holy ****
-
cool, finally another LZ ergo tkl. lul i think i'm going to need a bigger desk.
-
Kind of wishing the top edge were cut diagonally, parallel to the bottom edge, like in the first version.
Cool to see this come back though.
-
Would love to see this with a number pad, too.

is there any reasoning for changing the Ergo design to this? given that it's a much simpler design, will it at least be cheaper than the Ergo?
not a fan of the forehead at all, and sad to see the stepped section by the arrow keys and top indent on the Ergo go as well.
would love to see a proper render of this thing, maybe it's just the low quality straight top-down image and from a normal sitting viewing angle it looks good kinda like the BT HHKBs.
-
this looks amazing tho, will join!
-
finally! :-*
-
Absolutely massive. Consider adding daughterboard.
-
glad to see another board :thumb: looks great
-
gawt dayum

holup
i'll take your whole stock

Cool!! Who is making the PCB?

I echo lightning here. Looks to be a very cool board to pick up though.

Beautiful

Woah, another IC by LZ that people don't seem to care too much to ask for a proto for, yet that's almost standard practice. LZ actually delivering isn't much of an excuse either considering the physix shorted with regular use and the massive gaps around keycaps. Or are these features people really line up for?
-
thicker than my mam

been waiting for LZ's GB forever, I'm too excited!!!

Yes. I don't expect it to be perfect - no keyboard ever is.

Yes my friend no keyboard is perfect
But keep in mind the price. No keyboard should have those imperfections for the price point it was at. No keyboards should have that at all unless the creator explicitly state that it will have the issues.

Too many people watched the video with the youtuber who couldn't figure out which bumpons went where and took their cue from that imo.
There's been a ton of this saltiness on LZ GB's since then.
I've got a dozen LZ keyboards in my collection and the most "heinous" flaw (besides JigOn ;D) I've found is the PC plate didn't work out on the PhysiX because it's too flexible for the mounting system (there are work arounds if you insist on PC and the other plate materials don't have the issue at all). On the bright side we got to test a new mounting system and figure out what does and doesn't work in the field so the whole hobby got to learn something. It's the price of progress.

I think people are just upset to see one of the OGs just completely phone it in for the last like 3 years. Posting low effort ICs with little to no information, no renders, no nothing, and now especially with this and the Phase literally just rehashing old designs with seemingly pointless revisions that make the new board look uglier for no reason at all.
The hobby's progressed a ton and it feels like LZ is just leaning on the reputation he established back in like 2013, and people will validate him and pay money for his boards for no reason other than because it's got his name stamped on it and if it sucks they know they can just toss it on mechmarket in a few months and get back whatever they paid for their board.
If it was anyone else posting an IC like this it would get laughed at, tbh. Can only say that I'm glad Geon exists and is doing actual good work to make Kustoms appealing again.

Spitting straight facts

Glad to see stepped sides go on the new ergo. Not sure if I’ll love or hate the forehead in person.
Personally, not really concerned with the low effort IC. I’ll take a low effort IC from an established/proven community member over a novel from a new account. That’s the advantage of reputation 🤷♂️
-

Definitely feeling the same as Lightning here. Really excited to see another IC for an ergo in this shape but that massive forehead is kinda an eye sore of empty space imo.
-
me likey definitely get in
-
The bottom bezel looks much bigger than the Ergo. That coupled with the massive forehead makes this seem like a huge waste of desk space.
Of course I could be wrong and it might just be the render not portraying the end product accurately, but that also goes to show that this is a super lazy "IC" for a board that's probably already set in stone.
-
Number Pad on left for symmetry? :)

mounting is similar to physix?

Sure, why not. I’ll add it to my LZ collection, love the Physix.

Love the layout, love the chonk!
Will be trying for one for sure 👍

The LZ Ergo was the reason I got into mechanical keyboards. It, and boards of similar layout, has always been my endgame. I haven't been able to get an LZ Ergo, Lynn EM.7 or a FLX Virgo, but I will at some point. The closest I've come is the various Arisu type layouts, which are pretty close to what I've been wanting.
So I've been looking into an LZ Ergo type premium keyboard for several years now.
But with that layout, I'm not putting my name in the hat for this one. It's way too bulky compared to LZ Ergo. It just doesn't look nice. Or maybe it's just the Microsoft Paint version of the render that's throwing me off.
-
I for one like it
-
Layout looks interesting, really wanna see some more of the side profile and other angles though!
-
Damn! Missed out on Virgo, but would love to pick this up!

For what my opnion is worth - I agree with this. Otherwise it looks really great.
-
I will be very honest looks hideous as it is (IMO). Need to get rid of the forehead as others have mentioned. I agree with luv2curn, some ICs are praised more than others simply because of the designer and not the design itself. Saw the same thing with zekk.works RBB TKL which was themed after some Korean Idol/Song?. Other than that the board looked very similar to any other TKL with some engraving added to fit the theme.
-
I don't think this is the first time LZ has posted a semi-radical departure from normal designs and got flak for it but also gets flak for playing the hits.
Own the Physix, I think it's great. Have a couple other LZ boards and I like them. If I go line-by-line for most of the complaints I read here one word comes to mind for their arguments... LIMP
-
I'd definitely prefer the giant forehead removed but even if LZ ignores the forehead reduction requests I'll still likely try to snag one. This is a great layout and I'd be happy to have it as my work keyboard.
-
I love my Physix. I'd buy from LZ again—this looks badass.
-
Guys I think the forehead grows on u, give it a chance maybe lol.
Hoping for some cool sides and a through-weight, to differentiate from Physix.

Agreed, I’m starting to dig it
-
Maybe like a knob, a big one, right in the middle. Or like a slider. Or a swing set.
-
damn an ugly child, how can u guys live without a f13 on this looks so bad with out it
-
very cool :)
-
Interested.
-
Nice 5head
-
Not a fan of the styling choices on this one from the hingepoint between the F5-6 key that's got to be 40mm to the top edge.

Actually hate it more the more I look at it - At least the Ergo somewhat had the illusion of symmetry because it didn't have the forehead. On this the angle of the left and right side bezels are totally different and because of the forehead you can really tell; it'll look awful in my opinion.
-
LZ is a legend and he returns to us with a passion project, i'm definitely keeping my eye on this one

Big boi, I'm in

TKL with split spacebar!
Is it possible for the PCB to support a different split on the right spacebar?
Something like (1.25x + longer split)
The reason being with the current (long 2.75u + short 1u), you can only comfortably access one key under the right thumb (the 1u key under 'm' & ',' is too far away)
If there are two keys easily accessible, one can bind spacebar + ctrl on the right side, or if you use left thumb for spacebar, then any combo of shift, ctrl, enter, backspace.
Please kindly consider it, at least if there's a solder version of the PCB.
Thanks
(BTW, a vertical 1.5u or 2u in the center might be very handy for ergo keyboard, as a enter or backspace)

Will PCBs be available separately, and will the PCBs be compatible with the LZ Ergo? I was never able to get any one onboard/willing to reverse engineer the Ergo's PCB without some sort of massive payment.

I am absolutely in on this! I do have another question... Were there ever a release of the LZ Ergo cad files or any plans to release them?

My Pcb works, more or less, but would love one where I could use the backlight or indicator LEDs without fear of having to dig out an ISP loader to reflash over corrupted firmware...

I ported mine to QMK + Via and things seem somewhat better.
RGB is still problematic so I disabled it, but the rest seems ok.

This is a CHONK.
Really excited to see further updates/developments for this board.

Oh boy. I am going to need some of your wares. Fine looking board you got there.

I don't think the filled in space on top would look too odd once it was in front of you, although I'd like a groove or pocket for pens or other desk junk up there. I do hope this gets made, just to have more of these types of boards in the wild, even though it's somewhat simplified from the first generation.
-
i'd been trying to find a flx virgo for a while now, this should be similar tho i dont like the empty space on the top

This update looks wonderful. The board has gone from "maybe" to "please yes please god yes please"
I've wanted an Lz ergo for the longest time but have never had the opportunity. The recent ergo tkls have been great, but none have been designed by LZ.

Looks like a cross between burger and tadpole?
Either way, it’s an isolated top mount

I'm glad you made a very wise decision.
Actually, I think it would be good to remake the first LZ ERGO as it is.
I hope you supply enough quantities so that everyone who wants it can get it. :D :D :D :
