Heya, I get Code Bios error 53.

I got a 5930k CPU running with Asus x99 pro motherboard.

I tried alle four 16 gb ram in each slot, same error.

Anyone got ideas here?

Is it a new mobo or new RAM in an old one?  If not new mobo try resetting CMOS using the jumper or switch.  If you have any other RAM that does work you could go into BIOS and change RAM settings from auto to manual with a slow speed that definitely works.  If you haven't already try booting with just one stick to get into BIOS to switch on XMP.   If none of the above check has the latest BIOS, I guess an x99 would have some kind of recovery mode to do this with a non booting system, probably a specific filename on a USB stick in a specific port.

The mobo is like 4-5 years old but works fine. And yes I have access to old memory stick that works. Will the "MemOK" button work?

I never had much luck with mine but it's worth a try if you've got one, that's what it's designed for

it restarted three times and printed same error code. Proceeding with CMOS now. If that does not work, then its a bios update.

I moved RLRTC jumper from pin 1/2 to 2/3 for 10 seconds and back. same error.

Attempt bios update?

If you install working RAM then go into BIOS, turn off XMP and set it at 1600mhz 2133mhz then swap the RAM back it should boot.

At long as you have some kind of BIOS recovery there's no harm updating it, but check it is actually an update (the currrent version will be displayed somewhere in BIOS)

Just been reading about X99, seems when asked to run 3000mhz some boards overclock bclk to 125 and that's a big jump from 100.  BIOS update or try and run it at 3200mhz are suggestions.

Unfortunately the issue did not resolve. But new bios interface looks nice. Should I try a single ram stick and run at 3200 mhz? Not change anything else but the frequency?

ok i got one stick to work at 2133 mhz. If I reply no further, assume the issue resolved and thanks for help.

All four memory sticks now work. They operate at 2133 mhz. Perhaps its a CPU + ram imcompatibility?

Is there a way I can get them to work with my desired frequency of 3000 mhz?

From what I read you should be good up to 2666mhz, then you can lower the latency to compensate for the speed loss.  Or you could try it at 3200mhz - the speed doesn't damage RAM when overclocking, the extra voltage needed to get it stable does.

I got some black screen on boots, and other times it said overclocking failed, when attempting 3200 and 3000 mhz.

I am running 3.5 ghz on my 5930k, and 2666 on ram.

For a x99 MB, what do you estimate I could attempt running on my system, in speed/settings, that does not reduce any system/hardware lifespan?

Could I up the 5930k CPU speed to 4200 without issue, as long as it is stable, and try to sit with 2666 on ram?

And if I want higher on ram, I would need higher voltage, correct?

If you lock the voltage you can keep making the CPU faster until it's not stable and unless it's running really hot life won't be affected.  If you leave voltages on auto the mobo will increase them and usually more than required, this goes for chipset and CPU voltages.  Further reading suggests using XMP profiles may kill the CPU on x99 boards due to the voltages it sets - scary stuff.  It also suggests RAM speed is down to how lucky you got with your CPU, much like how far it will overclock.  Some do fast RAM, so do fast clocks and some do both.

Having never played with X99 or indeed any DDR4 Intel board I suggest you reset the BIOS to defaults, reboot, copy all the default voltages over the 'Auto's and start upping the speed on RAM until it's unstable.  Note your best stable setting, then lower RAM speed and see how far the CPU goes.  Then try both top speeds together and reduce RAM until it's stable.  Run an appropriate benchmark (I don't know what you're planning to do on this system to say what that would be) and note the score.  Then put the RAM back to full speed and reduce the CPU.  Run benchmark again and you'll know which one is quicker, so obviously that's the one to use.

If you want to raise voltages you'll need a proper overclocking guide for x99 written by someone who's researched the safe limits, the advantage of having an older system is that these are known.  More voltage = shorter life, but unless you have extreme cooling you're not likely to kill anything before it's obsolete if you can keep the temps under control.

Asus is known for being rather liberal with ram voltage, it may actually be a bit hot.

I agree with Suicidal_Orange though, find someone's guide who's already done it.

You need more ring voltage to get higher mem speeds stable, and they probably still won't be stable in avx loads. So make sure ur testing software doesn't use avx.

x99's pretty picky with ram in general.
