Hi iMav,

right now the minimum word length in search is 4. Can this be reduced?

Thanks.

Yes, it can.  Did you have a lower number you'd like to request?  Or were you just curious?  :)

:-)

I always bump into that limitation during search. Many model numbers are just three digits like G80, M15, etc. Some are just 2, for ex. M2.

So, 2 would be fine, I guess.

Thanks.

1 might be best so "Model M" is allowed.

Enjoy!

(I also made a change that should make xsphat quite pleased...I'll let him figure out what it is)

Thank you!

(off to search...)

Edit: looks like it doesn't work, for ex. 7g gives 0 hits. Maybe a re-index is neccessary?

Doah!  Even though I changed vB's minimum search length, I needed to reconfigure mysql since I use the mysql fulltext search.

Should be good to go now.

Another comment on searching.

If you click on "Search" on the top navigation bar, there is the option to search via Google.  This is not a site-specific search, but a full google search.  However, if you preface your search with "site:geekhack.org", you'll get results back just for this site.

The results are also wrapped in the geekhack template, so it is kinda cool.

For instance, try using the google search and put in the following:
