From Scratch Keyboard Build Process
« on: Thu, 24 March 2016, 12:42:39 »
I finally finished writing up my build as a blog post.
I wrote it as a step-by-step overview of how I did it. There are pretty pictures too!

That's really nice looking, just the kind of thing I'd want for a portable keyboard.

I'm always jealous how almost everyone else seems to have access to a laser cutter  :(

Note: BYU grad 2012 :D

I know right, everyone talks about their laser cutter.

Interesting layout but that looks extremely uncomfortable to me. I am trying to bend my thumbs to reach that far down to that cluster.  :))  still nice work

It is actually pretty comfy. It is designed so I never have to leave home row. I do have fairly large hands, though.
Anyway, I love it.

For those without a laser cutter, I will be doing a 3D printed version as soon as I get my kickstarter printer. I will post that one when I finish it.

Yeah cause 3D printers are much cheaper and easier to come by  :p

3D printers seem to be a bit more common to me. My work has one and the school has 4 or 5 in different departments and work rooms. Both cutters and printers are getting pretty cheap, though. There are some that could get the job done for less than $400. That ain't much more than a game console, and you could make some money back after you get it.  ;)

I thought the same thing LOL.

DC has 3d printing services in some of the public libraries but Ive never taken advantage of those tax dollars yet.

Turns out that while the local college doesn't allow non-student access to the laser cutter, they do give public access to the 3D printer.

Yeah, that makes sense. The 3D printer is probly 1/4 if not 1/10 the price!
