The facility making the switch plates sent me some photos of a defect they caught (they're remaking the non-conforming plates) and I thought I'd share a photo because the plates are looking good!

Oh my god, I went with the mahjong green bottom white top combo as a sort of meme but holy **** you nailed the colour. It's going to be rough finding feet that look ok and a keycap set to match but I'm excited to see it in person!

I went with a black top stainless bottom and now i'm questioning it. That looks so clean. I bet GMK camping would look pretty good on that.

All the plates just came in and everything is fitting perfectly; the picture doesn't do it justice, but i think everyone will be really happy with how these turned out!

Now just to wait for the PCB's

July 27, 2020 - About 85% of the orders have shipped! A couple of the remaining orders have problems with addresses, and some others with quality issues which i will be talking to the supplier to fix!

I'm probably part of the 15% but if I recall correctly the google form didn't include an address input, would you be using the address from PayPal instead? This wouldn't work in my case since my PayPal address is in Canada where as I planed on having it shipped to my brother in the US (seeing as this GB was US only). Should I expect an email or something?

EDIT: Lol, just checked my junk mail... and it's in there :P replied thanks!

So how's that other 15% going? I still haven't gotten any emails so I'm not sure if my address had an error or anything.

I'm a little confused which switches are needed given the hot swap sockets. Which switches will work, PCB mounted, plate mounted, or either?

This is basically just the standard Kailh hot swap sockets. So any switch that work with them works here.

This uses plate mounted stabs

Well, I fell for it.  Somehow I missed that while this is a hotswap PCB, we have to solder those hotswap sockets in ourselves.  It never even occurred to me that someone would run a GB like that.

Given that Umio set the GB at an amazing price with shipping included, soldering the sockets are not bad at all. They're easier mill max imo.

Soldering the hotswap sockets is very easy, i can post a tutorial video for people who are concerned or do not have previous solder experience.
If you've had a non-hotswap PCB where you solder the switches in, it should be pretty trivial.

Good news! All the parts I caught doing quality control are being remade and should ship out to me on August 5th.

I'll try to ship them out as soon as I get them!

Which parts are those? Did that affect ones that already have shipped?

If you're shipping more of these, you might want to consider putting the sockets in something other than those plastic strips.  About half of mine were loose in the box when it got here.

Thanks for the feedback, i guess ill have to bag the others; maybe the strip adhesive came off with heat from travel?

Did everything else arrive ok?

Got my Mahjong in today! Everything arrived in great shape, well packaged (Thanks Umio1!), & the build was a very easy one. The only thing I have yet to figure out is how to reprogram it. In the OP Umio1 said to use the https://kbfirmware.com/ site to do it, but there is no preset layout for the Mahjong yet. Umio1, can I just make a json with the same layout in KLE then import it to the site for reprogramming mine or will that not work?

If you've had a non-hotswap PCB where you solder the switches in, it should be pretty trivial.
The video would be nice, but I think I could probably work from written steps as well.

What is the best way to solder hotswaps? Tin the contacts on the PCB, seat a socket and then heat to reflow? Or seat the socket, then solder?

Here is an example of soldering them without pretinning. Simply touch between the pad and the socket contact and add solder: similar to a through-hole but a bit tighter.

Just got mine today! Looks great. Only question I have is what method am I supposed to use to secure the emblem? It's just a loose piece. Am I supposed to glue it?

In the parts bag there should be 4 double sided VHB tape strips (the same used to hold car emblems on; you should only need 3 but I included an extra).

1. Undo one side of the tape strip and press it onto the cut-out circle of the bottom case (repeat 3 times)
2. remove the backing of the 3 tape strips
3. align the emblem and press it onto the tape strips

note: once you press the emblem in it will be near impossible to get out

no pad tinning required

1. apply flux to the pads if you have it
2. seat the socket making sure it does not block any threw-holes
3. press the soldering iron against the pad/socket metal
4. apply solder
