It's been a while since I've had to type so vigorously like that, but trying to keep quiet so I didn't wake up my roommate, I got this.

i'm somewhere around 80-90 wpm, less if it's punctuation heavy, more if it's just plain text that i'm typing from my brain.

I don't think I could transcribe at that speed.

I average about 54Wpm. I've never had to speed type though. Generally when I'm programming I spend a lot of time thinking and very little actually typing.

If you guys are playing typeracer/ 10fast "regular"mode, those score is totally worthless

Try out Advance mode, that's a way more realistic appraisal of true typing prowess..

Around 120wpm sustained, but that's what I do for a living.

I haven''t used any of those sites everyone has mentioned.

I tried that "Ten Fast Fingers" website and find it odd it doesn't include either punctuation or numbers?  Any one have any idea, why this would be the case?  Letter's alone is not an indicator of how fast people type the languages.

Btw - has anyone considered creating a typing technique sub forum on here, given that it is all keyboard focused?

Do you think there would be interest for that type of thing?

Some of these posts make me feel better about my typing speed, but others show me how much faster I could be :x

I average 90-100 on typeracer and easily type that fast if not faster when I know what I want to say.

That's why some of us are more reasonable when quoting our numbers and use tests that include text from published sources, like typeracer! 10FF ftl, imo

Me too. I find that if I slow down a little and focus on accuracy rather than speed, I actually end up with a higher WPM. Mistakes slow you down more than whatever increase in speed you're getting from moving your fingers faster.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.

134wpm is my best so far. Tested on typrX (probably my most favorite out of the ones I've tried). I managed to get 127wpm on TypeRacer. This was with a crappy Dell rubber dome keyboard packaged with their desktops while I was at school. My speeds drop a bit because I rarely use my Filco Majestouch Black with Cherry MX Blues (and a JIS layout) because I'm not used to the feeling, but it feels great. I need to start learning DVORAK.

My average is 96 on typeracer and my highest is something like 110. However, my accuracy isn't the best. I read ahead of what I'm typing so the word I'm reading tends to mix with the word I'm typing.

Edit: I just did a run on 10FF on my laptop. Here's my result:

If your accuracy is <95%, you're trying to type faster than your body is currently ready for. You want to go for that balance between speed and control.

Your speed: 127 wpm  Time: 0:25  Accuracy: 87.2%
Your speed: 119 wpm  Time: 0:38  Accuracy: 80.6%

Accuracy is not my strongest suit.  I think if the key spacing were between a desktop keyboard and a laptop keyboard it would help with accuracy.

for sure.  my excuse is that, they give a bunch of random words.  on other typing tests, you can anticipate what is coming next which is easier!

I've been at ~90 for the last decade. Fast enough for my purposes, and whenever I go faster than that for sustained periods my hands start hurting.

*EDIT*: I guess I am a little faster than I used to be:

Idk I type a little bit faster on blues and much more accurately, but that's just because I'm more used to them. I'm sure I'll be at the same level or even more efficient once I get used to ergo clears. Just.. practice and type a lot I guess... I work as a professional typist so that helps.

I'm pretty pathetic at about 45. I think I'd be faster if I didn't have to go back and keep fixing my mistakes, I tried teaching myself colemak but I haven't had the time or commitment yet to really get the hang of it.
