I'm having trouble differentiating between the Concave and Convex weights from the pictures - would you be able to show a comparison picture? Appreciated

This is Convex

And this is Concave

The Convex weights are flat with the back of the case, whereas Concave weights indent into the case.

Hi, just before i get in, I have a question. I think i saw on reddit that the feet are removable, or something like that, can you detail me a bit more on that? How the feet can be removed, how does the feet look detached to the case, etc. Thank you very much. I''ll get in this GB anyway, but wanted to get some more info  :D

We switched to 3M adhesive feet so they'll just stick onto the case.

This is how you apply them:

I have sent an email inquiring about production. If I don't see anything in one weeks time I will be filing a report with PayPal for a refund.

Update: I received a reply from u/lamg4 with pictures, a pretty detailed time line, and a link to a video of the finishing of the weights. I'm hoping we will see these things posted here soon. I thought it would be beneficial for everyone to have an update on my inquiry in case anyone else was having issues or was concerned with the seeming lack of updates. I'm glad this lovely project is coming along!

Any updates?

P.S. Still looking to purchase a spot.

GB members got an email. Still a couple months away.

"Hi everyone, this is the 3rd update of the Imperial Hue GB.

During the last few months, there has been quite a few challenges that push back the production, so let me first say sorry about the delay.
Here's the new timeline I received from Break Wood yesterday:

+ In the next 25 days, Break Wood will focus on completing the sides of the case with all the details. Along with that, they will have the brass weight and extra weight gold plated.

+ Next 10 days will be for polishing and overlaying the cases with wood preservative paint.

+ 10 more days to make packaging foam and card boxes prepared for shipment.

I'll work closely with them to make sure everything is delivered.

If you have any question, feel free to ask by replying to this email or contacting Break Wood directly on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/breakwoodvietnam/

Regards,
u/lamg4."

In case anyone missed it, here's the email update from November 23:

Quote
Hi everyone, hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.

I just received a new update from Break Wood yesterday. Here's the details:

+ All the  base will be done tomorrow or the day after.

+ Gold plating the brass is the hard part. They have sent requests to 4-5 factories in the South Vietnam, same in the North, to get the samples. As of far, Break Wood haven't received good samples to begin mass production. Each time they sent a request, it takes half a month to get a sample back. That's why there's delays.

+ They are still working on getting the weights gold plated. I didn't receive the estimated time, but Break Wood said they would get it done as fast as possible.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I know you are worried about the GB, but I'm sure Break Wood is hard at work to get it done. Financial wise, they have spent more than double the total they received from the GB. I hope you understand.

Regards,
u/lamg4.

Hi there :)

Just saw the last update on e-mail. Not wanting to flame or anything, but when I read updates through email I feel a bit too alone with my feelings and don't know how people in general are reacting to things. This is also my first GB out of a bigger company like MD, Kbdfans, etc.

So... How are you guys? What are your thoughts?

For those wondering I attach a screenshot of the latest position.

My thoughts on it are that it’s disappointing but they are clearly in a tough spot and want to do the best they can to rectify. I’m pretty certain this isn’t a money grabbing exercise, it’s just poor planning. I’ll be paying the extra $40 personally as I think it’s worth it - especially after the wait so far.

Is it ideal? No, certainly not. My big hope is that  the Gb runners learn from this and add risk costs into their plans going forwards. At the end of the day I kinda forgot shipping was included originally anyhow as lots of GBs run this separately.

I’m just glad I’ll be getting the case and that the guys haven’t just ghosted the community. They’ve invested their own money to finish the job and as long as we see results I’m comfortable with it (if not entirely happy about this). I’m all for putting things right rather than being negative on this kind of stuff.

Edit - I do think this amount should be invoices rather than the direct transfer they are asking for and I’ll be emailing them as such.

I’ve requested for Break Wood to send an invoice in which they did.

For those who paid the invoice, Break Wood would ship the parcel within 48 hours (or so they said in the email reply after I paid)

I’d like to see this case come to fruition, and seems like they have finally gotten all the items on hand.

Haha me too...I went all out the options. Anyone have tips on keeping this wood in tip top shape over the years?

edit: What are those extra bits pictured in the packaging? Do we get brass feet now?? I just noticed them.
Pictures of the weight (even though its just a block) would be nice too.

Hello friends.
Break wood first apologized to you about order delays and not regularly update the information about GB for you.
Since I do not know English (I can only use google translate) and use the computer is very poor, so sending mail to you is very difficult. All previous updates are made by Mr. Liam helped me, however recently he was busy learning so I tried to create account on the forum to be able to update information with people. Please sympathize for my restraint.
As I have mailed to you, the issue of shipping has caused us a lot of deadlock, but with the sharing from you we could have been easier in the shipping process. I am very surprised that people not only sympathize but also encourage us a lot. We are very thankful for that.
The shipment will be carried out within 3-5 days (paypal to me to lose 3-5 days)
However, the amount of goods to be sent is quite large, so we will have to split into two times to avoid customs and tax issues.
Thank you very much. I send a video to you to understand the situation GB

I got mine in, and I discussed it with the designer, I'm not 100% impressed either.

Pros:

  • Dope ass design;
  • Heavy AF, which is a plus for me, at first I planed on traveling with it, not anymore of course, but I appreciate the weight;
  • Sounds really better than my previous wood case. It's way more thick than my previous case which probably explains the difference, but the sound is soooo nice (put in lubbed (3204) retooled blacks and a MX zilent on the spacebar).

Cons:
  • The quality does not reflect the price of the board (see below);
  • Related to the first point, the design of the weight has, IMO, not been well thought out (again, see below);
  • I have a mark on the side of the board which breakwood says was done during the shipping process, but the board was well packaged and that portion of the packaging is 100% intact;
  • The screw holes are not properly aligned - I am thus only using 3 screws, not well placed, so there is a gap on the left side of the board which is not present on the right side (see pictures below - it's not that big a deal, and the gap is not fully visible, but a comment on my reddit post made me look twice and notice the difference, I'll post some more pictures tonight).

As for the price not reflecting the quality; I first want to say that I joined through the Vietnamese GB, things were a little more tricky to understand back at the time (I did not know if there would really be an international GB) so, part of this is presumably my fault. I got a convex weight (a mistake IMHO), no plate to hold it in place, basic package. My most important grip with it is that there was no mark or indication to show where the feet had to go on the back of the case (I understand they don't come pre-installed) but because of that I ended-up placing them too "high" (understand too close to the top edge of the board). I screwed them in but one of the screws broke, meaning I can't take the feet off (and even if I could, that would leave a mark).

That last bit is probably my fault for tightening the screw too much, but the problem is that the absence of marking and me placing the feet too "high" is that the weight simply pops out when (the weight protrude too much and typing on the board puts too much pressure, resulting on the weight to come out of its slot). This has been solved by adding a little bumper under the brass leg to make the back higher. Again, I know it's my fault for screwing the legs in (the do give you some 3M thingies so you can paste the legs to the board - I strongly advice you use them!).

Honestly, the case is nice, really nice, and I really like it, but I'm not convinced the quality reflects the price and the multiple delays.

We are very grateful for your objective evaluation. This is our first product on it that has many shortcomings. hope for new updates. The quality will be enhanced. As for the copper leg, quite a lot of people do not want to fix it so we provided 3M panels for gluing, quite tight. If there is something that makes you unhappy. Please write to my mail: "dodung.breakwood@gmail.com" or inbox to our page: "https://www.facebook.com/breakwoodvietnam/" thank you

Here is the requested sound test guys:

Please excuse the hand positioning and the low quality, that was filmed with my DSLR but I have no external mic - SPOILER ALERT: it sounds nice!

Here is the back of the case (you can see my temporary solution to make the case a little higher):

still waiting for my board, I paid right after they asked for the extra shipping cost, literally within seconds and I was given three different shipping estimates, each of which slipped and slipped, then I found out from the forums that apparently an entire second batch got delayed a month due to customs. totally understand it's the first group buy and honesty, communication has been shaky just hoping to get my hands on this soon.

Just got my board today. Need to clean with damp cloth and old toothbrush around the carving area.
I shall not be easily pleased when comes to asthetic, but this casing looks pretty alright to me. Price is not cheap and delivery has been delayed multiple time but that is ok. Overall, I will give a 8.5/10 for the final product.

Now a bit regret for not getting the extra brass weight...

My "review" might have sound a little too harsh when I think about it as I would personally give this a good 8. I did need to carve the wood a little more to flatten a little bit more the weight, and despite my gripes with the case, I'd buy it again (if I could get use to a 60%, but that's another story).

If by extra brass weight you mean the "brass sheet" then yeah, I feel you, wish I had bought one as well.

Not buying the brass sheet during gb is due to the total price is a bit out of my budget.

I can feel you too when your screwing is slightly off on the beautifully textured back.

Hi, forgot to ask before. Why do you think the convex weight was a mistake? Want do you meant with the "no plate to hold it in place"?

I think he attached the stand too close to the outside edge of the case. We really missed it when we did not recommend the distance of the base, the bad thing was that Jon didn't try before he fixed the screw.

Ah, got it. Good to know this, because I would most likely do mistakes as well when putting the feet on. For some reason, by looking at the images when the GB was running I thought the convex weight, even though it is convex, wouldn't stood out of the case, therefore would'nt touch the table without feet. Anyway, looking forward to having this on my hands :D

Received my board yesterday. Without having assembled it yet, I am unimpressed.

The good:
- The carving is intricate and I think it looks quite good. I plan to brush off any excess sawdust and apply some mineral oil.

The not so good:
- The external packaging was sufficient, but the internal packaging was severely lacking. The weight was loose inside the case and able to move freely. Three of the PCB standoffs were broken off, presumably from being repeatedly struck by the brass weight as it shifted around during transit. I should be able to superglue them back in place, but it was disheartening to see that upon opening the box.
- I believe I should have ordered the additional brass weight. It was listed as optional, but it appears to be required to hold the circular weight in place. As is, the weight simply sits in the cutout and is held in place by friction. When I flip the case upside down to admire the weight, it gets dislodged rather easily. Looking at the photo album with hindsight, I believe I could have inferred this from the photos. Given that there are four additional screw holes (not shown in photos of the prototype) around the cutout for the weight, I may be able to jury rig a system to secure the weight to the case. Consequently, I think the design of the product is rather lacking in this regard.

Overall, with some work, I believe I will be able to complete a build that I am happy with. I think this is a great product, but the execution was a bit lacking.

it's odd they don't come here and update people, how many people are still missing boards? I know they started more group buys for artisans in parallel. I think they have good intentions but this group buy was suppose to ship in September, and they added extra shipping cost saying if you pay it it will ship.

I paid my $34 right away and I was told it would say right away, then the following series of events happened
1. 1 week later I ask them if they shipped they said it will ship in 3 days
2. 5 days later I follow up they say it will ship by end of next week
3. Start seeing boards so I followup no response
4. see on the GB thread some people said the shipment is in two batch I follow up again
5. get confirmation it is in two batches told to wait 2 weeks
6. someone on forum says they say it will take till next month which is much longer than two weeks
7. recently followed up got told 3 days
8. finally followed up and was told it might not have been sent out before new years rush and might be after new years now

hello, everyone is calm, we are still here. The shipping is our fault, because nick "dodung.breakwood" is locked (I don't know how to open the commen), so I have to set up a new nick to answer you
We sent goods to 15 friends this morning, the last day of the year, however, because our culture these days is drinking and meeting relatives, the transportation is a bit delayed. The carriers said "still receiving orders but will be stocking, going to New Year's Day to ship the goods" on the shipping code, we will send mail to you 15 tomorrow morning.

If you have any questions, please contact us via mail "dodung.breakwood@gmail.com" or page https://www.facebook.com/breakwoodvietnam

Hi. This GB is divided into 3 times instead of 2 times as expected, those who receive the first batch of products have a positive feedback on the product. We are happy about that, but there are still some minor errors. So we will revise the design (specifically the copper weight), some final recipients will receive new updates. ours

Hi. We updated the new design, this is part of the polishing process, it will take about 10 days of continuous shooting without stopping to remove all small scratches. Then will polish with fabric and gold plating. in this design. We added 6 screws to make sure the brass weights won't fall

I received mine and am wanting to make a small review of it here, but just to mention, regarding the below:

The not so good:
- I believe I should have ordered the additional brass weight. It was listed as optional, but it appears to be required to hold the circular weight in place. As is, the weight simply sits in the cutout and is held in place by friction. When I flip the case upside down to admire the weight, it gets dislodged rather easily.

Overall, with some work, I believe I will be able to complete a build that I am happy with. I think this is a great product, but the execution was a bit lacking.

I ordered the extra weight and unfortunately, the extra weight and the usual weight are not an exact fit, there is quite some space between these two, which makes the main weight still very easily dislocate from its place. The board gets really hefty with the extra weight, which is really nice. The extra weight does not have the best of finishes but since it will not be seen I don't mind it. The good part of having the extra weight regarding the looseness fo the main weight is that I managed to fit some rolled up tape to push the main weight. It is a very cheap solution but it served its purpose, which is nice.

They are attached via double-sided adhesive. Location is up to you. If you have a convex weight, however, be sure to place the feet such that the resulting angle the keyboard sits at provides enough clearance for the weight.

Was excited to have mine built then had to abort midway:
- The screws are rather weak, I ended up with 2 stripped screws.
- Some of the PCB standoffs do not fit any screws.
- Is this case supposed to have no screw holes for the feet and users have to drill themselves?

Also has anyone builts theirs with DZ60 PCB? My DZ60s screw holes are not aligned with the standoffs.

Bottom line, better quality control would have been very appreciated!

The feet are attached via double-sided adhesive.
