzen on keebtalk that the alphas may look monochrome on certain devices, in the renders.Would appreciate if accent kit was moved to alphas and the the current number and F row moved to monochrome alphas.

It's MT3, so Drop will be the vendor.

I'm tottally in. This needs an ergo kit!
i have an idea, how about a kit consists of w,a,s,d,x as dark gray, v,g,n,j also as dark gray and l,p,/,' as purple? so that we can visualize an snes controller on the keyboard? :D :D ( will look perfect for ortho owners but staggered would good too)
Another opinion is that I prefer to see as much purple as we can see on snes controller. Full F row of purple seems too extreme.
The accent f-row was originally in the TKL kit but some people asked for the normal f-row. If we add the monochrome alphas, then we have to split the f-row anyway.

I first saw this IC over at Keebtalk so didn't realize this was the case. Call me different but I actually like the purple F-row in the base better. I get people love monochrome but come on, if every set is monochrome what is the fun in that? My preference would be purple F-row in base kit, monochrome F-row as a separate kit, similar to how Oblivion has an entire Monochrome mod kit for people who love it that way. But the base has to stay true to the vision and inspiration of the set.
And last but not least, super homing kit please! (another reminder)
I would only buy an alpha set if it also comes with a compatible colevrak+ kit, and I did not expect the legends to be black from the renders. I think I'd buy the purple one if there was an option between 2 otherwise equal legend colors, but black legends would probably also look good.

But yeah, I think swapping the normal f-row for the accent f-row is a good idea.
I’m just saying all you need is 2 1.5u R2 keys and you will cover boardwalk. I’m contingent on that. I mean 2 keys is like 2$Can you throw in 2 1.5u R2 keys to cover Ergos and boardwalk? That's a tough one. If we were to look into an Ergo kit, what is the consensus on blanks versus legends?
+1 for ergo. i'd prefer blank or non-specific legends (L, R, A, B, X, Y, start, select, power, reset, etc.) for the 1.5 modifiers, if possible.

I would also like to see two more R5 1.5u keys to cover the bottom corners. Might be cool to add them in different colors like the purple or dark gray. Might also be nice to get additional 1u keys for inside mods for boards like the Boardwalk or RGBKB's Mun and Sol2 where you can replace the vertical 1.5u keys with 1u. I guess I could just get the Button's kit and live with them not matching the alpha's row profile. Speaking of the Buttons kit, how difficult would it be to add colored buttons in more than one profile? Like Blue R1, Green R2, Red R3, Yellow R4; or Blue R2 Green and Red R3, Yellow R4; or Blue R2 Green Red Yellow R3.? That way people could also use them for the extra mods on 65% boards, and people who are on boards that don't have a [;'/ cluster on their boards could have the right buttons as well. I know adding a bunch of keys jacks up the price though. Just a thought.+1 for ergo. i'd prefer blank or non-specific legends (L, R, A, B, X, Y, start, select, power, reset, etc.) for the 1.5 modifiers, if possible.
+1 on this. Normally I do not like blank mods because it makes it look like a cheap aftermarket thing, but I think in this case it matches the blank controller buttons. Having SNES themed legends would be really neat. I always have to skip ergo kits that have specific legends because they are so far off of the mod layout I use on Ergo. I like non-specific legends for the aesthetics. I am not sure it would be cost prohibitive, or maybe just time consuming, but having extra 1.5u colored mods would be awesome. Like right side mods would be BGRY or light purple x2 + Dark Purple x2, and the left mods could be all dark gray. I don't mean to be difficult by adding all of these suggestions, but I feel like ergo is a great opportunity to mimic SNES controllers because of the symmetrical design. The thing that is kind of a must-change for me is the addition of the 1.5u keys for the bottom corners on the Ergo kits.

yes, can never have enough purple! :thumb:
btw the POWER pack TKL kit has different font to the TKL kit and also different to Susuwatari font. so new molds?
Yes, it's a novelties kit and the font is based on the Super Nintendo font. Otherwise Susu and SNES have the same legends and font to keep the tooling minimal.

Why abs mt3 and not pbt mt3? Do people forget that for some reason abs is acceptable on GMK even though it shouldn’t. I mean it still boggles my mind that the most popular manufacturer is the most expensive, least adaptive, worst options for kits, and thanks to being ABS has a shelf life based on use. I own a few GMK sets.... for show. Shine literally is disgusting. If I sat down at a keyboard with shine I’d feel like I needed gloves to touch those nasty greasy chips and I’m far from a germaphobe. Lesss bring this back to PBT as is proper for a keyset you want to type on and last more than a few months.

Hey man, this set keeps getting better and better!
Love the 40's kit, but noticed something on both that and the mini bars kit. Only one 2u spacebar, any chance we can get 2 in these kits? 2x2u ortho is amazing, would hate not to have that support with this set being as comprehensive as it is!
is there any plan for a GB soon? this looks awesome.
May 7 2020 update:
Latest set of samples are here and have been measured and reviewed. A few of the legends are still off by just a smidgeon. We've got some feedback for changes to a handful of caps but the majority of the keycaps are going into production. Latest update/estimate is that they'll all be done by June 5th. As usual, more updates to follow as we keep moving through this process. I'll try to get some photos to post as well.
would you consider providing a Canadian or Asian proxy?
I updated the kits (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=101187.0#post_kits). Changes:Bye Vim keys :'(
- Added Ergo 1.5u R5 keys
- Added RGB buttons
- Added RGB WASD (removed Vim keys)
- Added R5 keys to Power Pack (removed R4/Shifts)

Thank you for adding 1.5u R5 keys! I am definitely in on this kit when it goes to GB.
I'll be picking up Alphas, Ergo, Gamer Pad and/or Buttons for sure and maybe Colevrak and Mini Barsx2 for convex 2u spaces. Tempted to get Power Pack as well.
is there a planned date or month for GB?

it seems Susuwatari production prototypes are awesome (http://"https://matt3o.com/susuwatari-production-prototypes-tldr-they-are-awesome/"),
I can't wait for MT3 SNES :D
I just stumbled across some news. Drop is planning to issue coupons to those who purchased MT3 Susuwatari:

Why? Is it due to multiple delay of that particular purchase? The people who purchased the Susuwatari set, are they getting their order plus the coupon or the whole order got canceled? I can't tell by just reading that post.
I really hope that we start to see some progress on this. It's really been walking in circles for a while now. I would hate to see a failure to launch with such a cool keycap set.

It's probably a little too fiddly to work, but a novelty with a simplified single-color version of the controller illustration from the Super Famicom box could be neat:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/nAy5IOG.png)

Yeah I'm really about this.
Awesome looking set. A lot to love here already but I have a couple of points/questions:
- R3 "1.75u "Fn" key in the extras - could this not be "Function"? I always thinking Fn looks silly on such a large keycap, draws the eye in a bad way.
- Spacebars - would be good to confirm which sizes are convex. Unless they all are :)
- Spacebars - what profile will be used? AFAIK MT3 has both R4 and R5 spacebars, at least /dev/tty did.
- Hmm. You may be confusing bottom row profile with spacebar profile. This set has R5 (flat) bottom row, and there is only one spacebar profile.

There were very definitely two spacebar profiles in R1/R2 /dev/tty, and it appears in R3's kits as well - see here: https://cdn.matt3o.com/uploads/2020/01/base-kit.png from https://matt3o.com/getting-ready-for-dev-tty2/

Okay, I see what you mean.
The samples I was sent only had an angled "in between" spacebar, ie. not as steep as R4, but not flat.
Will look into it.

It's a fairly common practice to run GMK spacebars upside down so the thumb hits a flat face rather than a prominent edge. What does the majority of MT3 users prefer: R5 flat, R4 normal, or R4 upside down?

Photo of upside down GMK spacebar posted on Drop by baein:Show Image(https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/img_thread/1587455835824.223412096988673114718071-KakaoTalkPhoto20200421163729346.jpg)
R5 flat > R4 normal > R4 upside down
Imagine this with R5...

Hi!
- If I recall correctly, this is what Susuwatari uses (FN), so I went with it to not require a new mold. Are you saying that you prefer "FUNCTION" over "FN" or something else entirely?
- Yes, I will note convex keys in a future revision of the kit renders. For now, you can zoom in and see which is which. ;)
Hmm. You may be confusing bottom row profile with spacebar profile. This set has R5 (flat) bottom row, and there is only one spacebar profile.
I only got the PBT samples (for modelling). I completely missed the fact that there was two spacebar profiles in dev/tty. Thanks @Joshimitsu for pointing that out.
are these PBT or ABS ?
Just got my Susuwatari.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/nUlzLoo.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/tGFEzot.jpg)
I think it's safe to say that SNES will do just fine in MT3 :thumb:
I was excited for this, but the R5 bottom row kind of kills it for me. Sure, flat keys are great when you use you thumbs on them, but when you have to press them with your pinkys, the R5 angle is absolutley more slippery than the R4 one. I wish something would run that would just offer the best of both worlds. Since I'm looking for something I can use in games where I'll need to hold Ctrl down a lot, the R5 bottom row is just not going to cut it for me.
Here's hoping Drop gets it right.Awwwww, that's adorable.

Any news on a start date for the GB?
:DDAny news on a start date for the GB?
I'm working on a big update post!
Not sure if it’s been brought up yet, but you only have a single 1.75u spacebar in the 40s kit. The 40s boards which use a 1.75u spacebar use two of them and not one (prime_L, JD45, JD40).
I recommend adding the second 1.75u spacebar into the 40s kit or dropping it entirely.

While this is mostly true, the Vortex Core uses one 1.75u spacebar. There's the spacebar kit, but I guess another white 1.75u could be added.
I am DEFINITELY interested in this set, and while I am likely not gonna use it for my Drop Shift, since I like backlit kits too much to give that up, will this be compatible out of box with the Shift's 1800 layout?

You’re right, there is the vortex core. I haven’t heard that layout in a while.
The other benefit of the additional 1.75u spacebar is that it can be used as the minivan Lock key (albeit convex instead of concave).
Edit: I’d actually remove the additional 1.75u from the accent minibars kit. IMO. Having the single accent key there just for vortex core is a pretty big inclusion for just that one layout.
This is the single most anticipated set for me. The wait time is killing me ;)Haven't ordered any GB through Drop before, but ordered a pair of headphones. Delivery-wise, it took about a week to get shipped to the Netherlands and then another week to get to Denmark and through customs I believe. That's about half a year ago.
BTW rather important question to folks located in Europe. How's your experience with Drop?
Having read how long and bumpy the GB has been in case of Susuwatari (even inside US), at this very moment I'm convinced that obtaining this set via Drop will be a pure lottery, and paying them money is as good as gambling. Not to mention that taxes on top of already high priced product will hang us dry (it's only because I'm crazy about this set, that I decided to go for it).
We're hoping to release 3 more MT3 sets in October/November, Black on White, White on Black, and Carmillo. All three are subject to potential delays, i.e. no promises!
Any updates on the timeline for this project?
I'm guessing it's getting pushed back a bit more?
From the "Susuwatari MT3 Keycap Coupon Thread":QuoteWe're hoping to release 3 more MT3 sets in October/November, Black on White, White on Black, and Carmillo. All three are subject to potential delays, i.e. no promises!
This was on Sept 25th, when MT3 3277 went live btw.
It would be nice to be able to get two 2u spacebars without having to buy multiple kits. There are many keyboards (especially 40% orthos) that support two 2u spacebars. Please consider adding an additional 2u spacebar to every kit that already has a 2u spacebar. (It would be great if they were there same color too.)
It would also be nice to have two 2u (convex) spacebars in the Ergo kit for Boardwalks. I think there are people who would use convex 2u spacebar keys on traditional Ergodox thumb keys layouts as well.
Any updates on if this set will still be offered by the end of the year? I was hoping to use my free MT3 set coupon for Susuwatari on this but I'm worried that this won't run in time with the coupon supposedly expiring on December 31st

This project has been put on hold. There is no ETA.
Been looking forward to it for several months now. Even posted a message on Discord already some time ago. This set is a gem. Whatever it is you're gonna do with it voodoo, best of luck.
On a sidenote - MT3 doubleshot being pretty fresh topic for the community seemingly, would you be keen to say a few words what are the main obstacles? Is it the plastic changing it's properties with certain dyes, contrast/sharpness aspects, mould injection or something else? Asking just out of curiosity.
Also, I joined the party a bit late, and if I'm not mistaken this set started as a Signature Plastics SA project - is that right? Despite stating on Discord that SA is probably no go for me, do you have any renders of it left? After all maybe it is worth it to ask community if they'd be interested in SA or, even better, KAT run, followed by target MT3 whenever you come to terms with all the challenges around it?
I'm guessing for both runs you'd have a decent numbers of potential buyers.
Take care

About MT3 doubleshot, if you look at all the new sets, you will notice a pattern... (without going into detail) it's cheaper and faster to re-use these kit arrangements.
No, I don't have any renders of SA R3 with centered legends. I do believe this set should be ABS, so that narrows down potential manufacturers.
To be honest, in the current climate, my interest in making keysets has waned quite a bit.
I'll ask a few vendors what their schedule looks like. If it's not too complicated, I'd do either SP SA or EnjoyPBT (ABS). Otherwise I'll have to pass the torch.

Any updates on if you'll be continuing with it? MT3 Cyber just had some interesting additions from MiTo (Vim keys, novelties), but not sure if he has some kind of deal with Drop in which they eat some of the cost or something. Would love to see this in any form though; if I had any GB experience, I would be willing to help.
Hey, thanks. I'm not sure if we're looking at the same thing, but the Cyberdeck novelties are the same as Susuwatari's. To be honest, I'm not really interested in remaking Susu/Cyber in SNES colours...
I'll be getting a quote for (SP) SA SNES, centered legends, R3 (or 223333) profile.

Personally speaking, I don't know that SA is particularly appealing as a choice to me here (KAT might be an interesting choice, although obviously who can say what's going on over at Keyreative at this point) and I'd be *extremely* happy to get MT3 in a colorway I actually like (since the others... aren't so much my jam) even if it didn't have all the fun interesting novelties you've worked on for this.

Maybe consider reaching out to RamaWorks about getting this made in KATE form? They seem eager for collabs and this would be a great way to launch this set as an alternative to MT3 and dealing with (mass)drop

Rama has been delusional about their profile since the very beginning. I think one would need to develop some deformity in his fingers to consider this profile comfortable. It looks wrong too.
Rama has build themselves a big respect among the community - and rightfully so. But I'd like to see the feedback on such profile in case someone fairly unknown would come up with it.
I'm an advocate of traditional fully sculpted SA here / or KAT (but I'd like to see how some of their reverse-dyesub sets come up this year first).
Cheers
R3 no go for me :(

I just looked that...... thing... up. My god, what an abomination. My new most hated keycap, by far.
Elliptical? Really? Ugh
Rama is usually way more minimal and aesthetic then that... I am much disappoint.
I know y'all want sculpted but R3 makes so much sense... it's a customization dream.
Plus inherent Colevrak support.
I don't think there can be a fully-sculpted Colevrak kit. Too many kits already, and very expensive :(
Do you mean all the key caps have an SA profile of R3?
May i ask why render picture still MT3?
Do you mean all the key caps have an SA profile of R3?
They do. There are a couple sets like that: Mito’s Mitospeed and Cyberdeck, SP’s ice caps.
Every time I see a uniform profile SP set run, I really hope that SP will find it in their heart to make 1u convex spacebars, and then they never ever make them. I doubt it would be possible here, but manifesting it through a geekhack post couldn't hurt lol.
That's awesome to hear that the issue lies in something solveable. I've asked SP about making short convex spacebars and they just haven’t had the time or man-power to make the tooling. It's something to look forward to in the future.
Has no one made a MT3 clone yet?
Apparently, SP has new convex molds for small spacebars (2u, 2.25u and 2.75u)!
Hi Voodoo6k,
RAMA has recenly released KATE (http://"https://rama.works/kate") keycap,
do you think it's possible to collaborate with him to make "KATE SNES"? ;D
so is row 3 the final call?
This set still happening ? I love the colors and love SA
If this is full r3 sa i’m super stoked. :) uniform r3 sa is my favorite profile by far~why?

Couple of years ago I'm pretty sure it was around 10-12 months from SP, it might changed in last years.

ya it's a lot less than that now
pls have this boi sculptedThis. Uniform SA is just... No.
This in sculpted SA would be nice. A good alternative to finding Hyperfuse.
If you want Hyperfuse, go for HSA, amazing set.

How does HSA feel compared to SA. I noticed it is much shorter. I think my next MX set would be SA Chocolatier for that brown/brown vintage look. There are so many sets from the early 2010s that would be cool to see rerun. The hobby was just so small then compared to now where some of those old sets feel like "lost media".
Does it make me less of a keyboard fan if I don't enjoy front legends? That is a solid set for anyone looking for brown SA keycaps!

I went wild and got myself those Ducky laser engraved keycaps and managed to type on them but after a while I felt so tired for some weird reason and had to get back on legends.
