[GB] AL1 (Shipping, QMK Codes Open Sourced)
« on: Thu, 28 December 2017, 09:42:15 »
QMK codes open sourced here

Plate and PCB files open sourced here

Interest Checked

Features

  • Fully programmable by TMK
  • 6061 aluminum case, 6063 aluminum plate, brass weight
  • USB Type C
  • Detachable WKL blockers
  • North facing or south facing LEDs are all supported by the PCB

MOQ and Price

  • MOQ 30: $290
  • MOQ 40: $275
  • MOQ 50: $260
  • Laser engraving service: $14

If another MOQ is met after you paid the invoice, you will be refunded the price differences.

The CNC and anodizing service are provided by a factory locally near Alsoran in China. The PCB is designed by me and I'm not making profit from this GB. That's why we can keep the price low.

TODO List

  • Alsoran designed the case
  • I designed the PCB
  • Case prototype finished https://imgur.com/a/eFlWa
  • PCB prototype tested https://imgur.com/a/PLWoF
  • IC finished
  • Modified the LED positions
  • Added split BS on the PCB
  • Two types of plates designed
  • GB opened
  • Manufacturing case
  • PCB finished
  • Anodizing finished
  • QC and packing

Shipping

This delivery service will be provided by DHL for most countries.

  • UK: $62
  • Germany, France: $53
  • US: $52
  • Canada: $56
  • Australia: $42
  • Vietnam: $70
  • Republic of Korea: $48
  • HongKong: SF express 'Cash on Delivery'
  • For other countries, I'll need to ask for quotes

Timeline

  • GB ends on: 10 days after GB opened, or, whenever I found MOQ 50 is reached
  • Lead time: 2-3 months.

Options

Color: We can provide 13 colors in maximum but there will be only 5 preset combinations by default. Each color combination has one color  for top and bottom case, and another color for the plate. If you pay additional $28, you can freely choose 3 colors for top case, bottom case, and plate.

Plate: There're two types of plates. Choose the first one if you don't know what's the difference.

Find detailed options and place your order here

is there a way to commit when it hits 50MOQ?

also, do you have the layout for both plates? I'm not so sure how the right split shift will look like? is it 1.75u + 1u?

It's just a layout. The sticking aspect of Duck's design is on the case sides, not the layout.

I don't understand why the plate colour is some random colour. Is there an option to have it plain silver or the same colour as the case without paying $28?

Sorry, no way to commit.

Split right shift is 1.75u+1u, the only correct way to me.

My friend alsoran will ship boards from Chongqing, China.

The preset colors are the combinations Alsoran likes. He couldn't provide all the combinations apparently. It's just a way to keep this GB simple.

Silver or same color with the case shouldn't add complexity too much. Just Pm me if you need that. I'll update the order info.

This is ridiculous that we have to pay an additional $28 to be able to select our own colors. Most likely no longer joining this gb because of this.

Any way to know if/when you’re in or change your order?

I’m pretty sure I entered at like 3:30 AM EST but I didn’t get an email or anything, and I’ve thought about it and I’d like to pony up the $28 for “custom colors”

This, I would rather pay extra for the brass plate than have to pay extra for another brass plate + pcb when I would have no need for a RED aluminum plate

Is the same workshop that anodized the boards from the TKL GB (see here https://imgur.com/a/bJPfF) doing the anodizing for the AL1? I love the blue on the boards (see second and last pic) so if the number 8 color sample is the same I might want to update my order to go with blue.

It was mentioned in the IC that some of those pictures are renders. By the look of the surface it’s on that one might be a render. If it’s not a render I’m right there with you. I want that color.

Sorry guys. There won't be brass plate option.

I'd like to make some explanations on why we charge for customization of colors and the lack of flexibility of options. In most CNC/anodizing factories in China, they deal with very large orders every day. When they are asked to manufacture only several brass plates, or to anodize one color for only several parts, they not only charge you more, but also treat you with poor manners. Sometime they don't even accept the order. Alsoran will be the one who deal with these problems. He honestly provided all the possible options the factory can provide. He should be rewarded for the extra work he will do.

The current rules/options for this GB were determined by considering the number of orders, price, options, costs of risks. There're always tradeoffs but this is our decision. I hope you can understand.

It's raw by default. Alsoran mentioned he might be able to find a factory the seal them but he's uncertain.
