[Interest Check] Full TKL acrylic dust cover
« on: Sat, 23 June 2012, 15:58:03 »
Just an Interest check for a TKL Acrylic keyboard dust cover. Similar to the Filco covers but for a TKL. High enough to support those Clickclacks and other weird height keys. The idea is this to be cheaper than the Filco covers and a better fit. The company that can make these is UK based. (Acrylic Design)
Hopefully the more that order the cheaper it becomes, to get a real price ill first need interest.

Will be made from 5mm thick clear acrylic with welded sides. None of the bending rubbish!

£22\$35 ea. for 10+ orders
Plus
UK shipping - £5
Europe shipping - £7 or €9~
USA shipping - £12 or $18~

Hopefully shipping costs will come down, as I've estimated the weight of the product and packaging, as well as if more orders are made, i guess the covers will be cheaper (I'll have to talk to the manufacturer).

I've not discussed this with the manufacturer yet, I had only asked for the price on one, and the price of 10.

Will it have closed sides? I am not entirely up to date on how strong welded angles are.
Colour options? Smoked acrylic might be nice. Or maybe just one of them?

I am assuming they look like these. Because this looks good too.

Anyway, definetely interested. :)

it'll have full closed sides, similar(same shape, different plastic) to this -> http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/1628/roofe.jpg but made professionally. It will also have an opening at the back for the cable mount. Welded edges are as strong as the plastic is, its not a glue but joining the plastic together at the molecular level. You cant see any glue or jointing, it looks like its just been butted together.

Will the cover sit on the surface even with the keyboard or on the keyboard itself?

are yours female ? :P

No, it's because I am french, and we don't have a neutral thing in french. So sometimes I forget to use it in english :P.

But good point about the name, will find one for all my kbs now !

The cover will sit on the table not the keyboard. It wont touch the keyboard at all and no you wouldn't be able to carry it around in it, its just a simple [desktop] dust cover.

Hum, I'm not sure I'm actually interested anymore then. I'll have to think about it.

I would be interested if it sits on top of the keyboard and also fits a realforce tkl. But guess it's too difficult to make it that way so it fits most models.

It seems people want this to be more than a simple dust cover, I don't have a realforce, from the picture i see that it seems to be bigger than the filco/leopold/quickfire/ keyboards. This cover is meant to be a good fit for these.

I would be fine with either one of those, but most people around here seem want it to be a really small dust cover for the keys only.
Those will be harder to make usefull for everyone though. I looked at one for my Deck Legend and it is just too small because the room between the number-row and the Esc-row is larger.

A cover for the entire keyboard can be made a bit larger without affecting looks much. Let those who want a Realforce cover buy one of those.
