More noticeable Read/Unread method
« on: Mon, 12 November 2012, 23:31:03 »
I know we used to use bold/normal font... which worked great. The tiny little orange icon isn't cutting it imo. Its quite a pain to tell which ones are unread when they all look unread. >.>

Yes? No? Dave go get back to work?

I asked for this in the feature request thread.

It's been bugging me too.  SMF uses bold for stickies, but I still am not used to this.  Bold is probably better served as an unread cue.

Just for the sake of argument, the "Unread" page isn't ;)  (Nostalgia theme)

edit: not that I think it needs to be... seeing as how the whole page should be only unread topics.

Ah, yes.  That would be a different php script.  I'll fix that, too...though it's a little redundant there and also in spy.  But for the sake of consistency it makes sense.

What is the difference between Unread and Spy?

Unread/new/etc is part of the SMF template.  Spy is buggy add-on.  mkawa has fixed it up to get it working the way it does.  Adding bold to it shouldn't be a problem.

The Spy is supposed to be constantly updating, it works alright...could use some tweaking. The unread is not updating in live time.

I like "unread" a lot more since almost all forums have it. Spy is weird

I don't use either. I constatly reload the front page, pop into a sub marked unread and check which threads have something new, then repeat...

I do this, mainly due to inertia.  It is a technique that works on most forums.

Maybe I should check out the spy ...

^I tried it, but it just didn't feel the same, so went back to doing what is pretty much second nature. My mouse is programmed to do this so well. F5 on one button, Ctrl+W on another, middle click. I fly through pages.
