Ordered 200 switches, also first post here, hi everybody! I want to build my own <60% ergonomic keyboard, with a costum design. Some people ask me why (I have already a mechanical keyboard), but you can never have enough keyboard stuff.

Maybe you should have a conversation with my wife.  :P

I may have to hide the fact that I am ordering $1000 worth of switches.  About $900 worth of switches more than I need.  Haha...

@hwood34: did the number of browns ordered actually go down or are you just assuming that it will stay at 20k and I will be reducing my order by whatever I can to keep it at 20k?

I'm just putting up the 20k number so people on the fence will buy if they now it'll be at $0.16. It's actually at 18,700 though, so we'll get pretty close

Is the 18,700 number before or after my order of 4300?  If its before that will make my day because then I can order a more reasonable number.

Thats cheap IMO. It costs me $9 to ship untracked air to the US from Canada.  US residents are just spoiled re:shipping. :)

True. Lets not forget the conversion rates these days in Canada. Example, a $199 ergodox from massdrop become $252 Canadian  :(

Shipping a cap via USPS first class mail costs less than $2. That includes tracking and it usually arrives within 3-4 days. We certainly are spoiled!

Still wondering if i should join / what i should get.

Really deciding on what to get.

I'm somehow wanting something that feels like Topre so i'm trying to figure out in my mind what would be most like it.

But either way. I'm iffy on the linear-ness of the blacks since i was never a fan of linear switches when i first tried them so i havent tried them since.
Should I end up getting the blacks like everyone suggest or should i get browns/blues

Also, should i get clears just for aesthetics and use the clear stem with the black springs? or maybe use some Sprit (too soon?) springs to make different switches, as to not mess up the perfectness of the stock Gateron Blacks.

Just rambling since i'm waiting for my girlfriend.

But if someone could help me decide, that would be greeeeeeeeeeeeat-ly appreciated :)

Edit: NOT TO MENTION should i toss in 1 set of clear tops, or 2 sets? SO MUCH TO BUY

put it this way.  you will never have the chance to buy switches at this price again.  I would recommend you buy about 100 of each of black or clear, brown and blue.  This way you will have all of the options and you can experiment as much as you want.  You can always sell the extras if you find you don't like something.  At this price you can't really go wrong with buying more than you 'need'.  Also, the more you buy the more likely you will be paying less per switch for shipping...  All good reasons to jump in with both feet...  :)

Do the clears make sense to put under some keys hit by the pinky fingers, or are they too light for even that?

Planning on building an ergo clear GON 60. Maybe throw in a few numpads in there.

Just to make sure you know, Gateron Clears are not tactile like Cherry switches. The are completely linear.

I have a bunch of Cherry MX Clears.  I just want the housings from the Gaterons and the clear switch tops from the other group buy.  :thumb:

Before I submit my form, is there a difference in smoothness between the clears and blacks?
Also, would an addition of 150 clear tops tip the shipping cost over to the 201-300 switches' range, if I'm in for only 200?

It is my understanding that the clears and blacks are done with the same mold, so they should be pretty consistent.

They'd be essentially the same smoothness, can't really see the difference some dye would make. As for the switch tops, yes, it would bump you up. You'll want to PM Shadovved for a more exact estimate though

Shipping costs per switch won't convince me
But I think I'm pretty much sticking to blacks and clears :P
