What's the difference between full-plate and half-plate?
half plate is preferred to be used with tactile switches while a full plate is for linear switches, that's not to say you can't use whatever switch with either plate

Is it like a general consensus  that the half plate is better for tactile switches or is it more like some people prefer the half plate and some prefer the full plate, just like some people prefer a switch and some prefer another?

IMO, it's more of a personal preference.

Half plate? With new plate designs, you can open the switch without desoldering all the switches and removing the plate from the PCB.

From what I just read, it's not to be able to mod the switch, but for the feel when typing.

Yep, and I hate the feel of typing on a PCB-mounted switch vs. a plate mounted switch. Why anyone would prefer it the other way is beyond me.

I have to agree with jdcarpe there is a solid feel to typing on a plate, where the PCB bottom out doesn't feel as nice.

I'm frustrated at the lack of tenkey options.  And worried it would cost so much that I'd have to ask "is that the price in won or dollars?"

In kit form, I wouldn't expect any less than $250, and that is without switches, fully assembled with switches, I would expect somewhere in the neighborhood of $400.

I'm pretty sure I was one of the original three. :)
