Why leave GMK?
My plan for this set was always to run through GMK. Why? Because it was ironic. But recently GMK has been very unappealing as a manufacturer.
We originally requested quotes in September of 2021 and even until now, they have not given any sort of update or response other than the typical 'we're working on it' (just paraphrasing).
I finally decided that enough was enough, and that if I couldn't trust them with something as simple as communicating about quotes, it was time to take matters into my own hands and give the people what they want.

Gonna be a debbie downer here and point out that the best thing about GMK is their color matching, and that it's kind of pointless to pay a premium for blank black or white keycaps.

I want this... but I hope it's easier and faster for GMK to produce a set if it's blanks? The thought of waiting a year or 2 for blanks is a hard proposal (but seems easy to imagine actually happening with GMK).I don't have a definite answer, but yes, I'd imagine it would be much easier for them to produce a set of blanks. I'm 90% sure if this set were to run, it wouldn't take as long for GMK to produce as normal sets. Also, this only uses stock colors, so some time should be saved since GMK doesn't have to color match.

Your kitting also does not reflect the two thirds of people preferring mods and alphas to be different colors, again because your IC isn't asking that question. ErgoDox-style users again aren't even considered. If you need inspiration I'd recommend looking at least at the MT3 3277 blank sets or take a look at my kitting, but beware that I am running a uniform profile, so it is a bit easier for me to accommodate for more people.
You are also not rerunning all the popular colors of the previous GBs, which were: CR full, N9 alpha + 2U Spacebar, L9 mods, WS1 alpha, TU2 alpha, DY full.

-Here's a few of the main reasons why I consider this a "formal" IC/GB as opposed to previous blanks groupbuys that have ran:
- In previous groupbuys, you would have to choose what keys you wanted, in what row, in what color, in what size. The difference is I wanted this set to have formal kitting, using base kits rather than having to pick and choose keys.
- Also, the previous groupbuys were run and fulfilled by 1 person (with the help of Mykeyboard.eu), and had to charge higher shipping rates when shipping internationally. This set, however, would run through vendors, which lowers the cost of shipping and increases the availabilty of the set to multiple regions.
Your IC form is sadly lacking. If my IC for blank caps is any indication a third up to half of in blanks interested people use sub 60% keyboards with the biggest sub group being 40% ortho (think Planck) users. Your kitting does not reflect that and as a 40s user myself would be the reason to not consider joining the GB.

ErgoDox-style users again aren't even considered.
As I've previously mentioned, I will be adding a ergodox kit, so maybe don't jump to conclusions ;) Still though, similar to 40s, ergo is a lesser-used layout (even lesser-used than 40s), and the vast majority of GMK sets don't support ergo, so it wouldn't be out of the blue if I weren't to support it.
You are also not rerunning all the popular colors of the previous GBs, which were: CR full, N9 alpha + 2U Spacebar, L9 mods, WS1 alpha, TU2 alpha, DY full.
First, CR is being ran, not sure how you missed that. When it comes to the other colors, there are only so many kits you can run with GMK. Maybe for later rounds I can add more colors, but having that many base kits is incredibly unrealistic with GMK MOQs.

Yes, I can add that in future updates, but for now: everything in the CMYK and RGB mods is r4, meant to replace the shift, alt, and ctrl keys. Macro kits go from r1 to r4, and the base kit is pretty self explanatory.

From what I can tell, the doubleshots and the blanks are the same thickness (or very very close). It looks like on the doubleshots the outer shell is thinner to account for the inner mold adding thickness.
I don't know about the mass and sound difference, but I would imagine that yes, different mass keycaps would affect the sound. I don't have a scale percise enought to weight a blank vs a doubleshot, but it may be something I want to look into in the future.

I 100% understand leaving GMK. Overall (and not just for you) communication has been sh*t; waiting times are ever increasing (many sets that initially had a 12 months ETA, to be delivered on Q1/2022, now are expected at Q4/2022, for at least a 20 month waiting time overall). Also, with this hobby getting more attention, many more manufactures are commming up.Yeah, GMK has definitely been getting worse recently.
But, I know nothing abouth KBM. For black/white blanks, I don't think colors will be an issue, and we do not have to worry about the quality of the font either. But, what profile do they use? Where can I find more information on them?

As for KBM, they use cherry, so that won't be changing. To be fair I think the original appeal was to get to try GMK caps for cheaper, so switching over kind of changes the scope. Not fan of it now being PBT but the colors are still pretty good so I might still try.
Agreed, the point was originally to run through GMK, and that's where the majority of the hype came from. Unfortunately, since we could not communicate with GMK (they continued to ghost us), the obvious and reasonable answer was to produce the set through another manufacturer.

What blanks does KBM use? Are they similar to some other manufacturers? Yes, from what I can see from your booty pic (https://i.imgur.com/IwgQkE9.png) and this picture (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/867555380158136390/967952248002981938/KBM3.jpeg) of a sample from KBM, they seem to be the same blanks as other manufacturers.
edit: as you can tell from the photo, KBM uses 1.7mm thick plastic, I can't tell a difference in thickness by eyeballing it, but hopefully it's a bit better than the 1.4-1.5mm mentioned in your writeup

Well damn, that is a bigass base then. I’m not sure how comfortable non-ergo users are having ergo keys they won’t use, and ergo users having full mods + numpad they won’t use. Seems like a lose-lose to me. The ergo buyer in particular ends up with way too many unused keys. I suppose they could sell them off, but selling leftover mod blanks without alphas isn’t easy either.
Personally, I would much prefer split kitting (an ergo base kit), even if the cost were to increase a little per key. I could probably buy someone’s leftover ergo mods instead, but I wouldn’t really want to without matching alphas because of sound and colour differences between blanks. Even if the colour matches GMK 100%, I don’t think people will be that happy to mix sets because of the material differences. Just a thought.

Blanks is still going to run eventually, the past few months we've been waiting on samples which have taken a lot longer than expected. Once samples arrive and quality is confirmed we can move ahead with confirming the run date and other things
