A couple Cherry G80-11900LUMEU-2 for $18 or $16
« on: Wed, 19 September 2012, 18:57:49 »
TechForLess has a couple G80-11900LUMEU-2's For $18.49. There is also a 12% off code (which may or may not work) which drops the price to $16.27. They also seem to have free shipping as well.

I have no idea what kind of switches these have, but a little searching indicates that they probably have MX blacks. These are PCB mount boards, so it shouldn't be hard to do stem and spring swaps.

Seems like a really good deal. What kind of keys do they normally have on them? I picked one up with the coupon and shipping was free.

Well there were originally just three of them. I bought one and then posted this thread. I'm not particularly surprised that they sold out at this price as they would be worth it just for parts.

I was lucky enough to order one of these. I guess someone cancelled the order and I grabbed the cancelled one.

I received the board today and I like it pretty much. It has black switches, but for some reason it doesn't feel as stiff as my other blacks.

Also, I got to experience the difference between vintage and modern black myself. I am pretty sure there are multiple variants of black switches, so vintage and modern may be not an accurate classification, but there are certainly differences between so called vintage and modern blacks, or at least I could say there are significant differences between black switches. The modern black has very similar feel to red switches. Of course they have different springs, but the grainy feel of the reds can be felt in the modern black switches. Anyways.. I cannot really complain when shipped price is less than $17.

Thanks! OP!

I got mine too, and it has pom keys I am pretty sure. I thought it was pad printed because the legends are elevated above the keycaps to where you can feel it. Would I be better off parting out the switches and using the keycaps on another board or keeping it intact? For $16 roughly I can't complain.

If the spacebar is PBT that means the rest of the keys are too? Also can these be modded with different controllers to enable NKRO or at least something better than 2KRO?

I thought they were lasered and infilled on the POM. I have a set of cherry POM and it's really nice. I suspect the spacebar is POM as well, but there haven't been any good techniques (other than the estimation of the coefficient of friction) to differentiate POM and PBT.

I think cherry used the same moulds for POM and PBT (because they have similar shrinkages, I suspect) so even if it says "PBT" on the bottom the doesn't mean it is.

To enable NKRO, you need a set of diodes and a controller that is expecting them. You could wire all the switches and diodes to a teensy if you want, but it'd take a bit of work. I suppose desoldering them all and replacing the jumpers with diodes, then wiring the matrix to a teensy is a good option, too.

I got mine today. I must admit that when I saw the condition "refurbished" on their site, I expected something more on the order of "used". What I got however, looks brand new (aside from the box it came in, that thing was really beat up). It's nice to be pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, I think I will look into doing a switch/spring swap on this board, as I already have a board with blacks.
