« on: Thu, 25 January 2018, 21:51:19 »

IC: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=93256.0  There were ups and downs but we are finally here.

The prototype looks even better than I expected.

Some details:

  • 8 colors are available.
  • Top case and bottom case can be in different colors
  • Around 8 degrees slope
  • Supported layouts on PCB: split BS, split right shift, split left shift, ISO and ANSI enter
  • Supported layouts on top case: 87 keys TKL, WKL with regular blockers (normally 84 keys) , small blockers (normally 86 keys)

Price:

  • All aluminum kit: $280
  • Upgrade to brass front accessory: +$15
  • Upgrade to brass plate: +$25
  • Upgrade to brass weight: +40

Other costs:

  • Shipping to asian countries $40, otherwise $50
  • 4.4% PayPal fee

Timeline:

  • GB ends on Feb. 10th (No MOQ, No limits)
  • Expected shipping date: before mid April

Place your order HERE

Important update:

Just got a quote for the diffuser which turns out to be very cheap.

So the decision is diffusers will be included for everyone who joins for free.

Check the render with diffuser: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=93723.msg2554933#msg2554933

Feb 10: Order form has been closed. Manufacturing will be started after CNY. I'll also update you some photos for diffusers and keyboard with keycaps later.

Damn the prototype looks so nice, have to pick the colors first!

ิbtw no front accessory version would be nice but it's impossible atm I guess, have to pick the same color as top case then.

My guess is "super silver," since this doesn't look like MAO, but I've been wrong before.

Yeah, I’m assuming he meant Silver, not White due to the anode examples on the form.

This looks nice. I liked the first version, but...

Anyway, did you build it yet to insure there are no clearence issues on the inside?

-What kind of PCB will it come with? (Included in base price, correct?)
-Can you show how thick the weight is?
-How tall is it from the front?

Sorry for all the questions, I was just curious! :)

Edit: The more I look at the sample pictures, the more I want it. It’s really nice.

Looks good, though I would prefer more of a silver colored screw in the weight. The black just stands out so much and almost looks too big for where it is, appears to stick further out than the plate, meaning the board would rest on the screws first?

I get using bumpons to elevate it, or protect the bottom, but I would imagine the board should be able to lay flat without needing an extra purchase.

I haven't got the time to assemble it but all the parts fits perfectly as far as I can see.

PCB was provided by another team. It can be programmed with bootmapper client.

Weight is about 6mm thick.

2cm tall.

The screws in the photos were not fastened. The bottom is flat.

And Puddsy is right we will provide bumpons.

I can try to source screws in other colors if it bothers more people.

^ An rgb pulse from left to right would look stellar.

Also, plate options - is polycarb possible? Only alu and brass plates is quite a dealbreaker when it’s all about that typing experience.

I love that it has the option for 6.25u 86key! This alone makes it so tempting to join. Oh well, I'll spend my time trying to imagine a color combination that I'd like to see in this if I do join. I also think an acrylic diffuser of some sorts would be nice to have as an option.

"So recently I've ordered a custom of every size I use... except TKL... I wonder when that Mars board will go to GB?"
^Me earlier this morning.

That silver ano looks so clean!

Are you going to be getting more color samples on actual board parts?

I'm trying to imagine what a purple front accessory would look with a black plate and a silver case ;)

You have the option to buy an extra brass front accessory, but would it be possible to, say, buy an extra aluminum one in a different color?
I really would love to have a purple, and a black or red.
Can they be swapped with the PCB in place?

Can you make sample and post it? Already have a color combo in mind. PCB has underglow leds on it right?

The current case design doesn't support middle diffusers because the seam between two parts are is not all flat.
I'm modifying the design to make it support mid diffusers. However I'm not able to make samples because of the Chinese New Year.

What's for sure is the final case will support mid diffusers and I'll at least provide the files to make them.
It's also possible I'll provide the diffusers to those who joined GB.

Thanks for the pictures!
I don't know if it could be an issue but wouldn't it be safer to make those connection parts a bit wider? Like this for example: https://i.imgur.com/3JfcD5T.jpg

What do you mean by connection parts?
