Except you'll have to buy the whole PC to get it!

Amazing.  It's almost worth bidding on, as the inclusion of the PC may hold the price down.  May be a worthwhile flip if the keyboard is in good shape.

shipping :(

Shipping shmipping.  If this auction goes for under $20.00, the seller is shipping you a wad of cash, considering what the M mini goes for.

I could drive to Lancaster PA pretty easily if he would allow that instead of shipping costs. :)

However, I doubt I'll bid, because I assume this will get rather high priced.  I'm sure he would sell the mini separately if he knew someone would still give him $100 or so.

I would love to have a PS/2 Model 25 with the colour display.  But would selling the space saver recover the cost of transatlantic shipping?...

I hadn't been paying that market too much attention, to be honest.  I should know better.

Anyway, there's a special shipping policy for this auction (I had used the shipping calculator which let me use USPS...):
"All shipping will be through UPS Ground. Continental U.S. bidders only, please."

UPS Ground+US only is the same predicament I had with the Model F "space savers" (rather "we hadn't standardised on the layout" than "space saver").  I was thinking about trying to get hold of that seller; in this case I don't suppose anyone in the US would be prepared to proxy, would they?

Back on topic, is it possible he has a contract or something with the place he got it from to get rid of it as one lot?

  Wow.  The seller came into the thread to defend himself.

I was wrong about bid pumping on those NIB minis.  I apologize to anyone I might have offended.

@bigpook:

I never meant to imply you were of suspect character, shady, a ne'er-do-well, or anything else.  I looked at the bid history on both of those 'boards, saw that both persons had bid almost exclusively on other keyboards, and concluded something was amiss.  Again, I was wrong, and I'm sorry.

Cheers,
~rn.

I bought one last week for $77 shipped. The high prices on ebay space-savers seems to apply only to those in new or mint condition.

A bona fide Model 25 with the color display -- wow. That used to be my favorite computer. I think we had one with a "paper white" display too. I remember people kept switching the keyboards around; the mini was generally regarded as "incomplete" though occasionally a forward-thinker using one of those new-fangled mouse things would seek it out...

Yea I paid about the same price for mine shipped about 2 weeks ago. The only ones going for the 200+ price range are the NIB boards.  For instance this one that is currently 227 and still has 4 days left http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180351013474

The used ones are going for considerably less.
Keyboards
Topre Capacitive: Realforce 87U, Realforce 86U, HHKB Pro 2, Topre MD01B0, Topre HE0100, Sun Short Type, OEM NEO CS (x2), NISSHO Electronics KB106DE
Buckling Spring: IBM Model M Space Saver (1291472), Unicomp Customizer x 2
Cherry Brown: Filco FKBN87M/EB, Compaq MX11800
Black Alps: ABS M1
Not so great boards Rare Spring over dome OKI, Sun rack keyboard

Trackballs - Trackman Wheel (3), Trackman marble (2)
Keyboards I still want to get - Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 the White version, Realforce 23U number pad in black and maybe white, μTRON ergo board with Topre switches.
Previously owned - SiiG MiniTouch (White Alps), Scorpius M10 (Blue Cherry), IBM Model M13

That auction raises a question that I had a while back. Are there two or three colors of the left-sided "ibm" logo on the Ms? Are some people describing the grey logo as white, or are they two different colors? For example, in that auction the label is clearly white. I knew there were white and grey lefties, but the white logo would be news to me.

Actually I think the oval IBM logo on the top left side of the keyboard comes in 3 variants:
- black (or is it dark grey?) lettering on white label
- blue lettering on grey label (newer models)
- white lettering on black label (some industrial models and black M13)

IBM Model F62 (Ellipse's) • PFU HHKB Pro Type S Hybrid • PFU HHKB Pro • Leopold FC660C • IBM Model M SSK 1391472 • IBM Model M SSK UNI04C6 • IBM Model M 1391405 (x4) • Cherry MX 1800 Compact (blue Cherry) • Cherry MX 11900 Touchboard (brown Cherry) • Dell AT102W (black Alps) • Apple Extended Keyboard II (cream Alps) • Acer 6312-TA (black Acer) • Unikey KWD-601 (white Cherry)

ripster,
I am still here.  Really enjoy reading the conversations on here.  This is some education on keyboards.  I remember a few years ago when I made an interface to use a PC keyboard on a TI 99/4A.  That was a lot of fun.

I think it's someone on this forum.  Not a lot of typical Ebay folks can spell "separately" correctly.

But is it "separate" or "separately"?

http://data.grammarbook.com/blog/uncategorized/adjectives-and-adverbs-when-to-use-ly/

- Ripster

P.S.  Gotta give the sellers a break and make fun of the ebay buyers for a change.

Separately would describe how the computer would be sold, e.g., apart from the model M mini we'd all love to swipe for <$10.00.  So, it's separately.

Cheers,

And spank that seller for not doing a little research on what he had:

Mmm, ears. I do think he a little sense spanked into him in the form of last-minute bids. Seriously though, he should be writing a gracious letter to geekhack for Manyak's post. Somehow without even mentioning the mini, beyond writing "keyboard" in the title, he still made $10 under the market price for a properly labeled mini auction--not too shabby. He'll be reselling the computer too. I was actually shocked by how high it went, not to complain.
