Wait a minute
So youre saying if I get this PCB
The case/plate files are available for printing
I can essentially make my own Alice?
What if I told you I had already done it...

Would you be willing to run a group buy?

That has been my plan, I just finished putting together the first one today and have it all flashed in QMK, just was gonna clean up the code a bit then get it added.
Seems I got beat to the punch on the IC side of things!
PC plates will probably happen with this GB instead of my own because I am lazy and onefiftynine offered to do it.

I will get quotes based on your last update from the thread:
40 polycarbonate
15 carbon fiber
How thick is the polycarbonate plate going to be?
How thick is the polycarbonate plate going to be?
1.5mm i imagine
Is this still going to be limited to 20 orders only?
I am so in for this.
Could you make the PCB Alps compatible? This is a possibility that I am discussing with Maarten. It would not affect the cost of the pcb. However, I will not be providing plates to support alps.
...Or could you make an Alps PCB?
Yes please I still want a poly plate. And please make it clear not frosted!

Sorry, getting PC clear is a pain in the ass and there's a reason nobody is doing. It's a bit tricky but you can give it a shot by polishing it ;)

Puddsy just pointed me to a shop that can do clear PC. I'll set up a poll to see what people are in favor of. One off pc plates are usually pricey so check back if you don't find a spot that can't do it for a reasonable price.Yes please I still want a poly plate. And please make it clear not frosted!

Estimates on lead time for when the plate would be in my hands?
Might hold off on building mine for a while if this can have a relatively quick turn around

+1 for ALPS. I would love to use the dual compatible hole setup like bakingpy does for his boards on keeb.io
I've developed an alps and an alps / mx hybrid plate.
Does anyone have an acrylic cutter / 3d printer?
If so, verifying the hybrid plate is compatible with mx switches, the pcb, and stabilizers would be perfect.
We can either use it, or the exclusive alps plate.

why would anyone use platemount stabs on a board like an alice, no need to support that either
Costar is the only hybrid stab (both mx and alps) I know... Otherwise only mx stabs (pcb clip, pcb screw)...?

Moreso than superior, it's that most Alps users will use keycaps and stabilizers directly from the boards that they come from. e.g. SGI Granite, AEK, or Dell AT101, etc. And the problem with plate-mount Alps stabilizers is solvable. It may be slightly more tedious but it's not difficult.
I still think that dedicated plates, without hybridization on the plate(s), are the way to go if Alps support will be present.

In either case, I need a proto to verify things are OK. Or just someone to double check things, so I'm not the only one with my head in my ass...
(I made the plate by taking the yuksti plate, taking an alps-mx cutout plus alps cutout grouped, aligned that with the original mx cutout, then removed both the mx and alps-mx. Not sure on tolerance though...)
Here's a link (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=82916.0) to some reference plates you could use -- they of course aren't for Alice specifically, but the cutouts have been tested.

Thanks.
I've been using the dxf's from swillkb, and some copy pasting in Illustrator... Which seems to be OK enough.
If no one wants to help, I can just laser some acrylic on ponoko for $30 and see myself, but that will take a week or two for turnaround...

Welp, Alps Stabs won't offer a choice for either [split backspace / 2u backspace] or [split R shift / 2.75u R shift].
I personally like both keys split, because I put backspace on the R Thumb key...

Neither the first nor second on that picture seem feasible, since the clip wouldn't be able to, well, clip onto the plate.

Correct. Sorry I didn't add details.
First picture is with [two 1u] and [one 2u] with alps stabs.
Second picture is [one 1.75u + 1u] and a [2.75u] with alps stabs.
Third picture is just a [2.75u] with alps stabs.
Costar stabs fix this, since they go all the way to the top of the slot.

If Costar stabs are reliable, and readily available, it would be a good option. As long as they can be compatible with original Alps keycaps from old boards.
Firstly.. i'm going to buy this combo no matter what.
Secondly.. If it was my preference, i would rather pay extra for an ALPS specific plate that had alps (not costar or cherry) stabs clip holes.

I concur with this, once again. I'd rather not have to settle for something that requires a modification after I receive it in the mail, no matter how simple.
I'd settle on a specific, dedicated layout than accommodate for a "universal" type. The likelihood of desoldering and changing the layout, should I have a "universal" plate, would be pretty small.

Or I'll just provide some files and other folks can sort it out themselves....
Yea, thinking more, I'm gonna do this:
Prototype mx / alps in acrylic.
Then I'm gonna order five alps polycarb plates with split backspace, split r shift, and alps stablizers.
If anyone wants one hit me up (it doesn't make sense to order one plate for $100+, when I can get five for significantly cheaper).
I can post files for any other folks (full backspace, full r shift), mx stabs, costar stabs, whatev. But sweet Jesus, wrangling Alps preferences is like herding cats, since everything is incompatible with everything else!

Just wanted to say to not get split backspace and split right shift alps plates cause the only people who will have the sets needed for that are the real alps hoarders or people using mx stab alps sets which are few and far between. Getting standard backspace and shift will make them easier to offload after you confirm your fitments.
I would love split backspace and split right shift alps compatibility :)

As it is just one PCB, I think it was implied that it was going to have split right shift and backspace for alps too.
I would absolutely be down to get a PCB, hopefully it's not limited to 20 units. And if it doesn't affect cost, I think Black would be a good color for the PCB.
Is this still going to be limited to 20 orders only?
I am so in for this.
For this run, we would like to limit orders to 1 pcb per person. Maximum total units to about 30-40 to keep qc tight. No limit to plates though.
Any chance you can make one for the Jane v1?
Units: 35 (maximum)
Units: 35 (maximum)
What is the real reason for it? Is it only for your QC after PCBs arrival?
I mean, PCB do not looks complicated to manufacture at all - no underglow, no indicators, no in-switch leds etc. Not a serious task for big manufacturers, must be no problems. And if some PCBs will be defective, they are always can accept it and replace for new ones.
Demand for these PCBs is way bigger than 35 maximum.
Units: 35 (maximum)
What is the real reason for it? Is it only for your QC after PCBs arrival?

hand assembly and QC
getting presoldered PCBs in quantities under 50 or 100 is generally prohibitively expensive
considering that there are only 60 or so alices in existence, it's not inefficient to limit to a certain number to keep costs down
i ordered a plate, so want to keep an eye on this too - anyway we could get shipping to line up if we already have plate ordered or is the timeline way different?
Any chance you can make one for the Jane v1?

Just dropping in to let you guys know that we are reviewing all the interest & feedback and working out some details.
Stay tuned and I will post a major update of the project SOON™
What style of stabs do the PCB support?PCB supports both.
Is it screw-in or snap-in style?
In.Initial post contains a link to the documentation to the acrylic case that is a work in progress.
Is the plate going to be 3mm? 5mm? 1.5mm with a support plate?
I know it's probably too much to ask....but, with the acyrlic case design/cad files is there any chance the design can be tweaked to resemble the outer shape of the OG Alice? It's looking great rn, but i reckon it would be even better if it wasn't rectangular, but close to the dynamic shape of the original...just a thought and a personal preference, i've no idea what people on here would actually prefer. This group buy is meant to obtain parts based on the Yuktsi's original files: replacement pcb, plates, and the acrylic case. We are not trying to replicate or clone the alu version of Alice by TGR.
Could we get a usb c pcb for the new case?No we can not, because it would have to fit in its original case as well.
oh man, this is amazing. was sourcing my own case but now i don't have to!
So do we need a plate for the acrylic case?
Are acrylic cases limited quantity?

Nice!
PCB form where? Can I get on a mailing list somehow?
Nice! The PCB for this is a custom design by me, based on the files from the designer of the original. Follow this IC to stay up to date.

I did a similar thing, but I combined the top and bottom pieces to make it two part construction. And I heavily reshaped the outside edges. The PCB is the only missing part for me.Are acrylic cases limited quantity?

If you miss the group buy you can make on yourself and order one on Sculpteo, like I'm doing at the moment. It will be more expensive, tho. https://github.com/Zambumon/Lubrigante
I'm in for a new keeb.
Also, is this related in any way to that Cheshire keyboard on r/mk?
Reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/ai41if/cheshire/
Do we have an ETA on the PCB and Case?
Also I'm assuming that news for both group buys will be posted here?

Yuktsi posted open source version of the acrylic case files in the Alice GB thread. Zambumon modifies them keeping it 4 parts, each 5mm thick. I modified them into a two part construction with integrated plate on the top half. Mine can’t be laser cut like Yuktsi’s or even CNC’d if you use acrylic. I’ve been spending months and a lot of money finding a manufacturer that can satisfactorily even make a one off for me, so Yuktsi’s files or Zambumon are the way to go for now.Thank you for the detailed explanation! Also, sorry, I totally botched your username in my post. Hmmm I was never a fan of the acrylic stack style cases, guess I'll have to see how much they'll be for this GB before i determine if I'll join. One last question, did you mean plate mount stabs? Or none screw in pcb stabs?
Keep in mind, from what I saw on MrKeeb’s stream with the 5mm acrylic plate layer, you can’t use screw in stabilizers. You need PCB mount, flush stabs. Or if you go into CAD and extrude that layer, you can add cutouts like the Zephyr plate has.

How about some 1.5mm metal layer options?
Low profile: [1] 1.5mm metal switch plate, [2] 3.5mm acrylic spacer, [3] PCB, [4] 5mm acrylic spacer, [5] 1.5mm metal bottom or 5mm acrylic bottom.
High profile: Add
- acrylic keycap surround layer.
Or maybe I am making this too complicated.

Wait until I test the design, I've a 6x 3mm layer version, which should be easier to laser cut.
Oh man, I'm definitely interested. Once I saw there were cases too, I went ahead and picked up a plate. SO IN.
Can I cancel my order of a PC plate from your other buy in light of this case being dropped?
rip, hopefully a new ic will pop up for the acrylic board for news to follow.

The 3D files are readily available. I have confidence that you guys can submit them and get it cut for you.

Please do not try the files until this issue is closed (https://github.com/Zambumon/Lubrigante/issues/1). Thanks.
Is it too late to get in on this gb?
So is this just pcbs now, since the acrylic case has been dropped? Or am I understanding this wrong? The GB is now PCB only. However, Zambumon is working to open source and prototype an acrylic case. You would then be able to use these files to create your own case through a local or online laser cutting shop.

Thank you for the clarification. Did the original include a plate as well, or was it just PCB mounted?
