After a great many years working with computers, I've given myself the much-needed push to finally LEARN HOW TO TYPE... after all, what better way to inspire ones-self to stop hunting and pecking than to put your wallet in the game.

Here's to hopefully learning, growing, and (very likely) sharing in a brand new obsession, cheers!

You'll probably find that switch and keyboard layout become more critical when you are trying to type properly.  Hunt and peck doesn't really have a formal hand position, so you can get used to hitting the keys in whatever way works best for you.  But proper touch-typing has its rules and practices, and depending on how long you've been hunting/pecking could take a while to learn.

I should probably touch type more - I know how to, but sometimes it's still easier to use a weird style that I taught myself before I knew there was a proper way to type )

Thanks Rowdy! With the number of years that I've typed the way I do, I'm pretty sure that I'm facing an uphill battle... although I find that having a hobby or passion that coincides/overlaps with what you are trying to learn makes the journey just a bit easier. I figure by throwing myself into learning more about keyboards themselves, maybe do some modding, and perhaps a custom build... tinkering that I generally enjoy, I will keep myself focused while I make the climb.

Thanks csmertx. I didn't plan to learn an alternative layout like Dvorak or Colemak initially... just sticking with common QWERTY. I had however planned on using a full-size kb but was just gifted a white Vortex Pok3r... not sure if a 60% is a good place to begin? Will it matter?

I'm not sure if a 60% keyboard will matter tbh. I tried Dvorak off and on, but I've been touch typing qwerty for nearly 17 years so I'll either have to dedicate a month to Dvorak to really see if I like it or just stick with qwerty haha. You'll have to use a lot of Fn hotkeys on the 60% but maybe that'll help with burning the qwerty layout into your memory? I'm not a programmer so I still look down at the keyboard for simple html/shortcuts /shrug
