[IC] PBT Modern Hangul
« on: Mon, 27 April 2020, 10:00:22 »
Introduction

안녕하세요!

I've been working on this set for a while, and I'm super excited to introduce PBT Modern Hangul

Here is the original KLE. I will be using proper OG icon mods, so please ignore the text mods! (More on sublegends below)

Inspiration/Naming

With a name like Modern Hangul, it only makes sense that the set is clean and minimal, with a splash of colour. I started by wanting a monochrome kit made in PBT. Red and blue are deeply personal colours and add a lot of personality to a rather minimal set. Since these two colours have followed me throughout the years, I wanted to bring them to my keycaps as well. I've really come to enjoy these two colours, and I hope that you will too! All colours are either Pantone or RAL.

I noticed that we have a distinct lack of Hangul kits, so I've decided to make those the default legends in this set. However, if there is enough interest in the IC phase, I will strongly consider adding in regular alphas as well! I'm trying to have this made in PBT, and I am currently waiting to hear back from HammerWorks CRP as well as ePBT to decide which PBT manufacturer I will go with. The black mods have been purposely chosen to be lighter than previous attempts at reverse dye-subbed black keycaps, so they should be a fair bit easier to achieve.

Sublegends

As shown in the KLE, I'd love to aim for grey sublegends to stay true to the minimal design and to have the main legends be the primary focus. They're sublegends after all! Initial renders don't show this, so I will work on that ASAP. Additionally, I'd like to ask for your feedback on the inclusion of sublegends on the mods. Is that something you would want?

Kits

Considering the large number of kits that most keycap sets have, I wanted to keep it nice and simple, while including the maximum amount of compatibility in the main sets. I'm open to feedback for the kits, so if you have any suggestions, please remember to fill out the form at the bottom of this post!

Base

Base kit supports pretty much every standard layout from 60% and up, minus full-size and Alice.

Numpad/ISO

Numpad and ISO kit together for my European and full-size friends :)

Spacebars

Spacebars kit adds a bit more colour, as well as support for Alice-style boards.

June 12, 2020:

After speaking with my preferred manufacturer, they will not be able to start making these sets until Q4 at the earliest, due to extra preparations needed. In the interest of pushing forward a higher quality product, I’ve decided to wait until then. In the meantime, I will be working on finalizing kits for this set, collaborations, deskmats, and other necessary designs. Make sure to join my discord channel for the latest updates on this, as well as other projects! https://discord.gg/64rZMEB

FAQ

WoB Esc/Enter keys for that monochrome colourway

That's already in the base kit! Check the renders :)

What do sublegends on mods look like?

I have attached the KLE near the top of the IC. Here it is again!

Neat. I wonder if Hanmerworks will actually take a stab at reverse dyesublimation as I haven't yet seen them do it.

Best of luck! I'll keep an eye on this interest check.

Sorry to tell you this but Leopold and Ducky already sell really great PBT doubleshot caps on their keyboards in a variety of color schemes for about the same price (or less) as you are probably going to ask just for caps - ie around $110 - $120 - For example:

I'd be ecstatic if somebody could do Hangul caps like this fantastic render from a couple of years ago (that never happened):

Do Leopold and Ducky sell the caps on their own with good layout support? Or are you saying you can get a Leopold or Ducky with Hangul sublegend keycaps for the same price as a kit?

Looks absolutely amazing! Love the monochrome base with blue red accents because they really pop against the rest of the set. Definitely a must buy spacebar kit just for accenting other sets.

What is the point of buying a leopold keyboard with  keycaps that only supports said board?
This set supports multiple layouts including whatever ducky and leopold board you buy.
You cannot really compare them.

Agree. You could say the same for any keysets being run.

Yes, I'm saying the keyboards come with great caps similar to this IC.

What if people want to put this set on their Rukia, Alice, or split-key keyboards? Or, what if those keycap qualities are not actually great?

People want a kit to fit their own custom keyboards, not buy an entire keyboard that they will only use for keycaps.
Even if it was fully supported, why would you encourage so much product waste?
All that additional material that goes into making those OEM boards might not cost you money, but its environmentally damaging.

What a great 5Head take.

Feedback noted, it's an IC after all!

I might just have to start doing all the different kinds of ISO in this case, hmm
