FORM!!!

Hello folks!

Maybe one of you know me run custom sleeve for keyboard before with you can custom design on your sleeve as you want with cheap price.
Here's the idea :

1. I will make inside of bag like whitefox did with this one

2. I will put handle like tx bag

3. Add extra foam like pelican case did so you can customize size of hole to fit your keyboards

4. I will use spill proof fabric like i use on my custom sleeve, and you can use image as you want for this bag.

Estimated Price : $30-$35

What to do :
- Size will we use for this bag (Is it 1 bag for every size of keyboard or 1 bag for more than 1 keyboards)
- Get Moq at least 30 pcs for this run
- Make sample (I will do it on may)

Update:

- 27 April
Ok so i got confirmation from my vendor, if we go with different size we need 30 moq of each size. So it think i will make 1 fit for (40%, 60%, 65%) and second will fit for (75%,TKL,Compact and 1800). I will make form ASAP.

- 1 May (1)
- The size will be fix 440x220x70mm and 370x170x70mm. I can't make other size until i get big order because 1 size need 1 mould and 1 MOQ.
- Fabric canvas need to change because they told me i must use stretch fabric. And this is will be hard to customize image.
- I will make 4 sample this time with big size all of them, Here's the detail sample i will make :
  1. Use seamless pattern image
  2. Use Non seamless image and different on both side
  3. Use text on corner of the bag
  4. Use 2 solid color on Back and Front bag

I will print new fabric and will be ready this weekend so i can make prototype next week.
If prototype look good we will run GB on 14 May

- 1 May(2)
I check shipping fee through website it's about $50-$55 /pcs for EMS
I'm already contact them to see if i can use different service to decrease the cost.
1. The option is use ocean service need more time but will be cheaper.
2. Use another service beside EMS with cheaper cost.
3. Send them in cargo and find some proxy for Conus and Europe.

Let me know how much you can pay for shhipping fee /pcs?

So let me know what do you think on this one.

Great idea! If you provide the most common sizes (HHKB, 65-68% and TKL for me) then I'll definitely buy 2 or 3 at the estimated price.

I was thinking to make it at 1 size 50x20x10cm and would be fit until 1800 layout keyboard. And you can customize inner padding use foam like pelican case did.
But if my vendor can do multiple size and combine them in the same order moq. I would go for diffrent size support.

Oh yea that'd work too, of course the latter solution would be easier for the customer but either would be just fine, I'd say.

I'd be interested in 1 or 2 for TKLs.  Custom foam is a nice idea, that way could potentially do a case for a TKL and a numpad.

Looking for cases for an 1800, a 96key, a 75%, a TKL (as large as a Realforce), a Blackbird style layout keyboard (TKL could work), a 65%, and a few 60%s.

Interested. I'd be in for at least one at that price. I better start looking for a nice image to throw on there.  ;D Question: If your vendor won't do multiple sizes and you go with the one size fits all and cut your insert to size method, would we be able to buy multiple foam inserts? (And if so, do you have an estimated price per foam insert?) Looking forward to this.

Somewhere in the 15-20 range depending on final price.

50 * 20 * 10 is big enough for even my largest keyboards.

I would want to see a prototype but I could be in for a few of these.  I have a couple of the TX/LZ cases and they are extremely convenient for storage and shipping.

In terms of sizing, I'd prefer the smaller side of things (TKL, 65, 60).  You could probably make a 65%-sized case work for both 65 and 60 easily enough. But putting a TKL in a larger-than-TKL-sized case starts to get unwieldy.

Interested in two for 60/65% sizes. I'd prefer smaller size overall rather than a TKL-sized with foam.

Any idea what shipping would be like for these in the CONUS?

I'd be interested in several sized for 65%, and several sized for larger keyboards.  I wouldn't be interested in using a larger case padded out with lots of foam for a 65%, but I still have use for some of the larger cases.  I'm very interested in seeing how the prototype turns out.  Given the low MOQ you're talking about, would you consider running multiple rounds so we can try them out and come back for more?

Do you have a color way in mind? Personally I would prefer all black. And if there was an option for no handle, I would prefer that as well.

I think it would also be cool to have a Velcro patch on the outside to add a custom patch.

I print it first on white canvas, so basically you can put color as you want. Yes you can remove the handle if you want. And for patch i need to think it first because it will lot to do.

Thanks for the quick reply. I misread your original post and did not realize you were offering custom designs. I think that's actually way better so probably don't worry about the Velcro patch. Thanks!

i think interest is there even if you have different bag for each size, main thing now is to produce the prototype where most of the IC like this fail to do and then just forget about it.

Once you have prototypes and at a reasonable price and shipping, youll get alot of orders including from me  :))

It's hard to get diferrent size on this vendor. Because they charge me with 100 moq of each size.
For price i'm pretty sure it will $30 for smaller size and $35 for bigger size.
The problem is shipping, it will got volume for sure. Maybe i need some proxy to reduce the shipping fee.

I like the WhiteFox color scheme bag shown in the first post.  I'd be inclined to get some light toned combination myself, such as light gray shell with teal or rose-gold/dusty rose/pink lining, if anything like that is available.  Otherwise light gray case and dark gray inside foam.  The mesh pouch in the WhiteFox bag is also useful for various addons, matching cable, or paper notes.  Looking forward to the final configuration and color options.

Ok.. Here's new update when i visited my vendor today.

1. The option is use ocean service need more time but will be cheaper.
2. Use another service beside EMS with cheaper cost.

I'm definitely not keen on spending almost twice as much as the bag costs on shipping, especially as I'm looking for 15-20 of them.
That adds up quick.  More than $10 a piece in shipping would give me pause.

Bad news is... i check shipping fee through website it's about $50-$55 /pcs for EMS

If you could setup proxy or regional vendors who could buy larger quantities to stock, it may reach higher MOQ and lower base price, and could decrease shipping to buyers by bulk shipping them and then shipping locally/regionally. I feel like these could be of enough interest that vendors would feel comfortable with it, if you approached the bigger names/websites.

Yes this is best option so far!
But if we use vendor to stock on their site maybe it will be hard to customize image.

I'm definitely not keen on spending almost twice as much as the bag costs on shipping, especially as I'm looking for 15-20 of them.
That adds up quick.  More than $10 a piece in shipping would give me pause.

Yeah i'm really know this problem.
Hope i can get special price from my local post.

Speaking for myself, the custom image is less of a priority than a well constructed case for a reasonable price. If you ran it in a few different colorways (maybe matching popular keyset colorways, i.e. hyperfuse, dolch, basic black/grey, cyan, etc), I feel it would have broader appeal to a wider audience/market. If you want to do a simple logo/graphic that is universal (MX/Topre switch schematic, cherry keycap profile, etc), that could also be appealing to more people than individualized graphic/print.

Woo you all are replying too quickly for me to go back and edit to add one more idea on the graphics/image topic:

If you reach out to vendors who will be interested in stocking these as inventory, you may be able to have each vendor have their own logo/graphic for the cases that they stock. So for example (I am in US, so will refer to vendor companies/sites I know), 1upkeybooards, Novelkeys, MechanicalKeyboards.com, etc. could have their own logo'd versions.

I personally do care for custom images; though I'd probably still get a few (2-3) if that idea is dropped.

An EU proxy is the biggest deal for me, $50 shipping is prohibitive - I'd feel comfortable very comfortable paying $50 total per bag (so $30+20 shipping), which I believe would be realistic if you managed to get a few proxies. For example Donutcat has found some proxies to help with his retro coiled cable buy and the prices decrease drastically, I'm sure Mykeyboard, mechboards UK or even Candykeys would potentially be interested in helping far as Europe goes.

I’m pretty indifferent about the custom images, but the shipping is very costly... but I’m probably still in for 2 or 3 depending on how the samples come out.

I'm also good with dropping the custom image.  Gotta get that shipping cost down though... it's REALLY high for something that light.

I'd be interested in hearing what the shipping cost looks like for three or four bags instead of just one.  It should be lower, and I suspect many of the orders will be for multiple bags.

I too am indifferent regarding custom images. I would prefer minimizing cost by providing a plain, but reliable and sturdy storage option

I can reduce shipping cost with reduce the height of bag to 6cm.

And price would be $65 shipped for big size and $60 shipped for small size.
There's no way i can reduce the price except for 50 qty.
Or maybe should we go with Massdrop? Of course with some default pattern or color.

Honestly I wouldn't care about what it looks like as long as I don't have to pay above what I'm comfortable with, I think contacting MD is a good idea

This is well within the range of what I would pay. I think it'd be nice to have a custom design, but it's not a deal breaker for me to go without. As long as there's an all black or gray colorway

Ok.. Here's new update when i visited my vendor today.

Any updates on the prototype / Shipping costs?
.

What do the numbers look like for a batch of 50?
I can probably rope together enough people in the bay area to make it worth the effort.

I think i need to update this thread.

So i will start make prototype early july (i hope so).
And i will decide price if you go with solid color or custom image later.

If the price is decent I can definitely see myself getting 1-2 cases with custom images. Hopefully the proto will turn out really nice as well!
