Post Count - What happened?
« on: Thu, 28 December 2017, 13:26:45 »
Seems like a pretty petty question, but I am curious nonetheless. I'm pretty sure my post count was much higher than it's shown now, was there a purge of old posts?

There was an issue with the server a few months ago which required iMav to reset something. It did a hard recount of all posts, which hadn’t been done in ages. Some site/subforum changes apparently didn’t prompt a recount at the time they were made, while some did. So now everything is correct again.  :thumb:

That's the thing though - your post count is now correct.  ;)  All high-post-count users lost thousands of posts.

A lot of posts were lost a few years ago during r00tw0rm, and when former members and their threads were removed, and so on.

A little at a time might not have been detected, but recalculating them all at once is immediately and painfully obvious.

OTOH some of us (yourself included) have "lost" more posts than most members ever had in total.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I seem to remember my post count going down from about 5,000 to 3,000 when that happened. I wish it would be fixed. If the GEEK HACK administrators used Windows 98, this wouldn't have happened!

Apparently the count is now accurate.

A monthly or even yearly recount would make the drop less of a shock to people.
