This looks terrific! Does the PCB support per switch LEDs? Also, what is the height of the front lip of the board? I love the design but I'm worried it could be tiresome on long typing sessions.Thks frist!
curious i was looking at the extra parts on ZF and no extra mid pieces? it would be cool to be able to buy a different colored insert/mid but i understand thats probably not practical. anyways i grabbed one,Tks frist, and I'll discuss with ZF to see if we can add the middle box as an additional option. :)

ill keep an eye out and if it's added ill add one or two to my order, thanks!
Ordered, but definitely interested in additional mid pieces as well.Thks frist.
I think I am set on the color, but is there any way to show the gray version of the housing?
I can't decide between STT and Basic layouts so I would be interested in an option for additional mid-pieces as well. This would make the color choice easier too.Thks frist.
During the IC I didn't really like this board but now I gotta admit, its growing on me. I might pick one up, red base and black middle seems like the way to go for me.Thank you, so glad you like HB85.
Do you know what it will cost to ship this to the United States? This thing looks heavy AF!And to EU :P also curious for an estimate.
Do you know what it will cost to ship this to the United States? This thing looks heavy AF!Ok, I'll check it out for you. But rest assured, because I've optimized a lot of the internal structure, so the HB85 isn't heavy. I've just weighed, all aluminum kit weighs 1.98kg;If you change the carbon plate it's a 1.93kg, plus the packing no more than 2.5kg.
Got any pictures of what the blue would look like? Might go for silver case and blue middle but don't have anything to work from now.OK, wait for me. I will render you a silver / blue photo for your reference.

Man, I love this design! I want this for KAM Wraith so hard. Will there be a Euro proxy? And also, is there a diagram showing supported layouts? To be honest, match the KAM Wraith, I think dark and plain collocation are better than other colours.
Holy cow this looks perfect for the SA Godspeed build I want to do :eek:Aha, I think like this wide border retro modeling keyboard is the most suitable to SA keycap.

I must say the design looks absolutely fantastic, one thing making me hesitant to join is that I don't need numpad nor F keys. Do you plan a 60% or 65% of similar design in the future?

Silver and Gray was my pick. But the Gray/Black is tempting. To be honest, these two colors(Silver&gray and Gray&black) are all very good.

I think he answered this in the IC thread. He said he would and I very much hope he does.
That Grey frame w/black mid would look so amazing with Modern Dolch. What a time to be broke :eek:It can only be said that gray and black are classics that never change. :p
hi sorry, if you explaiend this in the IC, read through it but didn't catch it. whats the point of the half plate vs the full plate?

I like silver-Gray more...
I just saw the built video from KeyClack on Youtube and I'm a bit confused with the key placement options for the modifier keys (ctrl, alt, super) on the right side of the spacebar.oops, layout is:
Is it possible to place two 1.25 keys and one 1.0 key there on the AOP version?
In the layout preview for AOP it looks like there are three 1.0 keys placed next to each other but that wouldn't work with SA Lime since it doesn't have the R3 keys in that size.
Edit: A higher resolution image of the PCB might be helpful for this.
Edit No.2: I took a close look at all pictures and it seems that the bottom row is 16.25 keys wide. With the STT layout having a 0.25 spacing between the left arrow and the rightmost modifier key.
So it should be possible to fit two 1.25 keys and a 1.0 key next to a 6.25 spacebar on the AOP layout. Or have I miscalculated that? :)
Layout would be:
1.25 1.25 6.25 1.25 1.0 1.25 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0
oops,layout is:
STT 1.25 1.25 6.25 1.25 1.25(0.5 block) 1 1 1 1
AOP 1.25 1.25 6.25 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
The bottom-right blocker length is shorter in this render than on the Basic mockup or prototype pictures.Oh, my fault. This is the case, the rendering is the old version (just to show the effect has not been updated, sorry), the layout diagram is a new version.

I'll ask ZF's customer service. But it may take hours to get back to you (it's 11 p.m. in China now, it's off work and it's going to be back in the morning)]

No joystick cluster NO DEALTime for some modding, then?
Does anybody how long it usually takes the support to answer mails?
I sent them a question about 3 days ago and still no answer.
Id say that sounds about normal. I had a missing keycap from a JTK set I bought from them, and a representative (not bot) responded to me only after 6 days.
Once they do respond, theyre really helpful though.

I also replied to their autoreply yesterday to maybe bump the ticket in their support system but still nothing.
Getting ignored by the support is not really cool since the GB ends in a few days. :(
Anybody know another way of how I can contact them?

Yeah 6 days won't help at all since the GB ends in 4 days...
Edit: Guess I won't buy the board then. For such high-priced products I was expecting a little bit better support...
Sorry, man.I really don't know what problems you are referring to.
If it's about the MAXKEY, I can't help you either, because I don't know them more than you.
If it is the color of the case, I rember I have sent you many pictures.

Thank you

While this hasn't been clarified, the PCB clearly supports through hole leds for each switch and since it uses Bootmapper at the very least I think one will be able to adjust led brightness through the utility

quakemz (topclack) did a stream where he built a prototype version of the HB85.
The indicator LEDs are through hole (if I remember correctly he put some 3mm LEDs in there in the stream). The IC thread has a pic of the PCB (last one in the first post): https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=97216.0

The final version is different from that one (it will also be black instead of green)
I see status has updated to 'all sent to ZF', does that mean that shipping is imminent??
Just posting again that I would love to buy one of these off if someone. Let me know if you want to give yours up. I see they are shipping soon. Thanks.
Getting mine sent in the box, i feel good packaging is part of the fun, very excited now and look forward to more GB from Gray Studio.
I just paid for shipping without the box (62 USD). I considered the box but to be honest, while it looks cool, I think it also increases the possibility of customs charging extra during import...

yeah i think thats the latest one i found too. but i have not flashed with it yet. i've been investigating whether this will work with QMK and i think its doable, i'm still coding it so we'll see if i can get it working with QMK in the end. i think bootmapper is fine, but i'm not happy that its so old and that winkeyless are closed now.
good job getting one! i noticed on mine that the key assignments were not quite right either. how close is your keymap now? screenshot of bootmapper?
the trick with this PCB is that the matrix is not in order, it starts in the middle of the keyboard and wraps around for each (physical) row, so the easiest way to reassign is to find a known key on your map and then count forward or backwards and re-assign the key.

also possible that one of the LEDs are burned out. typically these RGB LEDS are in a chain and if 1 goes out the rest in the line will go out. i'm not 100% sure how the signal passes down the chain, but my first step would be to take a multimeter and see if the signal or voltage stops at some point in the chain. go LED by LED and see if you get a signal and then see if it drops out.
someone else on discord mentioned that they burned out their LEDs by static, so they are quite sensitive. i just soldered 24 of these for another board over the weekend, and even being super careful i burned out 3-4 of them so they are not very tough to heat or static....

Also, here is a typing test if anyone is interested. Tealios v2 lubed with 3204, with spring swap (Sprit v1.2 progressive 72g).
Zeal clear stabs lubed with super lube and bandaid mod (in hindsight I probably wouldn't bandaid mod these again as it muffles the shorter stabbed keys, like Backspace, more than I'd like).
GMK WoB keycaps. Multiple layers of shelf liner inside. Typing test directly on a mahogany desk, with the rubber feet installed.
Paypal dispute opened with ZFrontier. Still haven't received shipping invoice or my board.

Not sure what you mean - I believe that it the main QMK repo, so it stands to reason it's testing and working. I will try it later with my spare pcb.
Perhaps this is what mechmerlin kindly did when he used my board to port it over to qmk? I've been travelling so didn't get a chance to watch his stream.
Okay. So I followed merlin's instructions to the T mentioned here https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/tree/master/keyboards/gray_studio/hb85 and flashed the AOP layout for my board perfectly. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the guide and the port. I can confirm that it works.
@oldcat @rooski, mrpetrov was kind enough to lend me this board while I did some work on it. The new changes were done on the recent episodes of https://www.twitch.tv/mechmerlin
The original contributor is fcoury (misterkeebs on youtube) the guy who ported the Alice over.
The changes merged into master today include
1. QMK Configurator support
2. Support for the 3 layouts mentioned in the GB (stt, basic, aop), and a fourth that contains all possible positions (stt+basic+aop combined).
3. Readme reorgnization which tells how to get this board flashed and working with qmk (You need to eeprom reset it).
You can try out the QMK configurator here: https://config.qmk.fm/#/gray_studio/hb85/LAYOUT_all
Dare I ask if there are any extras? I need this in my life.

Airpotter/oldcat - any chance of releasing the plate files please for the HB85 - I would like to see if there is interest in organizing an FR4 plate for it. Thanks!

Seconded. :)
i have a weird problem, i tested my pcbs and they were fine, so i built one, tested it again and now it seems borked. if i test it in keyboard tester it wont work properly on the num pad there al scrambled like arrow keys and stuff, but if i go into bootmapper and download the layout its fine and tests fine, tried to type on the internet or anything and its borked and not typing proper all the numbers are arrow keys and no matter how i reflash it its the same., any idea what the issue could be.It's on QMK now. Some of the PCBs have key mappings all over the place. Flash it using QMK. Putting it into reset mode and all related instructions are on there.
do i need to put the pcb in boot mode? if so how do i? i dont see a reset switch?
well this has turned into a nightmare, cant figure out qmk tbh bootmapper is so much easier, i still dont know how to put the board into reset mode and havent been able to flash it, everything is still borked.Reset mode is keeping F3 pressed while inserting the USB cable IIRC.
still nothing, goes into reset, open qmk config and cant flash my hex, or any hex i make. says no device connected getting tired of ****ing with this thing

HB85 is not flashable using usual QMK methods. Here are the instruction on the QMK repository for this board:
ps2avr(GB) boards use an atmega32a microcontroller and a different bootloader. It is not flashable using the regular QMK methods.
**Reset Key:** Hold down the key located at `K00`, commonly programmed as F3 while plugging in the keyboard.
Windows:
1. Download [HIDBootFlash](http://vusb.wikidot.com/project:hidbootflash).
2. Place your keyboard into reset.
3. Press the `Find Device` button and ensure that your keyboard is found.
4. Press the `Open .hex File` button and locate the `.hex` file you created.
5. Press the `Flash Device` button and wait for the process to complete.
