GH search is pretty bad and would need a big overhaul to even be useful imo.
I Google "site:geekhack.org" with past month, year, or custom time instead :)

great suggestions. the search revision is going to be pretty major though when we get to it. specifically, we're going to switch to sphinx as the back-end and write a better custom front-end for it. this is pretty low on the prio list right now though for various reasons (probably like may?); unfortunately good search is quite annoying to implement, and there are lots of little things i'd like to get off our plates before we dive into the rabbit hole.

Agreed - I use google to search Geekhack a lot.  I do this with other forums too though so it is not truly a ding on Geekhack.

Suggestions:

It would be nice to specify searching thread titles separate of the bodies of messages.  Sometimes you can remember a word from thread title, but if it is a common word in threads the search is not useful.

The two word limit on searches does not seem like a big deal until you try to search for group buys that have iterative names, like "RA" vs. "RA 2".  It might be better to have more unique names for Group Buys instead of tweaking the search though.  (Maybe a wiki of Group Buys?)
