I fixed my blackbird's underglow and recorded it there, maybe it'll give you some insight. I'd usually try to put more some brainpower into helping you out, but I'm swamped with work right now.
Note that I did fix it incorrectly, because I wired the data lines wrong and will correct that soon. The LEDs are WS2812Bs.

Now I’m thinking maybe I should get some new LEDs to test...thanks for the detailed repair walkthrough!!

You mean O2D right? I did what you said, and still no underglow. I went ahead for more testing: I used a 3mm LED to touch the contact point of each underglow LED, and it lit up(as shown in the pic). Now I’m suspecting this is not a problem on software level....but let me know if this isn’t the right way to test.

I recommend pulling out a multimeter, taking a look at the ws2812b data sheet, and just checking voltages between connected pins. The first LED might be borked, or you might have an issue with the microcontroller or its pins. Also check the USB port and see if there is cracked solder there. If you can't find an issue, maybe look into reflowing the microcontroller and the usb pins if you can do it safely. I'm sure that someone else will ahve better advice than me, but these are the guesses I can make from fixing my own board with basically the same architecture.

so, duck has said he doesn't want to do it again, but he's running v3s in the same sequence that he ran v2s, so wait and see what happens after octagon v3

i have heard nothing confirming or denying

Domestic (Korea) GB for Viper/Eagle v3 happened last month. If the time span between domestic GB and Geekhack GB for the last Octagon is any indication, an international GB may be in February or March.

Is there any RGB presets pre installed on the v2 PCBs? What I mean is can you change the RGB lighting with any keys from the default config? Or do you need to use O2D or QMK to be able to change the RGB.

In QMK it uses regular RGB underglow. So you can use the RGB_XXX keycodes. You can also use VIA for it for dynamic lighting changes.

Thanks to merlin64 I created a sub-reddit dedicated to these awesome boards and wrote up a pretty comprehensive guide to programming the viper/eagle v2/v3 with QMK and VIA. I had some trouble finding all the info I was looking for so I hope this makes it easier for everyone else too.
