09/13/2023 -- Due to recent fluctuations in foreign exchange rates since the initial pricing announcement, vendors have found it necessary to adjust the cost of the GMK Underworld ‘Base Kit’ from $135 to $139.99. (USD)
I understand that this increase may come as a surprise, especially being so last minute. I value transparency and so I would like to apologize for this last-minute change, I was only informed of this recently myself. I hope this is the final last-minute change I will have to do for this project. Most of the vendor’s pages of the keyset are already live as I am making this post (you still cannot purchase until the 15th) so I will be updating the geekhack post with currencies very soon!
I appreciate your understanding and continued support for GMK Underworld. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this pricing update, please don't hesitate to reach out to me in the thread or in discord dms. 09/26/2023 -- I would like to provide a brief update and announcement regarding GMK Underworld.
Some of you may already be aware of an issue that has affected GMK keycap sets produced after 2021, particularly concerning texture inconsistencies. These issues have been more noticeable on darker GMK sets, but even lighter sets have not been exempt. In an effort to address this matter, I reached out to GMK directly and expressed my concerns, (I asked Popkorn like a little kid with a dropped ice cream cone). GMK has responded, acknowledging that these texture discrepancies are due to wear and tear on their molds. I want to assure you all that I take the quality of GMK Underworld seriously, and I am committed to ensuring that it meets the high standards that we can expect from GMK.
Solutions:
I am pleased to inform you that samples of GMK Underworld will begin shipping to me already, and I will not only be confirming color accuracy but also working diligently to achieve the level of texture quality that aligns with GMK's standards. GMK has further informed me that they have replaced the old molds, and while it is "highly likely" that the texture issues have been resolved, it is not an absolute guarantee. GMK Lilac on Black will be the set to watch, as it was the first set using the swapped-out molds.
GMK themselves have indicated a lead time commitment of six months from now. I hold a cautiously optimistic outlook on this, and I just wanted to be transparent to you all about the situation. I appreciate your patience and support as we strive to deliver the best product possible. I trust that this effort will strengthen your confidence in this project and encourage you to consider consuming product™️
10/13/2023 -- GB is being extended 1 extra week, it will now end on 10/22/2023.
11/08/2023 -- All kit have hit moq, and all numbers have been submitted to GMK. GMK and deskmat samples are on the way to me right now. Estimated lead time of 6 months seems to be accurate for now.
12/07/2023 -- Samples approved, I am getting some more samples on the way to show u guys what the gold color would look like as a pad print, so stay tuned for that.
01/01/2024 -- Pad print samples are also approved, we are now just fully waiting for GMK to produce the set now!
02/03/2024 -- Set should be finished production end of this month and shipping to vendors in March.
03/06/2024 -- Set is done and on route to vendors.
04/04/2024 -- Fulfillment of the project has started and almost concluded with certain vendors.
