Title: [IC] Retro-Computing Deskmats: PDP-1

The first computers were designed to be stylish and attractive.
They also changed the world. With my retro-computing deskmat
series, I will create artwork that celebrates both the beauty and
the importance of many old computing systems.

The PDP-1 computer is the first in this series.
One of the first video games, Spacewar, was programmed for
this system at MIT in 1962.  Spacewar was shared throughout
the computer programming community and ultimately inspired
the game Asteroids.

The PDP-1 is a beautiful machine. The control panel,
switches, & monitors all work together with a repurposed
IBM Model-B typewriter to create an object worth admiring.

Thanks to MarkTheWeeb, ImperfectLink, Afresh, Ducks, ThickJimmy, & LP for all the
help & encouragement! Special thanks to Cthulhupa for helping me sort
out the technical manuals to get the lights & labels right on the panels.
All the artwork was created by me in Adobe Illustrator.
The render is also by me.
As such I retain artist's copyright of all my work.

Cool concept, what other retro machines have you planned?

AAD:  yes these will be 4mm thickness. A very good manu will be making these

Hottrout: Definitely the Altair 8800, one of the Cray's and an IBM 7094. I am also thinking seriously about a Honeywell System & a Symbolics System

Damn! I really like the Retro Beige colorway, would look phenomenal with beige keycaps or a beige board, just a really nice one that would be easy to match. I also really like the table design, a simple addition to the piece.

Love it, if you need any images of old systems or suggestions, I am happy to help.  It might be an excuse to dig them out of the collection. (The Dictaphone Keyboard in my Avatar is not from the web, it is a photo from my collection)
