Decent65
By soran & Stormlex

What, why and who?

The general idea behind the Decent65 was making a classic top mount 65 percent keyboard, which would have the looks while still maintaining a not over the top price. So this is a no-fuss, low height board with bezels on the thicker side.
It was born from an idea of mine and have been brought to life by soran - who was responsible for doing the actual design work.
Designed, engineered and manufactured in Europe. The prototype seen in the pictures is made by Salvun, https://www.instagram.com/salvun/, who also will be making the final product.

Features
  • 65% keyboard with blocker at arrows
  • 6060 aluminum case
  • Anodization color options: black, gray and silver, burgundy/dark red and purple
  • Semi-fixed aluminum plate in either ANSI or ISO (Plate files will be released if people want to have them made in other materials)
  • Top mount
  • 7 degrees angle
  • Bottom front ledge to keep the front low, just shy of 16 mm (without bumpons)
  • Standardized ai03 daughter board with USB C
  • Alignment pins for top and bottom
  • No internal or external weight
  • 1.11 kg (Case+plate) and around 1.4 kg built
  • QMK-compatible PCB with JST connector for daughter board
  • Manufactured by Salvun in Belgium
Estimated pricing
(excl. shipping)
US and RotW: $255
EU: €275 (Incl. VAT)

The group buy is intended to be run through mykeyboard.eu, who also will be handling QC, after IC is concluded and decisions has been made.

Please fill out the IC form if you are interested in buying this keyboard, if you are interested in optional cerakoting and/or would like to suggest any additions.

Thanks goes out to:
  • soran – for the excellent design work and ideas
  • NecromanX & NecrowomanX – for taking care of a lot of stuff and agreeing to run this on mykeyboard.eu
  • Salvun – for his machining skills and overall great dude
  • Zambumon – "No. Use a daughter board"

..and yes, I noticed that the down arrow in one of the pictures wasn't properly seated.

Thank you for considering.

Update 2020-03-14

1) After some brainstorming, we have decided that the available anodisation colours are going to be:
  • Black
  • Grey
  • Burgundy
  • Dark Purple

2) Since I felt that it should be addressed - cerakoting should be around 50€ on top of the GB price.

3) Hotswap, rgb or changes to the top (winkeyless, removing blocker) - are out of question. That part of the design has be finalized.

Update 2020-03-26

The prototype was sent to soran, got lost due to corona lockdown in Poland, got found again and is now in the hands of soran.
There will hopefully be a build-stream done by him shortly.

We (or well NecromanX atleast) are currently also working on a US/NA proxy since that has been some comments on that in the IC form.

Stay tuned

Update 2020-04-04

We have an approximate go-live date fellas!
April 18:th is the goal to get this started, and there is now an US proxy onboard; the esteemed NovelKeys.
Last but not least: a typing test done by soran himself. Check it out:

Update 2020-04-16

IC form is now closed since groupbuy will be live Saturday 18/4.

Update 2020-04-17

since you're going with alum plate as a standard, any chance in putting some flex cuts in the PCB to help soften out the downstroke even more?  Something similar to Wilba's WT60 shown here:

It's a good point, but since we aim for decent, no-fussyness, it might be a bit overkill. But your point is noted.

Nice board. I'm puzzled by the bezels, though. Are they uniform or is there a slight difference in bezel width between the top+bottom and left+right ones? Aside from that, my only complaint would be the visible seam on the side, but I guess making a seamless design is a bit more costly, due to increased material and machining costs.

To answer your question about the bezels, yes, the top one is actually bigger by 3mm when compared to the bottom and sides.

That wouldn't really change that much, but if you want to get a different plate material, we will be releasing the files for them once the groupbuy is done!

And I'd like to also include a response to some of the replies in the form:
1) as of now, we aren't planning on having the PCBs be hotswap nor have them have RGB.
2) for reference on the cerakote pricing, here is a screencap of Salvun's post in his channel on mykeyboard's discord server.
3) no plans for weight or different case material.
4) anodisation colours will stay as they are - we wanted to be rather safe with that.
5) We won't be changing the mount, sorry.

very nice board will be keeping an eye on this one.. Love 65% guys  :thumb:

Can i still ask for wants or is this a done deal ??

- can we get indicator leds like on the NK65.. but top side ,, instead of side.. but really any thing is better then nothing location doesn't matter..
3 leds will do.. capsLock + 2 level indicator lights really handy..

- can we get SMD per switch RGB having it on my NK65 really adds nice underglow did not realize how much i would like it..

Nothing more to want.. as i'm in The Netherlands.. shipping and VAT would not be an issue ..
only explaining to my wife i need / want another 65% board.. lost count how many i have hahahahahahahahhaha.. still love the bezels.. nice thick

Hi there readers, coming in with an update regarding the GB:

1) After some brainstorming, we have decided that the available anodisation colours are going to be:
Black
Grey
Burgundy
Dark Purple

2) Since I felt that it should be adressed - cerakoting should be around 50€ on top of the GB price.

3) Saying it for the last time here - hotswap, rgb or changes to the top (winkeyless, removing blocker) - are out of question. That part of the design has be finalised.

We are yet to receive info about the groupbuy date, so stay tuned for that.
