Running out of HDD space
« on: Thu, 14 December 2017, 13:00:45 »
Jesuz.. I prepared for this , I knew UHD-Blurays were coming out at ~50gb a pop..

But dang...  Drive space filling up fast.... Unexpected rate or releases...  Current calculations put me @ maximum capacity within 3 months..

Anyone know where I could buy one of these ?

All of the k's! 8k is where it is at.

Also you could buy a few of these as well as an off the shelf NAS or build your own FreeNas system.

zettabyte ? no way.

What? You would only need to store it in the clouds and purchase 1,300,000,000 10 TB drives.

Large files can be sliced into smaller segments for archival purposes.

Since it may not be cost effective to back up every UHD Bluray movie at 50 GB a piece, I would recommend using video transcoding software such as handbrake to compress your videos. Also you could also look into getting a Bluray burner and media.

You could still use standard 25 GB discs by splitting a 50 GB file in half.  :thumb:

This is why we can't have unlimited internet everywhere.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
