Yeah, that's what Welly wants to do.  What's wrong with that?

lol what i'd like is some logic and consistency to the categories - it wouldnt make sense to separate out F and M when they're so similar, and then clump together the alps which are much more different (Xm's vs fukka for instance) than F and M.

so it just seems like the categories are being "engineered" to basically allow the blue cherries to win (by dividing and conquering alps and bs categories). And you know, the electioneers here wouldnt have any interest in that, now would they? :D  We need some UN monitors, is what we need :)

So can we vote for TWO keyboards now? I'm confused.

One for each hand, right?

why not, if you have two favorites?

And do you have to own the keyboard to vote for it.

I think no, though i think it would make sense that you at least used it at some point

At the moment I'm torn between my two favorites. The Model F has a much more satisfying action, but my Compaq is a lot less fatiguing, and has improved my typing technique on my Model F.

My vote for the Dell Crappykey hasn't been counted! This is the most shamelessly biased thread since Ripster's switch poll!

Yeah, I'm LOL right now!  It makes perfect sense to seperate the F (buckling springs over capacitive contacts) vs. the M (buckling springs over membrane) because the key action and typing feel are very different.  The difference between the F and the M is more pronounced than the difference between the different varieties of ALPS key switches.

The IBM PC AT 84-key "Model F" is my top pick, but my second favorite keyboard is the Northgate Omnikey 102 with genuine complicated clicky ALPS key switches.  The Model M is a fine keyboard but it is not even one of my top 3 picks.

Perhaps you have limited experience using a Model F keyboard.  If you ever have the opportunity to type on the F and the M side by side, I think you might tend to agree that they feel like completely different key switches.

We don't need UN monitors.  All we need is a few of those guys who watched over the recent election in Afghanistan to ensure there is no geekhack voter fraud taking place  :)

And do you have to own the keyboard to vote for it.

Then the Model M would win for sure, because lots more people, probably even in this group if you count lurkers, own those than own anything by Topre or Filco. But if you haven't tried the keyboard, or at least the keyswitch it uses, how can you vote for it?

I voted for what I have. How can it be your favourite keyboard if you are not using it. Your favourite keyboard really should be the one you are using or you need to get another one pronto.
Keyboards
Topre Capacitive: Realforce 87U, Realforce 86U, HHKB Pro 2, Topre MD01B0, Topre HE0100, Sun Short Type, OEM NEO CS (x2), NISSHO Electronics KB106DE
Buckling Spring: IBM Model M Space Saver (1291472), Unicomp Customizer x 2
Cherry Brown: Filco FKBN87M/EB, Compaq MX11800
Black Alps: ABS M1
Not so great boards Rare Spring over dome OKI, Sun rack keyboard

Trackballs - Trackman Wheel (3), Trackman marble (2)
Keyboards I still want to get - Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 the White version, Realforce 23U number pad in black and maybe white, μTRON ergo board with Topre switches.
Previously owned - SiiG MiniTouch (White Alps), Scorpius M10 (Blue Cherry), IBM Model M13

I love my Model M. But until I have experience with Cherry Blue, I cannot tell other people, with confidence, that buckling springs really are better than Cherry Blue.

A keyboard - or another thing - can be better than merely adequate, it can be wonderful - and yet there might still exist one out there that's slightly better.

Of course you couldn't. Especially when in the poll about switches, they scored about the same.

Indeed there should be a poll where people say what keyboards they have used, and which they consider the best.

Overall, I think my model M wins it. I will probably go back to it, though I am loving my new toy, and the other half quite likes it too.

I am also going to have an M13 coming my way soon though.

I doubt it is *that* different to an M, but as has been said, until I try it, I can't truly know.

So until then, I am still abstaining from the vote.

Some people are listing more than 1 keyboard.  Doesn't that take away from the meaning of "favorite?"
