How much are US cigs? Australia us up to like 30 AUD a pack if you get them at the tobacconist?

US cigs are stupid cheap, except for NY. The most they get is $15/pack, most of the flyover country has them for around $5. CA is around $10, at least Bay Area. Half that further inland.

RE: Taxes: In my experience, taxes are not much lower in the US vs. UK, but you get way less for your money as health insurance is excluded, so actually cost of living is higher/it's much harder to save. The Americans also spend waaay less on actual public services, roads, parks, schools, etc., and much more on war machines, "subsidies" for energy industries, and other enrichments of private entities.

Yea, but my 100% Veggie will negate most of those effects.
For example, In Tibet, they smoke this very hardcore tobacco, unfiltered..
Every member in those tribes have lung problems down the road.
HOWEVER, miraculously no one has lung cancer..
The difference, these guys eat almost no meat/ animal products..
Smoking influences lung cancer for sure.. But it would seem meat consumption is absolutely the catalyst..
Without fuel, a fire may spark but will not endure..

Apart from maybe legacy taxes, US taxes on EVERYTHING are easily among the lowest of all first-world countries.
Income tax here is up to 52% as I recall. I earn a very middling wage and am taxed at around a third. Our fuel taxes are the highest in the world; a litre of petrol goes for €1.72 right now (that's $2.13 per litre or $8.06 per US gallon). Cigarettes are about €7.50 a pack or $9.28. VAT is at 21%. Import taxes start at $30, from what I understood it starts at $800 in the USA. Etc. etc. etc.

Most egregious, the Republican Dream would remove taxes altogether from capital gains, Wall Street trading, and inheritance, the 3 areas that should be taxed at the highest rates, not the lowest.

Weed, similar to tobacco ensures that a segment of users will be low/lower income.
This will continuously provide a source of labor for non-attractive occupations..
For example , food service, it's a tough and harsh job , and it's not too strict on drug testing.
So broadly, people who do drugs, inhibit their minds in certain ways, will be shackled to these forms of labor.
This is necessary for a capitalist society, because of ever rising wage and inflation.

Marijuana should not be taxed..
Over the long term, people who do not do marijuana will certainly out-compete those who do.
Taxing it would just slow this process of realization..
Let smokers run fast and burn out..
Insulate young people, let learned adults do whatever they want..
The tax is not critical, the government simply prints money and sell rifles.. There is no reason for a special tax.

I'm not sure how the UK works, but we also have state tax in addition to federal taxes. I earn within the top 25% of the US and I am taxed at about 31%. This means I earn much less than my actual salary implies. What's hilarious about US greed/corruption is that those who make over $500,000/year just had their taxes cut by 2%! Yet it barely changes at all for the lower earners (i.e. the people who actually need tax cuts).

Have you tried "contributing" to your "representative"'s "campaign"? It's pretty much an auction, and a surprisingly cheap one at that.
Example: Top NRA "contribution" is $9.9k, and about 85% of the rest are below $2k.
