[IC] Gateron Switches - Worldwide - [GB] link inside MOQ Reached
« on: Fri, 03 February 2017, 16:54:00 »
Hi everyone!

I'm not sure how many UK/EU people we have on here but I thought I'd post this here just for those who don't use reddit.

I've been looking to get Gateron Switches recently and the cheapest I could find within the UK were from Caps Unlocked which were 0.27p per switch during a group buy. I've managed to find a wholesaler who can do them for £0.19 per switch for orders of 1000+ switches. I'm just checking with the seller for a MOQ and expected shipping cost but even if the shipping cost works out to 8p per switch which I don't think it will, then it still matches the price by Caps Unlocked which isn't available at the moment any way.

The switches the seller offers are:
  • Gateron Yellow
  • Gateron Black
  • Gateron Blue
  • Gateron Brown
  • Gateron White
  • Gateron Green
  • Gateron Red

These are all transparent clear switch covers and plate and pcb compatible.

The seller is fine with mixing switches, and I'm happy to do the work splitting the orders.

I'd be looking to put in an order for a couple of hundred switches myself, so if only 10 people join in for a 60% the group buy is likely to go ahead.
Happy to answer any questions you may have.
If the group buy goes ahead it would be the usual process of fill out an order form with how many you need and after the buy closes I'll invoice each of the participants via paypal. Or i can set up an online shop, and take orders there since the MOQ is likely to be met.
Please fill out the interest check form. https://goo.gl/forms/iu24ixv07a651rxP2

I'll update this when I get a confirmed quote for the shipping.

This Group Buy would be open to UK and EU residents. If there's enough people wanting it I'll open it up to US.

All prices are in GBP.

EDIT: Added interest check form url.

Update 01:00GMT: MOQ is 1600pcs current interest checks total just over 800. Shipping price will bring switches to about £0.20.

Update 09:30GMT: The interest checks are just shy of 2500 switches. So I have no doubt that the GB will happen, which is great news. I'm going to let the interest check go on for today and I'll start ironing out the details of how the group buy will be run.

That would be awesome. I wouldn't be surprised if Zeal has some kind of exclusivity deal on that though.

I believe Zeal owns the molds for the fully trans housings.

That's good to know. Just got a reply from the seller that they do have rgb gaterons with white bottoms and a larger hole to allow smd LEDs to shine through.and they are the same price. I'll ask if I'm able to combine the rgb and normal casings into a single order since we'd already be mixing switch types, I don't see what the problem would be jordering different case types.

guaranteed not - the molds are just gateron molds hence it says gateron on the switch. he might have talked them into producing transparent bottoms only for him but i highly doubt they would honor that.

That sounds possible but my seller doesn't have transparent bottom switches. Maybe if this Group Buy goes well enough I'll go through the steps of contacting Gateron direct and seeing whether its possible to get their normal line in a full transparent housing.

Pretty confident I am right. Who else has fully trans switches apart from Zeal? I'm fairly certain he has even mentioned this in the early zealio threads, and the reason for the higher pricing. Also if you recall, MD was going to run a full trans gateron GB last year, but it was shut down after a few days.

Yes the MOQ was over doubled in interest checks so it seemed pointless to not start the GB as there aren't any further price break points.

New to GBs so going to ask the dumb questions  :p
But I'm guessing the £0.24 does not include shipping to our doors and this will be invoiced at a later stage?

I concur, I don't know about the mold being the same or different (looks the same to me but I haven't looked carefully at all) but I reckon he must have some sort of deal on a fully trans case. He definitely has some sort of exclusivity agreement on the slider as he said the tactile clears that were sent to winkeyless (basically zealios but a different colour) should not have been and were never sent again. There was a thread a while ago where he mentioned it. I don't know for sure about the fully trans housing but I would expect so, can always ask him/gateron in the future if this buy goes well =].

Anyway I'm down for this, nice to have someone in the UK and a really good price too. I will be ordering 200 or so shortly =]

I'll copy in what I've written on a reddit.

"Once the group buy ends on Friday I will place the groups order, after that it could be 1-3 weeks before I receive the items. This is due to Chinese New Year just coming to an end and Chinese shipping companies will be backlogged right now. I'd expect to receive the order by the 3rd March. I'll then split the orders up and email the participants a shipping invoice and I'll start posting orders as and when the shipping is paid. I hope to have all orders out by 10th March at the latest. I will be available throughout the whole process for enquiries and I'll be doing my best to keep everyone updated."

This is an image sent to me by my supplier, it shows the housing well enough I think. note the small recess underneath the LED slot to allow a SMD LED to be on the switch side of the motherboard. I'm interested to get my hands on some because I want to see how well they actually allow light through on a PCB.

I'm going to be ordering about 1000 switches myself, I'm going to try to develop a small PCB that will allow all 14 switches to be on showing the use of both SMD LEDs and the traditional 2 pin LEDs as well as the 4 PIN RGB LEDs, all on one board so not only a switch tester but an LED tester too.

Very interesting, so the black bottom switches are the 'regular' switches and the white bottom switches are SMD compatible switches, is this correct?

Another thing to note is that for my group buy the white bottom are 3 pin (Plate mount only) and the black bottom ones are 5 pin (suitable for plate and PCB mounting).

I am now shipping to the US since I had a couplel of orders and didn't want to cancel an order on someone, price per switch is about $0.30 (subject to exchange rate on day of purchase).

Shipping price to the US is about £5 untracked or £10 tracked, this postage is for 150 switches. More switches increase the shipping cost.

E: blasted typos!

That price of $0.30 per switch is just what the current exchange rate brings up for £0.24, which I have no control of. The benefits? More switch choices perhaps? For those inside the EU there's no custom fees with shipping between EU countries that I know of, however there likely would be if ordered from the US. EU shipping is about £4 untracked £8 tracked.

Since you're speaking of shipping, will it be tracked or not inside the EU ?

I'll offer the choice of tracked or untracked. Within the EU that would be about £4 untracked and £9 tracked for shipping up to 150 switches.

For those who participated in this group buy who haven't yet paid for shipping, could you please do so or get in touch with me. There are only 6 of you left to pay, you should've received at least 5 emails from me.
