They're probably already here.
« on: Mon, 15 August 2022, 16:34:03 »
Why do we even use radio telescopes/transmissions.

If the aliens are out there, and they're capable of and "want" to observe or interact,  they're probably already here.  Signs of life are detectable even before humans, for millions of years.

Pre_warp aliens probably wouldn't bother coming, since they wouldn't be that much superior to hughmahns. and the Cost of a visit would be extravagant and less likely to Math out..

Faster than light aliens, well, they'd come down, look around and probably bounce.

In any case, wouldn't it be much easier to find the aliens ON EARTH (visiting), more easily than the ones IN SPACE.

Thoughts?  they iz here ? seen one ? sus ?

Are you an extraterrestrial? if so plz contact Tp4.

The only reason for them to come would be to study us or we had some rare mineral or location.
We have nothing else to really offer them.

The bad part is if we do have something they want.
For a long time the prevailing thought was that if they had that tech they probably posses the empathy to help other cultures because how else did they survive long enough to reach that point. However, that's taking a human approach and even we're (really) bad about it. We have no way of knowing whether or not we'd just be viewed as pests, no more than ants to be crushed. Stephen Hawking warned against trying to contact other civilizations for this very reason.

I do think they're out there, just probably not here, it's just one big disinformation campaign, which the Air Force has admitted to doing in the past.
On the other hand, maybe they are here and they're using fossil fuels to terraform the planet for their own use.

Animal agriculture is a significantly greater contributor to Climate Change, buhhh.... it's still pretty slow (for super smart aliens, I'd think).

There's possibly some _universe rule_, where you can't destroy a culture on purpose, but you can influence them and if they destroy themselves, you have salvage rights to their planet.   Conceivably this would satisfy your scenario of them being here meddling towards their own ends..

They're undoubtedly out there, it's a virtual mathematical impossibility that they aren't. Even the most conservative models for estimating the amount of planets with intelligent life on them have ended up in the tens of thousands.

That said, none appear to be anywhere near us. Although from an astronomical-biological perspective this makes pretty good sense.

Considering the universe is expanding (away from us) at an increasing rate, we're less likely to find aliens with every day that passes by, too.

I think tp4 is one of them...
He now started a thread on one of the most known and popular forums on internet to check if humans know about his existence.
I'm telling you.
:D

Anyway, I could assume that they are or were here already, being here they must have been superior to us, and by that, they would have a rule not to interfere with our lives, so would never show themselves or "help" with some technological inventions to let us evolve faster etc
Other theory would be that they are somewhere there, but not evolved enough to travel the distance, same as us.

If they are here then it is for assessing what kind of threat we are.

The fact that they have not revealed themselves is because they think we are going to destroy ourselves.

we may be projecting sci_fi,  whether they're "very" superior, or a "little" superior,  there's no galactic police that ensures they have a non_interference doctrine.  Life in the universe may be plentiful such that it hardly matters.

<or maybe> there is galactic police. There's no convincing evidence at this point it's one way or the other.

not evolved enough to travel the distance

Would they "evolve" to exist outside of matter and space and time? There are many "anomalies" in space and time that we know about, and certainly many more that we don't (and may never) recognize or understand, but the vastness of the universe is sure (or almost sure) to be an insurmountable obstacle to interstellar travel.

We have fun writing science fiction about flying a space ship into a "wormhole" and popping out unscathed countless light years away, but even if there are valid stable wormholes, could a tin can full of fragile living organisms survive the journey through it? I don't see it.

And those gigantic inter-generational flying arks surviving centuries-long trips where even a grain of sand could rip right through it at near-light speeds - and are they not likely to encounter even tiny chunks of matter that would eventually erode any amount of shielding?

From where I sit, I just don't foresee visitation - but I can see communication as a possibility.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

All the captain has to say is, Divert all power to forward shields,  those grains of sand wouldn't stand a chance.

In the ever expanding universe, I can imagine that we are at a point where no planetary civilization will ever meet another.  Perhaps there were thousands or millions of clashes between planets in the past that have slowed down to hundreds, then to tens, until we are at this point in time.  Now everything is too far apart and only drifting further away.

we thought there was empty space but then it turned out to be air.

Perhaps all that perceived distance has "stuff" in it. just stuff we don't understand yet, such as dark energies.

If you can travel that sort of distance, expansion is probably a minor issue.

Time is more a problem than anything else.
Our civilization, galactically speaking is relatively new, as is our planet. It's possible some other culture existed, made that trip and flew right past while we were still just a red hot ball of lava. While mathematically the numbers show life should be out there the numbers who are at the right stage of development brings those numbers way down. Our stage of development also gives them little reason to visit even if they could.

If they are here then it is for assessing what kind of threat we are.
If that's the case they've been here and left, we haven't even left our own orbit much less our galaxy (unless you count an incredibly simplistic probe, Voyager).

We're a long ways off from being a threat.

It depends on their experience with threats.

they might view threats like termites, you gotta spray'um early.   Dino + Rock didn't work,  they're going for rock 2 when coming about.
