Wife and baby are sleeping, IBM Model M SSK in front of me, preparing everything for bolt modding this little sweety, and a fresh Austrian Schwechater Zwickl beer. Could it be better? :)

Supposedly there are some flavourless beers.

Well as flavorless as donkey piss can be.

I guess if all we had to drink here was Molson or Moosehead we'd call it donkey piss too. I'll take your word for it. :)

They are similar. I haven't had DFH in quite some time, but I would have to say it is more hoppy & boozy than the Founders.

Alpine, who makes the best IPA on the planet earth. (even better than the Russian River stuff that people line up for 7+ hours for)
http://www.monkscafe.com/
edit: just checked their tap list and they have an IPA and a PA from both Port Brewing (same brewer as Lost Abbey) (SD) and Russian River (Santa Rosa) which are unbelievably good.

Better than RR's 7 hour wait beer? Pliney is good stuff but it's ridiculously hard to get and over-hyped. I need to see if I can get some of that.

Russian River is great (I love Pliney the Elder & Younger) but I have to say Heady Topper is better... definitely lived up to the hype for me. Alpine is as good or better than RR depending on who you ask; I'm torn between Pliney and fresh Nelson from Alpine (or even Duet).
Show Image

Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze is excellent (and really hard to get) but I really think most of their other brews are overpriced/overhyped.

Cider that's 12% abv is for girls? mmmkay beast-man, how's that %5 beer treatin' ya :)

I just chug a few more like a "real" man, lol. ;)

Thanks for the offer jwaz. If my Cali connection ever flakes out I'll hit you up. I'm in TX...so, it's pretty hard to get. Speaking of TX most of the beer made here is not that great. The local breweries tend to produce a more "mass market" flavor profile.

Here is one of my favorite DIPAs Double Dog with a Founder's Double Trouble (DIPA too). The Double Trouble is new around here. I've heard great things about Founder's.
Founder's has a lot of good stuff... Founder's Breakfast Stout & KBS are both excellent. I'm in CA too so if you ever want to trade locals HMU! For beers with stupidly high ABV, I personally enjoy Prairie Bomb! (13%) Grey Monday (18.6%) Black Tuesday (18.9%) or the amazing Bourbon County Brand Stout (15%)

What about Jester King? That Atrial Rubicite has been quite the hype. Wish I could find it.

Been hearing about that brewery a lot... definitely want to check them out as I've really been enjoying sours recently.

Anyone on Untapped?

Not on Untapped. I'd be glad to trade for locals as well if I can get them. Just let me know. As far as Jester King those 2 are the only ones I've found so far...

DDG is incredibly over-priced, hard to find and just not that great for the effort involved. It's an okay American attempt at Gueuze.

I'm with you on the Heady though, I prefer it to Pliny but Alpine's Nelson (and other IPAs) beats 'em out. Six Points Resin is pretty solid too. Wish I had easier access to Six Points/ Alchemist. I really want to try the one-offs/ and other stuff Alchemist does.

I've had untappd for a few years but I don't update it too much these days, I'll hop back on but I'm pretty sure my name is jwaz or jesuswasazombie

Jwaz and MythicalW I don't keep up with all of the limited releases, but I did talk to one of my friends in Austin and she offered to take me out to Jester King the next time I head up there. Let me know when they release the next batch and I'll try to grab you one. I think they limit it to 2 per person though.

Can anyone suggest a good (possibly cheaper) substitute stout to Guinness? I'm located in Australia if that helps. Something not too rich, and preferably smooth

Awesome! I'll try to pay attention on facebook/twitter/etc but if you could get any of the sours, especially Atrial Rubicite I would be stoked.

If you're in California or Kentucky, pick yourself up a Stoner Woot Stout 2.0.  It's pricey and boozy, but really nice.  I just opened a bottle and it's one of the nicer stouts I've had in a while.

Yes! I've had my fair share of Stone brews, and it's so cool how they're collaborating with Wil Wheaton, Aisha Tyler and Drew Curtis . My gf had to buy one for her coworker because Whole Foods has a one per customer limit and he finished his too soon haha

All I want now is a limited series IPA from them, like Speakeasy's Vendetta. Best IPA I've had this year, second place going to Ballast Point's Sculpin. I take that back. All I really want is to try Pliny the Elder, but every place I go that should have it according to the website is dry : [

Someone almost bought out the TJ's by my house.  They only got two cases of the Woot Stout.

Have you tried anything from Valiant?  They have a killer IPA.  Stone's Unapologetic is also pretty solid.  My go to IPA is still Avery Maharajah though.

And, honestly, Pliny is good, but it's overrated.  It's just a good, solid, cheap example of what an IPA should be, it's nothing life altering.  If you really want to get into beer, ignore the hyped beer of the week and check out your local brewery offerings.  I try to stick local because there is some awesome $5-6 a bottle stuff that wrecks $10-20 a bottle stuff.  Mother Earth Brewing and Mammoth Brewing company are local to me (as is The Bruery, Valiant, and a a bunch of other awesome places) and I usually can find something killer for under $10.

I'm taking notes! I used to live in San Diego until this June, and Stone/Green Flash/Ballast Point/Alesmith/Coronado Brewing Co. spoiled me so hard. I probably missed a couple.. like Pizza Port! And I liked Mammoth when I tried it! I tried brews from there and a bunch of other CA/NV breweries at some beer festival in Reno. My family and I went there for a short vacation, and I swear I could have missed it if I didn't step outside of the casino haha

What I should do is find more local brews like Speakeasy. But yes, I agree that local breweries shouldn't be overlooked!

It's freaking hot here this weekend. And that's the best time to drink a kölsch. Even Muricans know that:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/29/dining/kolsch-a-summer-beer-worth-the-fuss-the-pour.html

This one here is a Mühlen Kölsch, a cologne style ale. It's rather special, because it's one of the few kölsch, that is made with a little wheat malt. Drink cold and from the right glass. It doesn't like to stand around for too long. Very malty and a little bit on the sweet side. Perfect beer for the summer.

Oh I love Ukrainian Bile beers. I was so pissed when the local places stopped importing it... but apparently I was the only person that bought it. I suppose the name probably unappealing to those that don't know it just means white. Maybe it would have been a good idea to have printed white instead of Bile for the American exports label? I even offered to buy entire cases of 500ml at a time and they still refused me.

Kölsch is great on hot days, but when it's disgusting hot a Radler really hits the spot for me.

Today I am trying a new one for around here. Hirter Pils from Austria. While it's nothing remarkable it is a good Pils done the way I like it. Good balance, not too light, and most importantly not bitter or excessively dry. If you like Pils you can certainly do worse than picking up some Hirter.

Pretty excited to pickup some Vietnamese Coffee Speedway Stout on Saturday and to try the Coconut SS variant - I'll try to remember to report back on them!

that presentation is nuts. I need to make friends that are interested in drinking microbrews at bars so I don't have to deal with bottles

I think the Vietnamese Coffee Speedway is the best beer they make, if not my favorite stout ever. So jealous!
I made sure to buy the max allocation cause I knew I would like it... maybe we can work out a trade! I love getting beer mail  :))

Nice thing about bottles is it's a little cheaper than drinking at bars and if you have other alcoholic beer loving friends you can setup some epic bottle shares... but these special releases usually are a total clusterfk pita! I'm glad AleSmith uses Brown Paper Tickets so ordering is easy at least (lookin at you Lost Abbey  >:D)

I feel the need to re-post this every few hundred replies.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

2L beaker, that's hard core.   :thumb:   Biggest I ever got to use was 1L.  But that was only ever for an ice bath or a quench anyway.  :P

I'm imagining a 2L mixed drink right now......

I just went to get a picture of the 2L and what do you know, it's gone.  I guess someone broke it.  It's been a few months since I used it.  Guess I will have to use the 3.5L or the 1L
