Honestly you really don't need a solder station that fancy.  A cheap soldering iron is fine, so long as it has some sort of temperature control.

I know the fan is overkill. But then I looked at the 6 keyboard kits in my receipts and thought, "why not dude"

I've had some recommend this one as well for a solder sucker. Never owned it myself though.

As for the soldering station, I really can't see anyone going for anything less than a Hakko.
A station that likely won't burn your board or your hands is going to run $50, so just go that extra little bit to ensure that the things which are way more expensive than your soldering station are in good hands.

Tools are fun, and make projects enjoyable to see through to the end.

DIY is rarely cheap, as it is hard to compete with the economies of scale in mass production.

Revel in it, and take pride in your makerspace, however it is kitted out  :thumb:
