UK PC/AT 84 key 'board with original box
« on: Sun, 19 April 2009, 16:07:55 »
http://search.ebay.co.uk/230338172021

Looking at a P/N 6450225's label, it was designated by Greenock model "000", but in reference to its keyswitch technology we would consider it "Model F".  Looks like as nice an example as you'd ever find, unless you require a sealed box.

Opening auction starting at 99p, ends Sunday 26th.

I have no affiliation with the seller.

Ah damn, delivery is too expensive to get it sent out to Ireland. I'm not really that interested in paying much money for a spare anyway, even if it is in perfect condition.

How much it goes for depends really if there's anyone interested in snapping one up. If no one is bidding much on it, I'd go in and try and snap it up cheap. They're amazing to type on, much moreso than the Model M.

While I think I have seen one of these in this condition on eBay UK before, it's so long ago I can't even be sure.  These are fairly uncommon here in any condition.

It could go for any figure; PC/AT enthusiasts would be glad of it, and the seller implies they're prepared to post anywhere.  Just posting the link may have an effect on the price...

The only thing that would surprise me would be a no sale.  If I relinquish control to the Keyboard Acquisition Module, I might like to pick up a spare myself.

Yeah I was expecting it to go a lot higher. But then I expected my space saver to sell for more too ;)

The UK is a pretty isolated market. Not sure if this is still the case, but shipping was as expensive as shipping from the states, last time I checked. I can almost see England from the beach. The good news is the Netherlands is a ****ty sellers market as well, perhaps worse :) All the items I found here have cost me almost nothing.

From a UK perspective the EU is a lot cheaper than the US or Japan, although the shipping can be similar, there's no customs charges or import VAT when buying stuff from other EU countries.

Just want to say this is here now.
I will get some pics when I can.
The keys feel very different to any other IBM board I have used. They are very light.
I love the key action its superb.
I will give it a clean and post a review soon.

Christ the space bar is heavy! Its making my thumb hurt!
I have not taken the pictures just yet but I am loving the key feel of all the keys other than the space bar. The sound is really nice too.
Here is the label on the bottom of the board.
The condition is very very close to new. All the keys are textured as if never touched. The seller says he bought the board and it was only used to show clients the AT. When the Model M came out it was put in a box and left. The box it came in is from an XT rather than the AT.

It works perfectly yes. It uses the larger connector who's name I forget. Its just a different shape to PS2 though so a simple £1 adapter sorts it out.

It's a 5-pin 180° DIN connector (from DIN 41524), as commonly seen on pre-1990 audio gear from Germany and Eastern Europe. I guess they used this one because it was commonly available, cheap and quite rugged to boot.

BTW: Not wanting to nitpick, but wasn't it "whose"?

More commonly known as an 'AT' connector.
