한국어 스레드! - Korean thread!
« on: Fri, 02 January 2015, 01:15:31 »
Just thought with all the hype with Korean keyboards here, along with members from Korean communities lurking geekhack, I thought having a Korean themed thread would be a fun idea. Anyone who can type Korean, want to practice Korean or even copy paste google translate are welcome. Im hoping this will encourage more collaboration between the communities.

안녕하세요! 긱핵에 한국 키보드 팬이 많아서 한국어 전용 글 작성해봅니다.
긱핵 룰 위반이 아닌 이상 마음대로 한국어로 포스트 하세요.
KBDmania/KBDlab/OTD 회원님들 있으면 같이 놀아요 ^^

Google Translate
(Lets be civil and keep racism minimal. If this is against any rules of geekhack feel free to shut it down)
edit: google translate sucks lol check out Naver Translator

I totally forgot about that. They have a whole board for "english only" but it seems pretty quiet there..

I wont force you to stay but you can always use google translate.

Sometimes it would be nice to have someone translate the Korean pages for us non-Korean speakers - Google does a horrendous job
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hopefully, this thread can be of that help. Weather it is conversing in Korean or translating Korean. I dont know about pages.. but if theres certain excerpts you need help with just ask me. Translating is the least I can contribute to this community.

I think the thread is a great idea. I started to look for resources to learn Korean, but couldn't find anything that can close to Michel Thomas's material for other languages.

I did spend some time learning the alphabet, it's nowhere as complex as it looks at first. Forgotten it all now, though.

Totally agree about google translate.  I wonder if it has destroyed the possible market for a working product, while not delivering a service that works.

Bowji, would you mind looking through this page and seeing if the poster mentions what board the caps came from? I've never seen them before: http://blog.naver.com/dyraos/220163731100

Also, I hear you username is somewhat of a innapropriate word in Korean :))

Ive been using google translate for Chinese in taobao, but I never tried Korean until I started this thread and its absolutely horrible. I edited the OP with a link to a translator Koreans use, its a Korean version of yahoo (www.naver.com).

"키캡 - 닥승화키캡" : Keycap - Dak dye-sub keycap

키캡=keycap, 닥=reads as "dak"(Im still new to the keyboard world so Im not sure what company that corresponds to), 승화(short for 승화인쇄)=dye-sublimation.

edit: so I dug around the Korean forums and the poster misspelled 닥..its meant to be 닭. A correlation with peacocks[?].. In conclusion its from a Cherry G81 keyboard.

My Korean writing is horrible.. spelling mistakes + grammer, but it gets the point across lol
I was a bit into typing Korean before due to Korean games and now my job requires it

I've always enjoyed watching GON's YouTube channel (even the vids in Korean and I don't speak Korean).

He is a very talented keyboard maker. Are there other Korean Keyboard YouTube channels like GON's?

Not that I know of. Hopefully someone who does can link it up.
If none, try copy paste "기계식 키보드" on youtube search. (Theyre mostly videos of comparing switch sounds.. FUN!)

Well this is embarrassing.   :-[   I did use a translator.  :))  Here's what I wrote:

The last line was intended to inform you that it was just a translation from the internet, but that didn't go as planned.  :D  I have not formally started to learn Korean, but it has been on my mind for some time now (along with Japanese), so I'm hoping that I can make myself do it finally!  ;)

I blame the translator! No... My Korean isnt perfect  :p
Ive been wanting to pick up Japanese as well, since I heard its similar to Korean. I just never had the chance to. As geekhack lures members from all over the world, having designated language threads seems like a good chance to bond+learn. Of course with a unified rule of how the thread should be ran for others who dont speak the language.
Hope this thread motivates others as well.  :thumb:

Japanese is the most kawaii sugoi desu-ne of all the east Asian Languages.

My Japanese is pretty rusty, but better than my Korean.

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Lesson for the day: "ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ" is the Korean form of "hahahaha". Sounds like "ke" and you just spam Z in Korean.
