Techkeys Business Card case!
« on: Sun, 13 July 2014, 21:00:35 »
Hey All,

Several months ago I saw i3oiler's business cards and thought it was really cool. I decided to build a case

A couple months later I finally actually designed a case and planned to get materials.

A couple months later I got materials and made 3 of them. One for me, one for i3oiler, and a 3rd that was a prototype.

I'd like to give the prototype + one of the business cards away. It's a prototype, so it's a bit rough, but it looks like this http://imgur.com/a/Krs7s. It's made out of all smoke acryllic. Please note that this is a prototype, while it's a badass case, there are some rough edges and it's slightly miscut.

(Sorry, my phone's autofocus sucks)

So. I'm announcing a giveaway! I'm giving it until the end of  July 20th (that's next sunday) and then I'll ship out (hopefully at some reasonable speed) the card and the case to someone.

How you win: Propose the coolest idea for what you plan on doing with the case and the card. I'll decide on someone and ship it out.

But Krav, you're someone who never talks and I don't really care, I just wanna make the card on my own.

k. I'm totally cool with that. Here's the files i had for doing it.
http://www.chronostasis.net/gl/geekhack/case.zip

Note: This is for one of i3oiler's older cards, not his new one. The new one is badass and If i ever get around to modifying the design for the case or get my hands on one I'll totally post the new plans.

Nearly executed - well done! :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Totally. I saw that and immediately thought that it would be a very cool project for a control board for a pi or possibly a home server. There's a lot of cool things to do.

My big issue isn't actually wanting to make one, or having the skill at this point. It's getting off my ass and actually making one. It's like an afternoon project, but I've sworn off any new ones of those until September is over, purely due to the sheer number of things that happen between now and then.

idea 1)
yay osu keyboard!
first button mouse 1
second button mouse 2
third button programed to open 4chan

idea 2) create a game. three buttons, each takes you to either google, clubpenguin.com or a jumpscare website. plug it in to anyone's com and force them to do it :P

Dude! That's awesome! I'd use it as a mini board for watching movies in bed! A play/pause, rewind and fast forward. If I could add 'double click ' functions I'd overlap with volume up/down and mute. Good on you for the five away! I also have a few novelty keys that would get anew home...
And that's all I got to say about that.

Cool case!

Here's what I'm using right now:

It's pretty mushy feeling though, because I attached the PCB with hot glue. Your case looks much better, I'd love to have one.

I programmed mine to send F17, F18, F19.
And then had KeyboardRemap set it up like so:
Key = Play/Pause, VolUp, VolDown.
Shift + Key = Run/Stop, Step, Skip (XCode Debugger)
Ctrl + Other Key = Switch to Sublime, Switch to Terminal, Switch to Chrome
Cmd + Other Key = Switch to Photoshop, Mouse Sensitivity Down, Mouse Sensitivity Up

I original used states that I could switch to, so it didn't require modifiers - but it was really glitchy.

So. Currently  the only person who has actually suggested anything to do with the keyboard and case is frosty, and I'm not sure exactly how I'll get the case to Singapore, but is anyone else interested at all?

Edit: Nevermind. I'm an idiot. There are more responses. Will be selecting one later.

1.
3keys for logging in.
1 your real name
2 your email
3 your password

2.
Toggle sound level since my qfr needs to press 2 keys to change the volume which is frustrating
mute, Volume up, Volume down

3.
Play my favorite retro game PINBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!   :blank: :blank: :blank:
