Where to buy Realforce keycaps ?
« on: Sun, 11 March 2018, 13:33:47 »
Hi,

is there a place where I can buy keycap sets for the Realforce keyboards?
I know you can buy keycaps for the HHKB, but I cant find them for the Realforce boards ...

Especially the ISO-DE version.
There is a ISO-DE Realforce 87UB, so why can't I purchase a set of Topre ISO-DE keycaps  :(

Why aren't they selling the keycaps to their keyboards separatley just like it's done with the HHKB? ... that's ridicolous.

Market for them is just enthusiasts, not daily users. So not enough to justify it really.

They stopped producing custom keycaps in 2014 or so.

This is a really sad situation that many of us hope will one day be remedied.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Rakuten has the printed sets in every colour save white, pink and red (the latter they just ran out of a couple days back). Amazon.co.jp has some jis sets, or you can check yahoo! auctions periodically. As for the blanks, good luck.

Unless its someone in the community running a buy. I think Topre's solution is the RGB TKL Real force they been teasing with MX stabs they been teasing. I think what will happen is the RGB series will be for "Gamers/Enthusiast" While there standard board's will be for the more mainstream market. Though honestly I kinda love my humble Realforce TKL that sports 55g domes black/black alpha's with orange/black modifiers. Just kinda has a classy upscale feel while still looking nice.

Here are 4 different ansi keysets for cheap. On amazon jp you can find japanese layout sets. ISO I couldn't find in my quick research.

If I pay 200+ bucks for a Realforce, I want to make sure that I can buy new original keycaps for it when the old ones are worn.
As long as Realforce doesn't offer replacement keycaps, I can't buy one.  :(

It's pretty hard to wear out PBT dyesub though, I mean it will wear out but I've had my keyboard for 5+ years and still looks almost brand new.

That being said I've recently bought this:  https://kbdfans.cn/collections/electrostatic-capacitive-keycaps/products/in-stock-ec9009-keycaps-set

While I haven't put them on my keyboard yet (will try this weekend), but upon first glance this actually look very good.

Will report back once I put them on keyboard.  :P

Honestly if it makes you feel even bit better never heard or seen anyone mange to ware out a set of Dye subbed or double shot keycaps. In fact if I am not mistaken IBM Model F/M's used dye subbed keycaps and are getting into there 40th Anniversary soon  Most don't have worn out keycaps

if your concern is with them wearing out you don't really need to worry, unless you have a problem with a relatively small amount of shine (and only then after probably 5+ years of heavy use)
